Fall/Winter League Roundup: Campbell gets hot with five-game hitting streak

The Sox had players see action in two leagues past week, most notably Kristian Campbell (pictured) for Criollos de Caguas of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League. This week's roundup covers action from December 15-21. Stats for Boston's participating players can be found at the SoxProspects.com Fall & Winter Leagues page.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)
Criollos de Caguas, a team with three Sox players, had a nice week with a record of 3-2. Kristian Campbell was the highlight of the week, putting together his best stretch of the winter. He played in five games and hit safely in all five, going 6 for 18 (.333) with three doubles and a triple. He drove in four runs and scored four times. Campbell also drew five walks and only struck out three times. After last week where he was only used as a DH, Campbell played left field in three of his five games this past week. One of Campbell's doubles was crushed to center field and looked like it should have been a home run. He has a .404 OBP this winter in 12 games.

Red Sox offer 'all you can ask for': Myles Patton talks early impressions with organization

The Red Sox seemed to have a "type" when they were selecting players in the 2025 MLB Draft. Out of the 20 players selected by Boston back in June, 10 players were college pitchers from the Southeastern Conference.

Myles Patton was selected by the Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M. While he did only spend one year in College Station, he wears his SEC pride on his sleeve.

"There are a lot of SEC pitchers in the class, which we have plenty of stories about playing each other or about guys we have faced before," Patton told SoxProspects.com. "Those were easy things to bond over. It is really a good group of guys. There aren’t really any egos, and they are all very fun to be around."

Drafting players from the SEC wasn’t just a Red Sox strategy, as 107 players were drafted from the conference, including 13 in the first round. The circuit had 46 more total picks than the next closest league, the ACC. Every SEC school had at least one player selected and all 30 MLB teams drafted at least one SEC player.

"There are no breaks in the SEC," Patton added. "No matter who you play against every week, it will be a grind every time out. I think that mentality with everyone is elite competition gets you into the right mindset for pro ball. There will be failures and successes in the conference play, so I am going to keep that same mindset in pro ball that every team and player is the best team you will play the whole season. I think that lesson is valuable for us from the SEC and the play showed you that."

Patton threw 77 innings over 15 games started for Texas A&M this past season after transferring in from Long Beach State. Over his three-year college career between the two schools, the California native made a name for himself with his ability to throw strikes. For a southpaw who only topped out at 93 mph in college, he will need to continue that trend into the start of his professional career.

"The most important thing for me to be successful is to be an elite strike thrower and competing in the zone," Patton said. "I have no fear of contact or what could happen once the ball leaves my hand. I just want to keep hitters off balance with a mix of a lot of different shapes. I throw multiple breaking balls, a sinker, cutter, and a four-seam fastball. I also have a changeup that I like to throw to keep guys off balance."

"Throw nasty stuff in the zone" is a new organizational phrase you hear the pitchers all throughout the system throw around these days. While it might sound easier said than done, the Red Sox have done tremendous jobs with quite a few arms since Craig Breslow took over.

The recent track record is not only good for supplying quality arms to the big league club, but it is helping lure potential arms to the organization.

"The cornerstone of the Red Sox pitching philosophy of just throwing good stuff in the zone is the best way to do it. Simplifying things is always the best way to go in my opinion. There are a few things they judge us on and if we do those things well, you will have a lot of success. The simplicity of the philosophy combined with them having a good track record of improving velocity and usages is all you can ask for from a pitching development standpoint."

The 22-year-old has yet to debut in pro ball since being drafted last July. Like much of his draft class, Patton went straight to Fort Myers where he would spend the next three months getting acquainted with the lifestyle and everything that comes with being a professional baseball player.

"Myles has been phenomenal so far during his time with us," Red Sox Senior Director of Player Development Brian Abraham told SoxProspects. "He has shown consistency on and off the field, as well as when on the mound and in the weight room. He needs to continue focusing on getting stronger and adding velocity this offseason while also continuing to better understand his arsenal and how his pitches can best complement each other. Solidifying pitch shapes and throwing strikes are always areas of focus. He is attentive, a fast learner, and has done well in being able to handle and retain new information within the professional environment very well."

