Cup of Coffee: Romero's slam powers Portland, Salem staff puts together a gem

6/22 Cup of Coffee: A stellar pitching performance by the Salem staff helped support an offense that scored just three runs and a big evening for Mikey Romero (pictured) highlighted the night across the Boston affiliates on Saturday with a grand slam. In Worcester, Kristian Campbell appeared in his first game since being sent down on Friday, and the DSL squads matched up against one another. Meanwhile, Greenville and the FCL squad were unable to come away with victories.

-----

Buffalo Bison (TOR) 10, Worcester Red Sox 6
The Worcester bullpen gave up six runs over the final three innings and the offense couldn't maintain its middle-innings production, falling to Buffalo. Worcester fell behind 2-0 after one inning and 4-1 after three before a four-run fourth, along with another tally in the fifth, gave Worcester a 6-4 lead. As part of the offense in the fourth inning, Vaughn Grissom and Trayce Thompson hit back-to-back home runs before Corey Rosier added a solo shot later in the frame. Following his demotion from Boston, Kristian Campbell went 0 for 3 with a walk in his first game in Worcester.

Cooper Criswell started for the WooSox and allowed four runs on four hits, one of which was a home run, walking two and striking out four in five innings. Hobie Harris took the loss in relief as he allowed three runs over the following two innings while allowing a home run of his own.

Cup of Coffee: Romero homers in return; Fajardo debuts for Salem

6/21 Cup of Coffee:
It was a busy day down on the farm, with all seven affiliates in action and nary a single rainout in the offing. Mikey Romero (pictured) returned from the injured list to power a Portland victory. Tyler Uberstine and Eduardo Rivera turned in quality starts for Worcester and Greenville in wins. Yhoiker Fajardo made his Salem debut but took the loss as the offense was stymied. The DSL teams completed a sweep, while the FCL Sox were knocked off by their cross-town rival.

-----

The WooSox fell into an early 1-0 hole but scored seven unanswered runs. Blaze Jordan continued to swing a hot bat, as the first baseman was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBI. He is 8 for 16 through the first four games of the series. Jhostynxon Garcia made an impact on both sides of the ball, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored at the plate and cutting down the potential tying run at the plate with an outfield assist on a would-be sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The offensive support was more than enough for Tyler Uberstine, who allowed one run on six hits in six innings. The right-hander walked and struck out three apiece. Somewhat incredibly, it was Uberstine's first winning decision since July 2022. Wyatt Olds, Alex Hoppe, and Jose Adames each went a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to preserve the win.

With a few more days gone by, Ian and Chris had a few more thoughts on the Rafael Devers trade fallout. With that out of their systems, there was plenty of other discussion on Kristian Campbell being optioned back to Worcester, some other minor league news, and another big crop of emails.

Cup of Coffee: Jordan stays hot in Worcester; Liendo finishes homer shy of cycle

6/20 Cup of Coffee:
While the big club was off, all seven of Boston's affiliates were in action on Thursday. Blaze Jordan (pictured) and Corey Rosier were among the offensive standouts in Worcester's bounce-back win over Buffalo. Ahbram Liendo nearly hit for the cycle while James Tibbs III recorded his first multi-hit game at the Double-A level in Portland's loss to Akron. Blake Aita did not get much run support as Greenville fell to Greensboro. Yoeilin Cespedes and Fraymi De Leon combined for four hits in Salem's loss to Fredericksburg. Anderson Fermin enjoyed a productive day at the plate in the FCL, while both DSL squads came away with wins.

-----

Robert Stock emerged victorious in his 10th start (14th overall appearance) of the season for Worcester. The journeyman right-hander allowed four earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch over six innings. He finished with 77 pitches (49 strikes) and induced 10 swings and misses. Wyatt Mills, the rehabbing Chris Murphy, and Austin Adams then combined for three perfect frames of relief to end it.

Cup of Coffee: Houck rehabs for Worcester; Jordan goes deep

6/19 Cup of Coffee
: Tanner Houck is back on the mound, as he made a rehab start for Worcester. Blaze Jordan continued his great season with a home run. Hayden Mullins and John Holobetz pitched very well for Portland and Greenville, respectively. Salem swept a doubleheader, with Shea Sprague (pictured) dominating on the mound in the second game.

