Cup of Coffee: Simas drives in Worcester's lone run; Olds, Webb combine for 4 strikeouts


9/19 Cup of Coffee:
Despite tallying 10 hits as a team, Worcester managed to score just one run in a blowout loss at the hands of Rochester on Thursday. The defeat dropped the WooSox to 74-72 on the season with three games remaining.

Jack Anderson went 4 2/3 innings and took the loss in his final start of the season for Worcester, allowing four earned runs on four hits (including two home runs), three walks, and four strikeouts. He threw 77 pitches (50 strikes) and generated 11 whiffs. Wyatt Olds and Jacob Webb combined for four strikeouts in 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief. David Sandlin and Noah Song, on the other hand, surrendered a total of six runs over the course of the seventh and eighth innings. 

At the plate, Karson Simas (pictured) drove in his side's lone run by going 2 for 3 with a second-inning RBI single that scored Tyler McDonough. Nathan Hickey, Corey Rosier, and Phillip Sikes each went 2 for 4, with Hickey roping a leadoff double in the sixth inning for his 100th hit of the season. Mikey Romero also doubled for his only hit of the evening.

Player of the Day: Karson Simas gets the nod for plating Worcester's only run on Thursday night. In 17 Triple-A games this season, the right-handed hitting 24-year-old is batting .302/.383/.396 with two doubles, one home run, six RBIs, seven runs scored, two stolen bases, seven walks, and 19 strikeouts over 60 plate appearances. He is not currently ranked among the organization's top 60 prospects.