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Watson acquired from A's; Mata heading to Japan

There is plenty to discuss following last week's Winter Meetings in Orlando. Though the Red Sox fell short in their pursuit of adding a premium power bat (or two), they were active in other areas. In Wednesday's Rule 5 Draft, for instance, they lost Jedixson Paez to the White Sox and added Ryan Watson via a trade with the Athletics. They had opened a 40-man roster spot for Watson after trading Vaughn Grissom to the Angels for Isaiah Jackson on Tuesday. This week's roundup touches on some of that, as well as other news and action from December 8-14. Stats for Boston's participating players can be found at the SoxProspects.com Fall & Winter Leagues page.

Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM)
Before being traded from the Athletics to the Red Sox for Justin Riemer in the wake of last week's Rule 5 Draft, Ryan Watson had been pitching for Licey. The 28-year-old right-hander appeared in 13 games for the Tigres this winter, posting a 3.97 ERA with 11 strikeouts to six walks over 11 1/3 innings of relief. He was taken off the roster on November 23. Fellow righty Reidis Sena has not seen any action for Licey since November 30.

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Campbell debuts for Caguas; Garcia traded to Pittsburgh

Entering the week, the big story in the winter leagues was expected to be the debuts of Kristian Campbell (pictured) and Jhostynxon Garcia. Campbell debuted as expected, but the Red Sox traded Garcia along with Jesus Travieso to the Pirates in exchange for Johan Oviedo, Tyler Samaniego, and Adonys Guzman.  Garcia debuted for Navegantes del Magallanes in Venezuela on Friday, going 3 for 4 with a double, walk, run scored, outfield assist, and throwing error. This week's roundup covers all the news and action from December 1-December 7. Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)
Kristian Campbell got off to a hot start, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in his debut on Saturday. He was the team's designated hitter and hit second in the lineup. Caguas teammates Jovani Morán and Wyatt Olds helped secure the win. Morán set the side down in order in the seventh, and Olds allowed one run on two hits in the eighth. Olds was working for a second straight day after tossing a scoreless frame with a strikeout and two hits allowed on Friday. Morán had matching lines of one scoreless inning with a strikeout on Tuesday and Thursday. Campbell returned as the designated hitter on Sunday, going 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Red Sox acquire Gray; Campbell, Garcia to play in winter leagues

Before the hot stove began to slow for Thanksgiving, Red Sox fans got a jolt of excitement. The Red Sox made their first major addition of the winter, acquiring Sonny Gray in a trade with the Cardinals. Meanwhile, the winter league season rolled along, as Red Sox minor leaguers saw action in three separate winter leagues. This week's roundup covers all the news and action from November 24-November 30. Stats for participating Red Sox players can be found at the SoxProspects.com Fall & Winter Leagues page.

-----

Red Sox trade for Sonny Gray
After making several minor trades to finalize their 40-man roster in advance of the Rule 5 draft, the Red Sox made their first big splash of the offseason last Tuesday. The Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Sonny Gray and cash considerations (approximately $20 million) from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for right-hander Richard Fitts and left-hander Brandon Clarke. Gray is coming off a season where he pitched to a 4.28 ERA in 180 2/3 innings and led the major leagues with a 5.29 K/BB ratio. The Red Sox traded a pair of promising pitchers to St. Louis in return. Fitts had a 5.00 ERA in 45 innings for the Red Sox last season, making a couple of stints on the IL with a pectoral strain and right arm neuritis. Fitts was originally acquired from the Yankees in December 2023 and he projects as a back-end starter or multi-inning reliever. Clarke was one of the breakout players in the Red Sox system last season, rising from 18th in the season-opening rankings to 8th in the most recent rankings update. He struck out 60 batters and delivered a 4.03 ERA in 38 innings between Salem and Greenville last season. Clarke's calling card is his elite fastball velocity and wipeout slider but the lack of a consistent third pitch and control struggles have potential to push him to the bullpen in the long term. On the latest episode of the SoxProspects.com podcast, Chris and Ian reacted to the trade and discussed next steps for the Red Sox offseason.

Sandlin, Uberstine, Drohan added on busy 40-man deadline day

November 18th was the deadline for major league teams to add players to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from December's Rule 5 draft. With limited space available, the Red Sox made a number of moves in order to free up the space to add three pitchers: right-handers David Sandlin and Tyler Uberstine and lefty Shane Drohan. The team made four trades and designated Nathaniel Lowe and Josh Winckowski for assignment as part of the back-of-roster reshuffle.

