Fall/Winter League Roundup: Campbell debuts for Caguas; Garcia traded to Pittsburgh
Entering the week, the big story in the winter leagues was expected to be the debuts of Kristian Campbell (pictured) and Jhostynxon Garcia. Campbell debuted as expected, but the Red Sox traded Garcia along with Jesus Travieso to the Pirates in exchange for Johan Oviedo, Tyler Samaniego, and Adonys Guzman. Garcia debuted for Navegantes del Magallanes in Venezuela on Friday, going 3 for 4 with a double, walk, run scored, outfield assist, and throwing error. This week's roundup covers all the news and action from December 1-December 7. Stats for participating Red Sox players can be found at the SoxProspects.com Fall & Winter Leagues page.

Kristian Campbell got off to a hot start, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in his debut on Saturday. He was the team's designated hitter and hit second in the lineup. Caguas teammates Jovani Morán and Wyatt Olds helped secure the win. Morán set the side down in order in the seventh, and Olds allowed one run on two hits in the eighth. Olds was working for a second straight day after tossing a scoreless frame with a strikeout and two hits allowed on Friday. Morán had matching lines of one scoreless inning with a strikeout on Tuesday and Thursday. Campbell returned as the designated hitter on Sunday, going 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.
The only Red Sox pitching prospect active in the league who is not on Caguas is Osvaldo Berrios. Pitching for Carolina, Berrios surrendered a two-run home run while recording one out on Tuesday, but rebounded to record a hold on Friday with a shutout frame. He earned the win on Sunday by keeping Ponce off the board for the final two innings in a comeback win. Juan Montero's game action remained limited for Ponce. He appeared as a pinch runner on Tuesday and then went 1 for 2 with a run scored as the designated hitter on Sunday.