-----

Tanner Houck opened up this game, making his first rehab start since being placed on the IL on May 14. He pitched the first inning, then walked the first batter of the second inning before being pulled. The righty allowed one run on two hits, throwing 32 pitches. He produced one whiff on a sweeper, and as Ian Cundall notes, his fastball sat 94-96 mph while mixing in a new cutter. Isaac Coffey struggled in relief, allowing four earned runs and getting just two outs. Jose De Leon wasn't much better, surrendering six earned runs in 3 1/3 frames. Hobie Harris and Jose Adames pitched well, each tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and no walks. It was a quiet night for the Worcester offense with just one hit, no runs, and eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings against a rehabbing Max ScherzerBlaze Jordan provided the only run, belting a solo home run, his second with the WooSox. Vaughn Grissom also roped his 14th double of the year.

Cup of Coffee: Tibbs debuts for Sea Dogs; Soto homers twice in DSL

6/18 Cup of Coffee:
Excellent pitching performances in the upper minors were a highlight of the night for the Red Sox affiliates. Richard Fitts threw five scoreless innings in a WooSox win and Connelly Early (pictured) struck out eight batters in six strong innings in a hard luck loss for Portland. James Tibbs III was 0 for 4 in his Sea Dogs debut. Franklin Arias and Nazzan Zanetello had great games but the Drive lost to Greensboro. Salem's series opener against Fredericksburg was rained out. Jorge Rodriguez delivered a strong performance in a win in an FCL Red Sox win. Dorian Soto ripped the first two home runs of his professional career in the DSL.

-----

After struggling in his first two starts since being optioned to Worcester, Richard Fitts was lights out on Tuesday night. Fitts threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits and hitting two batters while striking out three. Chris Murphy followed him and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout in an inning of relief. Bryan Mata allowed two runs on three hits in an inning and Alex Hoppe allowed one run in 2/3 of an inning. Isaiah Campbell earned his sixth save of the season with a shutout 1 1/3 innings.

Minor Notes: Devers blockbuster brings prospects to Boston; Murphy’s rehab rolls on

A big week across the Boston organization got turned upside down on Sunday afternoon as Rafael Devers was traded to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster deal. On the field, Roman Anthony made his highly anticipated big league debut. Outside of Anthony's debut, there was plenty of moving and shaking within the affiliates on the roster moves front.

Devers traded to Giants
In an earth-shattering move on Sunday afternoon, Rafael Devers was traded to the San Francisco Giants. In return, the Red Sox acquired pitchers Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, outfielder James Tibbs, and pitcher Jose Bello. According to reports, Harrison will join the WooSox, and Tibbs will report to Portland following the deal. Hicks is currently on the 15-day IL and has a 6.47 ERA this season. Harrison has posted a 4.56 ERA in 23 2/3 innings this season. Tibbs had spent all of this season in High-A after being drafted 13th overall in last year's draft and has posted an .857 OPS. Cup of Coffee: Travieso and Co. deal in FCL: Both DSL games interrupted by lightning

6/17 Cup of Coffee:
The Florida Complex League Red Sox were the only rookie-level affiliate to get a full game in on Monday. Both Dominican Summer League squads saw their games suspended in the early stages due to lightning.

-----

Jesus Travieso (pictured) put together his longest start of the season to date for the FCL Red Sox. The 18-year-old right-hander allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out five over a career-high five innings of work. Fellow righties Gilbel Galvan, who was credited with the winning decision, and Juan Henriquez combined for four additional scoreless frames out of the bullpen to preserve the shutout. Yan Cruz led the way offensively by going 2 for 3 with one RBI and one walk. Edwin Brito also drove in a run as part of a 1-for-4 day. Gerardo Rodriguez scored two runs, while Efren Teran and Ilan Fernandez each scored once.

Trade Analysis: Initial scouting reports for James Tibbs and Jose Bello

Early Sunday evening, word started to go around that the Red Sox had dealt designated hitter Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in return for two major league pitchers, Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison, and two prospects, outfielder James Tibbs and right-hander Jose Bello. Here are our initial scouting reports for Tibbs and Bello. Please note, these will be updated with a more complete scouting report once we have seen the players in action.

James Tibbs, OF, High-A Northwest League
Age: 22
Started: 2024 1st round, 13th overall
Projected initial rank: 6-8
Scouting Report
Physical Description: Medium frame. Well developed lower half. Minimal remaining projection.