Players added to 40-man roster:

A hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander, Sandlin (pictured, left) has long been considered the most likely person to be protected. Acquired in spring training 2024 in a deal for reliever John Schneider, Sandlin worked mostly as a starter before an August 2025 transition to the bullpen. He pitched well with Portland, posting a 3.61 ERA and striking out 86 batters in 82 1/3. Inconsistent command and a higher-effort delivery led to some bullpen risk, though with the hope that his fastball/slider mix would play up in the role. With an eye toward a potential late-season call-up, Sandlin was moved to the pen after his promotion to Worcester, but it proved a tough transition. In 23 2/3 innings he allowed 22 runs on 36 hits, walking 13 against 21 strikeouts. With three option years to play with, it's possible that he may continue to see work as a starter, but given the pitching depth in the high minors a bullpen role for 2026 is more likely.

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Perales, Tucker named AFL Fall Stars

It was another tough week for the Salt River Rafters leading up to Sunday's Fall Stars Game in Mesa. As the AFL season nears its end, other leagues are just starting to get underway for the winter. This week's roundup covers all the action from November 3-9, and stats for all participating players can be found at the SoxProspects.com Fall & Winter Leagues page.

Arizona Fall League
Luis Perales (pictured) was named a 2025 Fall Star but did not pitch in Sunday's Fall Stars Game after getting the start for Salt River against Surprise on Friday. The 22-year-old righty allowed two earned runs on two hits, one walk, and three strikeouts in one inning. He threw 23 pitches (16 strikes), generating four whiffs and reaching 100.4 mph with his fastball as his ERA rose to 10.32 through six outings (11 1/3 innings). Isaac Stebens relieved Perales in the second inning of that contest and retired all three batters he faced in his lone appearance of the week. Jojo Ingrassia, who was recently profiled by MLB.com, walked two and struck out one in a scoreless fourth inning on Thursday. Brandon Neely worked 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen on Wednesday, surrendering two earned runs on four hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Jay Allmer yielded one run in one-third of an inning on Tuesday.

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Perales and Neely struggle; Garcia homers

With the World Series now over, there is still baseball to follow. It was a tough week for the Salt River Rafters in Arizona as the team dropped all six games it played. The season is nearing the end as the Fall Stars Game is scheduled for Sunday, while the playoffs will start on November 13. Every team makes the playoffs in the AFL, so the six-game losing skid does not take them out of contention.

Arizona Fall League
In his lone start this week, Luis Perales hit 100.9 mph and generated 11 whiffs, but he was tagged for five runs in 2 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five as his ERA rose to 9.58. Brandon Neely faced a similar fate in his relief appearance, allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts. The other Boston pitching prospects had a solid week in the offensive-friendly environment, led by Jojo Ingrassia (pictured), who fired three innings of one-run ball with a walk and two strikeouts. Jay Allmer posted two scoreless frames with a strikeout and a walk, and Isaac Stebens surrendered just an unearned run in 2 1/3 innings.

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Perales continues to build up in the AFL; Neely makes impressive relief outing

It was an active week for Red Sox minor leaguers, as seven of the eight players that Boston sent to the Arizona Fall League appeared in games. The week was highlighted by third-ranked prospect Luis Perales' longest outing of the season, though he continues to be hit hard in the offensively-charged environment in the AFL. A pair of Red Sox prospects also got into game action in the Dominican Professional Baseball League.

-----

Arizona Fall League
Luis Perales' return to the mound after missing nearly the entire 2025 regular season continues to be one of the most interesting storylines among Red Sox prospects in the AFL. Perales started for the Salt River Rafters on Sunday and made his longest outing of the fall, going 2 2/3 innings and throwing 54 pitches. However, he struggled as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out two batters and walking one. This start raised Perales' ERA to 6.75 through eight innings in the AFL.

Fall/Winter League Roundup: Perales makes a pair of starts, Guerrero and Hernandez play in the Dominican Republic

With the Arizona Fall League in full swing, several Red Sox prospects have been seeing game action for the last week and a half. While it has been tough for most of the Boston representatives, Luis Perales continues to ramp up following his recovery from Tommy John surgery. In addition to the Fall League, a pair of Red Sox farmhands saw some action in the Dominican League. This week's roundup covers everything from October 13-19, with stats available at the SoxProspects.com Fall & Winter Leagues page.

Arizona Fall League
Without a doubt the most intriguing storyline among Boston's players is Luis Perales, who made his second and third starts of the Fall League this week. After kicking things off for the Salt River Rafters with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in the season opener, Perales followed it up with two innings in his second start. While he allowed a run on a walk in the second frame, he did not allow a hit and struck out four while throwing 21 of his 31 pitches for strikes. Perales also topped out at 100.7 MPH on his fastball. In his third start on Sunday afternoon, the right-hander struggled with command. He allowed three runs on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts tallied to his line, throwing just 29 of his 51 pitches for strikes while topping out at 100.5 MPH.

Second baseman Stanley Tucker has played in four games and is hitting .333/.412/.333. In the early going, Tucker leads Salt River in RBI with six and in stolen bases with three. Nelly Taylor is off to a cold start at the plate, as he went 1 for 8 with a single last week. He has, however, stolen two bases and scored a couple of runs.

2025 SoxProspects.com Awards: Player of the Year

Welcome to the fifth and final day of 2025 SoxProspects.com Awards week. Throughout the week, we at SoxProspects.com have recognized our All-Star position players and pitchers, Graduate of the Year, Homegrown Player of the Year, Ex-Prospect of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and Breakout Player of the Year. Today, we start by naming our Player of the Year.

Player of the Year

Jhostynxon Garcia (pictured) followed up a standout 2024 season by putting up more impressive power numbers and making his MLB debut in 2025. After being added to the Red Sox' 40-man roster for Rule 5 protection purposes last November, the 22-year-old outfielder took part in his first big league camp this spring and returned to Portland for the start of the new campaign. At that time, he was ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the system.

2025 SoxProspects.com Awards: Rookie, Breakout, and Comeback Players of the Year

We continue our SoxProspects.com Awards week with our Rookie, Breakout, and Comeback players of the year. Eligible Rookies will have fewer than 50 plate appearances or 15 innings pitched in their minor league careers. Comeback Player is awarded a player who has returned to prospect form from injury, poor performance, or a combination of the two. Breakout Player recognizes the player who made the greatest jump in prospect status during the season. The 2025 honorees include a member of the 2025 playoff roster, a pitcher who has overcome obstacles throughout his career, and a high-upside 18-year-old who showed advanced skills for his age.

-----

Rookie of the Year: Payton Tolle
A unanimous selection among the SoxProspects.com staff, Tolle blazed through the minor leagues and found himself on a big-league mound in August. A second-round pick in the 2024 draft out of Texas Christian, fans were a bit surprised to see Tolle get a slightly above-slot bonus at the 50th overall pick. He was ranked 87th in the draft by MLB Pipeline and 82nd by Baseball America. But the Red Sox clearly liked him more than that, and the left-hander debuted with Greenville on April 8. His first start was one to forget, as he gave up six runs while only recording five outs. It ended up being his worst start of the year, and he responded quickly by striking out 76 and allowing 14 runs over his next 48 innings.

He made his Double-A debut on June 28, but it only took him five weeks to completely overpower the Eastern League. His eye-popping numbers of a 1.67 ERA and 0.74 WHIP with Portland turned a lot of heads, and he was promoted to Worcester for what ended up being just a cup of coffee in Triple-A. His three starts with the WooSox saw him strike out 17 and walk only 2 over 15 innings while batters hit .193 against him. His major league debut was one of the highlights of the 2025 season for Red Sox fans as he struck out eight over 5 1/3 innings while leaving with a shutout until the bullpen let two inherited runners score. He ended the year in a bullpen role where he hit triple digits while connecting with fans due to his charisma on the mound.

2025 SoxProspects.com Awards: Graduate, Homegrown, and Ex-Prospect

We continue our SoxProspects.com Awards coverage with the 2025 Graduate, Homegrown Player, and Ex-Prospect of the year. The Graduate and Homegrown honorees both made significant contributions to the big-league club this year, while the Ex-Prospect Award recipient is someone who started the year in the middle of Boston's lineup.