Hit: Starts square and vertical with his hands high. Utilizes a leg kick timing device. Quick hands and solid bat speed. Patient approach and makes good swing decisions. Low chase rate and makes consistent contact in the zone. Sees a lot of pitches and will take a walk. Runs an above-average hard-hit rate. Better against fastballs than secondary offerings, but has shown the ability to make adjustments against off-speed and spin already. Whiff rates tick up against velocity. Groundball rate has been higher in pro ball than it was as an amateur and bears watching as he moves into the high minors. Has hit lefties well in a small sample in the low minors, but struggled at times against them as an amateur.

Power: Above-average raw power. Power plays best on pitches middle-in to the pull side, Produces solid exit velocities. Grooved swing with a slight uppercut lends itself to driving the ball with back spin.

Run: Below-average speed. Not a major part of his game.

Field: Corner outfield-only profile. Likely best suited for left field given the complexities of playing right field  at Fenway Park. Has only played right field in pro ball, but did play left and first base in college.

Arm: Average arm strength. Solid enough for corner outfield.

Cup of Coffee: Ehrlicher unhittable in Salem loss

6/16 Cup of Coffee:
Between the sweep of the Yankees and the team trading a homegrown superstar for the second time in five years, one might have fallen behind on the in-game action of Boston's minor league affiliates. Loyal reader, the SoxProspects.com Cup of Coffee is here to catch you up. The lone victory of the day came from the Greenville Drive, as a Nelly Taylor homer highlighted a march of 20 baserunners. Austin Ehrlicher (pictured) went five no-hit innings for Salem, but the Sox dropped the come-from-behind loss. Worcester had a front-row seat for one of baseball's top pitching prospects, who showed off why he is so well regarded, while Portland squandered a solid Dalton Rogers start.

-----

The WooSox were stymied by Phillies phenom Andrew Painter. A second-inning single by Nathan Hickey notched the only hit in five innings against the starter. A home run from Seby Zavala in the eighth spoiled the shutout bid, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Blaze Jordan was held hitless but did convert an unassisted double play in the third inning, helping to preserve a scoreless tie. Starter Cooper Criswell went four scoreless innings, surrendering three hits, walking three, and striking out two. Zach Penrod took the loss, allowing two runs in the fifth. Penrod was designated for assignment later in the day, necessitated by the 40-man roster additions from That Trade.

Cup of Coffee: Jordan comes through in Worcester, Wehunt dazzles in Portland

6/15 Cup of Coffee: There were plenty of fireworks across the Boston affiliates on Saturday. Thanks to Blaze Jordan's (pictured) two-run double in extra innings, Worcester was able to sneak out a win. In
Portland, Blake Wehunt struck out a career-high 13 batters, and it was a tough showing on the pitching side across the Complex Leagues, combining to allow 31 runs across its three contests.

-----

Worcester Red Sox 5, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (PHI) 3 (10 Innings)
Despite giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at three, Worcester got the eventual game-winning two-run double by Blaze Jordan to help snap a brief two-game skid. The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead through the first four innings and it stayed that way until the eighth inning. Following six scoreless innings from Tyler Uberstine, Chris Murphy succeeded him and struggled. Still in the midst of working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Murphy allowed three runs, two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in his 1 2/3 innings to let the lead slip away. The 3-3 score took the game into extra innings where Jordan came through with his go-ahead hit.

Despite earning a no decision, Uberstine has impressed since earning a promotion to Worcester. in 27 innings since being brought up to Triple-A, the Red Sox's 19th round pick in 2021 has pitched to the tune of a 2.67 ERA with 29 strikeouts.

-----

Portland Sea Dogs 7, Somerset Patriots (NYY) 2
Coming out of the bullpen in bulk relief after Caleb Bolden pitched a scoreless first inning, Blake Wehunt tossed seven dominant innings while striking out a career-high 13 batters to earn his second win of the season. The 6-foot-7 hurler threw 63 of his 94 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 3.81. Following Wehunt's stellar outing, Gabriel Jackson pitched the bottom of the ninth and allowed a run on two hits. The Sea Dog offense gave Wehunt plenty of run support with an 11-hit outburst, led by three-hit outings from Marvin Alcantara and Drew Ehrhard while Tyler Miller contributed with a pair of doubles in the victory.