-----

Graduate of the Year: Roman Anthony
Anthony cemented himself as the top prospect in baseball in his two-plus months to begin the year in Worcester. He hit .288/.423/.491 with almost as many walks as strikeouts as a 20-year-old (turned 21 on May 13) in the International League. He was the Red Sox Minor League Hitter of the Month and the SoxProspects.com Player of the Month in April. When last year's winner of this award, Wilyer Abreu, went down with an oblique injury on June 9, Anthony was called up to take his place in right field. His performance barely took a dip in going from Triple-A to the majors, as he hit .292/.396/.463 over 71 games before an oblique injury ended his regular season on September 2.

2025 SoxProspects.com All-Stars: Pitchers

Following up on Monday's post recognizing All-Star position players, we continue 2025 SoxProspects.com Awards week by shifting our focus to All-Star pitchers. This group includes two lefties who made their big league debuts this season, three trade acquisitions, and one undrafted free agent.

-----

Starting Pitcher: Payton Tolle
Tolle is a first-time SoxProspects.com All-Star after making quite the impression in his first full professional season. Selected with the 50th overall pick in the 2024 draft out of TCU, Tolle opened the 2025 campaign in Greenville but wasted very little time in moving up the organizational ladder. By late June, the 22-year-old left-hander was promoted to Portland. By early August, he was in Worcester. Between the three levels, he forged a 3.04 ERA with 133 strikeouts to 23 walks across 20 appearances (18 starts) spanning 91 2/3 total innings in which he held opponents to a .203 batting average. The 6-foot-6 southpaw was recognized as the Red Sox' Minor League Pitcher of the Year and made his MLB debut on Aug. 29, posting a 6.06 ERA with 19 strikeouts to eight walks in his first seven outings (three starts) and 16 1/3 innings for the big club. Equipped with an upper-90s fastball that can reach triple digits, Tolle is currently ranked as both the top pitching prospect and top overall prospect in the system.

2025 SoxProspects.com All-Stars: Position Players

Welcome to the 2025 SoxProspects.com Awards week! Over the next five days, we will present our annual awards on the news page, recognizing the standout performers from the season. Following the format we've used the last few years, the schedule will be as follows:

Monday: All-Star position players
Tuesday: All-Star pitchers
Wednesday: Graduate of the Year; Homegrown Player of the Year; Ex-Prospect of the Year
Thursday: Rookie of the Year; Breakout Player of the Year; Comeback Player of the Year
Friday: Player of the Year; Pitcher of the Year

We kick things off with the All-Star position players as selected by the SoxProspects.com staff. While we consider factors such as age advancement and opponent quality, these awards recognize the players' in-game performances rather than a commentary on any status as a prospect. The All-Star team is highlighted by four players who made their major league debuts in 2024, two on the position player side.

-----

After a knee injury that limited Garcia to just 14 games in 2024, he re-emerged with a strong 2025 campaign. Garcia started the year on the injured list as he continued to rehab, tuning up with a 12-game stint in the FCL before taking his spot in Greenville. He hit a solid .249/.327/.428 with the Drive, popping nine homers in 46 games. He caught in consecutive games for the first time on July 10 and 11, portending his healthy second half during which he slugged .500. Garcia is currently the 31st-ranked player in the system, highest at the catcher position.

Minor Notes: Playoffs set to begin; Nationals reportedly hire Toboni

It was the first full week without minor league games, but there were several big news stories for Boston fans to follow. The one getting the most attention is the playoff roster for the Wild Card Series against the Yankees. There was also a big shakeup in the baseball operations department with Paul Toboni leaving, while Payton Tolle and Jhostynxon Garcia (pictured) received notable accolades.

Playoff preview
Chris and Ian got together for a new episode of the Podcast to preview the MLB playoffs. They discuss how the Red Sox got to 89 wins, and who they suspect will be included on the playoff roster. Later in the episode, they do a season review of each affiliate while picking the top offensive player and pitcher for each team.

Nationals hire Toboni to lead baseball operations
Red Sox Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager Paul Toboni has reportedly been hired by the Washington Nationals to lead their baseball operations department. Toboni, 35, was a fast-riser in Boston's organization. His career started 10 years ago as a baseball operations intern with the Red Sox, and he held various leadership positions including the Director of Amateur Scouting and the Vice President of Amateur Scouting and Player Development.

Minor Notes: Worcester's season ends as Red Sox cling to wild card spot

The 2025 season has officially concluded for all Red Sox minor league affiliates as Worcester's season came to an end on Sunday. The big league team is currently one game ahead of Cleveland and Houston, who are tied for the last wild card spot, and the Red Sox' exciting pitching depth has been a major factor in their postseason push.

-----

Young left-handers fortify Red Sox pitching staff
A trio of left-handed pitchers in Connelly Early, Kyle Harrison (pictured), and Payton Tolle have been recalled to the major league club in recent weeks and have provided a boost to a battered Red Sox pitching staff. Over the last week, Harrison made his first start with the Red Sox and delivered six innings of one-run ball against the Rays on Saturday night. Harrison struck out five and walked two while throwing 70% of his pitches for strikes in a much-needed excellent performance. Early made two starts in the last week, throwing 5 1/3 innings while allowing a run and striking out seven against the A's on Tuesday. The third start of Early's major league career was less dominant on Sunday night, as he allowed three runs (two earned) in four innings. However, the eighth-ranked prospect in the system has been impressive through his first 14 1/3 innings with Boston, as he has pitched to a 1.88 ERA with 22 strikeouts. The Red Sox have placed Tolle in the bullpen as they continue to monitor his innings in his first professional season. He has allowed two runs while striking out five batters through four innings in his first two relief appearances.

Cup of Coffee: Worcester wins a slugfest in the season finale

9/22 Cup of Coffee: In the final game of the minor league season for Boston's affiliates, the WooSox held on in a high-scoring affair. All eyes will turn to the major league squad as they battle for a playoff spot. The next game action from the prospects will come when the Arizona Fall League kicks off on October 6.

-----

A 15-hit offensive attack helped overcome a shaky bullpen. Nathan Hickey kicked off the scoring with a solo home run in the first, and he added a bases-loaded walk in the fourth. Max Ferguson (pictured) went 3 for 5 with a double and two steals, while Mikey Romero went 2 for 4 with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. Phillip Sikes went 3 for 4 with a walk, and Karson Simas went 2 for 3 with a walk as nine players collected at least one hit.

Cup of Coffee: Worcester takes down Rochester to clinch winning season

9/21 Cup of Coffee:
As the Minor League season draws to a close, Worcester jumped ahead early and took another lead late to clinch the fourth-straight winning season under manager Chad Tracy in the penultimate game of the year.

-----

Worcester got a strong start from Jose De Leon, who allowed a single run in the fifth as he pitched 4 1/3 innings with three hits and four walks while tying a season-high with eight strikeouts. Coincidentally, De Leon also struck out eight hitters against Rochester back on June 8. While De Leon was dealing early, the WooSox plated three runs in the third. After Max Ferguson singled and Seby Zavala walked, Mikey Romero doubled to right field to plate Ferguson. The very next hitter, Kristian Campbell, who started in center field, doubled home Zavala and Romero.

Leading 3-1 entering the seventh, Luis Perales struggled for the first time since returning from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander recorded a single out on a strikeout but walked a pair of batters. Perales only faced three hitters and threw just eight of his 18 pitches for strikes. Jacob Webb followed on the mound and was charged with a blown save as he allowed two runs that were charged to Perales.

With the score even in the bottom half of the seventh, Ferguson broke the tie with his second home run in Worcester. Webb came out for the eighth and retired the side while working around a leadoff single, and Wyatt Olds closed the game out with a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.

-----

Player of the Day: Max Ferguson had his fingerprints all over the WooSox's victory on Saturday. After scoring the first run of the game following a leadoff walk in the third, the former fifth-round pick slugged his second home run since being promoted to Worcester and his ninth across two levels. Since being brought up to the WooSox, Ferguson is slashing .250/.323/.429 in 18 games. He is currently unranked in the SoxProspects' Top 60 rankings.

Cup of Coffee: Hickey highlights night of rallies, but WooSox fall in extras

9/20 Cup of Coffee:
On the final Friday evening of the minor league season, Worcester rallied from three deficits but could not overcome a fourth. Following a wild three-run comeback in the bottom of the ninth, the WooSox fell in 10 at Polar Park.

-----

Worcester came back from being down 2-0 in the fourth, 4-2 in the sixth, and 7-4 in the ninth, but a wild pitch and sacrifice fly scored the automatic runner in the 10th. Washington's Josiah Gray was a stiff test for the WooSox in his rehab start, going 2 2/3 hitless frames, but he was matched by Worcester starter Isaac Coffey. Coffey did not allow a hit for the first 3 2/3 innings, but Rochester's first knock was a two-run homer. That was the only hit the right-hander allowed in four innings, as he struck out two and walked three. Chadwick Tromp ripped a two-run double in the bottom half of the fourth to knot the game at two apiece. Tromp was 2 for 5 on the evening. Bryan Mata went two innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits. This could be Mata's final outing with the Red Sox organization. He will be a minor league free agent in November after ten years in the system. Karson Simas delivered another two-run, game-tying double, evening things at 4-4 in the sixth.

Cup of Coffee: Simas drives in Worcester's lone run; Olds, Webb combine for 4 strikeouts

9/19 Cup of Coffee:
Despite tallying 10 hits as a team, Worcester managed to score just one run in a blowout loss at the hands of Rochester on Thursday. The defeat dropped the WooSox to 74-72 on the season with three games remaining.

-----

Jack Anderson went 4 2/3 innings and took the loss in his final start of the season for Worcester, allowing four earned runs on four hits (including two home runs), three walks, and four strikeouts. He threw 77 pitches (50 strikes) and generated 11 whiffs. Wyatt Olds and Jacob Webb combined for four strikeouts in 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief. David Sandlin and Noah Song, on the other hand, surrendered a total of six runs over the course of the seventh and eighth innings.

Cup of Coffee: Uberstine deals, Perales dominates in Triple-A debut

9/18 Cup of Coffee
: Worcester picked up their second consecutive win to improve to 74-71 on the season. With only four games remaining, that means the WooSox need just one more win to clinch a winning season for 2025.

-----

Tyler Uberstine (pictured) set the tone for Worcester on the mound, firing five shutout innings. The 26-year old righty gave up just three hits to go along with six strikeouts and one walk. Luis Perales followed Uberstine and was tremendous in his WooSox debut. He struck out the side in order on 11 pitches, 10 of which were strikes. He also induced five swinging strikes on those 11 pitches. He did not throw a single fastball in the outing. Luis Guerrero and Jovani Moran each tossed a scoreless inning before Nick Burdi nailed down his fifth save. Burdi allowed one run, but struck out a pair.

Cup of Coffee: Romero doubles twice, Drohan strikes out six in WooSox win

9/17 Cup of Coffee:
After Portland's season concluded on Sunday, the WooSox are the now the only active Red Sox affiliate. Worcester survived a ninth-inning scare to win the opening game of their final series of the season.

-----

The WooSox jumped out to an early lead as Abraham Toro launched a three-run homer in the first inning. Worcester grabbed another run in the second as Mikey Romero (pictured) drove in Tyler McDonough with a double. Romero added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and was 2 for 3 overall in the game. Nathan Hickey put together a strong game for the WooSox, going 2 for 4 and ripping an RBI double in the eighth inning.

Minor Notes: Portland wraps while Worcester enters final week, Perales returns from injury

Only one more week left to play in the 2025 season for Worcester, while Portland ended its season on Sunday. There was a return to the field for a top prospect, and several players will represent the organization at the Arizona Fall League in a month.

-----

Perales returns from Tommy John Surgery
After being sidelined since last June, Luis Perales made his return to the mound on Saturday following his recovery from right elbow surgery. The news was not anticipated and came as a bit of a surprise. In recent weeks, Perales had been seen throwing live batting practice at Boston's spring training complex in Florida and putting up eye-popping metrics at that.

Perales started and pitched the first inning in Portland's matchup with Binghamton on Saturday. While only throwing eight of his 16 pitches for strikes, the 22-year-old managed to toss a scoreless frame with just a walk on his line. Perales will see more regular-season action this week with Worcester before heading to the Arizona Fall League.

Cup of Coffee: Password homers; Rogers pitches well in Portland's finale

9/15 Cup of Coffee: Portland's season came to an end with another shutout loss to Binghamton. Dalton Rogers (pictured) ended the season strong, while Jhostynxon Garcia went deep for the WooSox.

-----

José De León carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the wheels came off as he dropped to 0-9. He walked the first three batters of the sixth inning, and all three came around to score. He ultimately allowed four runs despite allowing just one hit. Luis Guerrero did not have a good audition for a spot in the major league bullpen as he surrendered three runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. A two-run home run off the bat of Jhostynxon Garcia was all the offense Worcester could muster. Singles from Kristian CampbellAbraham Toro, and Chadwick Tromp accounted for the only other hits.

The WooSox head back home for their last series of the season against Rochester.

Cup of Coffee: Perales returns to the mound, Rosier drives in four

9/14 Cup of Coffee: While there were just a pair of games in the Boston affiliates as the Minor League season winds down, there were some highlights on Saturday. After making a recovery from Tommy John surgery, Luis Perales made his long-awaited return to the mound in Portland. Corey Rosier drove in four runs in Worcester's win over Syracuse.

-----

Worcester struck first with a four-run first thanks to an RBI single by Nathan Hickey and a single by Corey Rosier two batters later that cleared the bases after a fielding error. Two innings later, it was Rosier again who supplied the runs. This time, the left fielder doubled to plate Jhostynxon Garcia and Tyler McDonough to make it 6-0. Rosier led the way for Worcester with three hits and four runs driven in as eight of the nine hitters in the lineup reached base at least once.

Those runs would be all the support the WooSox pitching staff would need. Isaac Coffey started and pitched the first four frames. His scoreless outing featured three hits, three walks and three strikeouts in the no-decision. Noah Song followed and allowed a pair of runs across the fifth and sixth. While he allowed three hits, he struck out four and did not allow a walk. Isaiah Campbell eventually picked up the win in relief after a scoreless seventh and eighth with a pair of walks and a strikeout. Hobie Harris pitched the ninth, walking a pair and giving up two runs on a two-run home run.

-----

Despite out-hitting Binghamton 6-to-3, Portland failed to get a hit in 11 tries with runners in scoring position to give John Holobetz a tough loss on his line. Amid the loss, the top storyline was the return of Luis Perales. Pitching in a game for the first time since last June, the right-hander fired a scoreless first with no hits and a walk. Perales featured a fastball which registered between 97-100 mph along with a cutter, slider, and splitter over 16 pitches, eight of which finding the strike zone.

Holobetz followed Perales and allowed a single run over six frames on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Since being promoted to Portland, the 23-year-old has pitched to a 2.39 ERA over 37 2/3 innings. Offensively, Portland got multi-hit outings from Franklin Arias and Ronald Rosario, with Caden Rose and Justin Riemer recording the other two knocks.

-----

Player of the Day: Corey Rosier continued his strong finish to the season with a 3-for-4 evening, which featured a double and four runs driven in. Through Saturday's game, Roser is slashing .357/.419/.429 across 30 plate appearances in September. Rosier is currently unranked in the SoxProspects' Top 60.

Cup of Coffee: Senga stymies WooSox

9/13 Cup of Coffee:
It was a Central New York sweep of the Sox affiliates on Friday night. Portland dropped a walk-off in Binghamton despite a 10-hit effort. About 60 miles up I-81, Worcester was shut down by a Syracuse three-hitter.

-----

Worcester managed just three hits off veteran hurler Kodai Senga and a pair of relievers, none after the fourth inning. The WooSox actually held an early lead when a Max Ferguson double plated Jhostynxon Garcia in the second. Abraham Toro led off the fourth with a single but was quickly erased on a double play, and the WooSox did not have another baserunner until a ninth-inning Chadwick Tromp walk. Jack Anderson turned in a solid start, allowing two runs on four hits in five innings, striking out seven while walking only one. Wyatt Olds surrendered a run in two innings before Nick Burdi fired a scoreless eighth.

Cup of Coffee: Romero, Toro each homer for Worcester; Arias also goes deep

9/12 Cup of Coffee:
While the big club was off, Boston's affiliates went 2-0 on Thursday. Behind a strong start from Tyler Uberstine and multi-homer performances from Mikey Romero (pictured) and Abraham Toro, Worcester routed Syracuse. Speaking of long balls, Franklin Arias came through with a clutch go-ahead home run in Portland's win over Binghamton.

-----

Tyler Uberstine picked up the win in his start for Worcester after scattering two hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch over five scoreless innings in which he struck out six. He threw 82 pitches (52 strikes) and generated 12 whiffs. Luis Guerrero took over for Uberstine and put up another zero in the sixth, while David Sandlin allowed one run in his two innings of relief. Jacob Webb then closed things out by fanning a pair in a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