-----

Hudson Valley Renegades (NYY) 1, Greenville Drive 0
Only a single run in the bottom of the first inning allowed by Jovani Moran proved to be the difference as the Drive offense could only muster five singles across the game while going hitless with runners in scoring position. After Moran walked two, hit two and gave up a hit along with the run, Eduardo Rivera pitched in bulk out of the bullpen and dazzled. The left-hander pitched 6 2/3 innings while allowing three baserunners and struck out seven to lower his ERA to 1.64 across 38 1/3 innings. While the Greenville hitters were mostly quiet, Johanfran Garcia and Brooks Brannon each slapped a pair of singles in the defeat. The defeat was Greenville's second straight 1-0 loss.

-----

Delmarva Shorebirds (BAL) 9, Salem Red Sox 6
Salem got roughed up early in the game and could not bounce back on its way to its second straight defeat. Ben Hansen was charged with the loss, as in just two innings he allowed four runs on eight hits along with three walks and two strikeouts. Salem was able to cut its deficit to 5-3 in the top of the fifth after a balk and an RBI single by Starlyn Nunez before Adam Bates, who relieved Hansen, allowed three runs in the sixth to put the game away for good.

-----

FCL Twins 13, FCL Red Sox 5
Command was at a premium for the Red Sox pitching staff as they allowed 12 hits and 13 walks to go along with two hit batters on its way to a blowout loss on Saturday. After putting together four starts in a row in which he allowed a total of four runs, Yoelvin Chirino struggled in the loss with four hits and two walks allowed along with five earned runs on his way to being charged with the loss. The Red Sox offense saw seven of its hitters record at least one knock, with Anderson Fermin leading the way with a 2-for-3 statline along with an RBI and a walk. Outside of Fermin, Edwin Brito, Liosward Marin, Jorge Rodriguez, and Jhoan Peguero also recorded RBIs in the loss.

-----

DSL Reds 6, DSL Red Sox Red 4
A back-and-forth game ended just short of a Red Sox comeback victory. The scoring started with a Dorian Soto run-scoring triple in the bottom of the first as part of a 2-for-5 outing. After the score was knotted in the third inning, Jhorman Bravo helped the Red Sox retake the lead on an RBI walk in the bottom of the fifth. The lead held until the late innings, where the pitching staff allowed five runs across the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to enter the bottom of the ninth trailing 6-2. The deficit was trimmed to two after an RBI triple by Givian Sirvania followed by a single by Krishan Ulacio to score Sirvania, but could not add on any more to lose. Felix Belisario was charged with a blown save and the loss after allowing two runs across 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.

-----

DSL Dodgers Mega 12, DSL Red Sox Blue 11
Similar to the other DSL contest, the Red Sox trailed late, and its comeback attempt fell short in an action-packed game. The back-and-forth game started with the Red Sox trailing 10-3 after three innings. Team Blue scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, but allowed a pair of runs before sparking a comeback in the eighth and ninth that fell a run shy of tying it. Offensively, Christopher Alvarado reached base four times with a pair of walks and pair of hits along with three runs batted in and a stolen base. Stiven De La Cruz went a perfect 4-for-4 and scored three times as part of the attack. The team also drew 11 walks and stole four bases.

Pitching was a struggle for the entire Red Sox staff as they walked 13 batters and hit three more. Jainer Almanza started for the Red Sox and took the loss as he allowed four runs on two hits and four walks.

-----

Player of the Day: Since earning a promotion to Worcester, Blaze Jordan has done nothing but hit. The first baseman went 2 for 4 with a crucial two-run double in the tenth inning to help the WooSox get past Lehigh Valley. In 11 games in Triple-A. Jordan has a .326/.354/.565 slash line with a home run and seven runs driven in. He is currently ranked the 23rd prospect in Boston's system.

Cup of Coffee: Aita dominates in Greenville debut

6/14 Cup of Coffee:
While the major league squad had a thrilling extra-innings win, it was tough going down on the farm. All seven teams were in action, and the only victory came from the DSL Red team at the expense of the DSL Blue squad. The four full-season affiliates combined for just 14 hits. The meager offensive output squandered some excellent pitching, particularly from Blake Aita (pictured), who was dominant in a loss in his Greenville debut. Yhoiker Fajardo also continued his outstanding work in the FCL. He was in line for a win until a crushing walk-off.

-----

Despite only picking up four hits on the day, the WooSox held on tough before getting dispatched by first-place Lehigh Valley in extra innings. Tyler McDonough had half of his team's hits and both of their RBI, going 2 for 4 on the night. A Blaze Jordan double was the only extra-base knock for the WooSox. Starter Jose De Leon went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one, while striking out six. Nick Burdi threw a scoreless sixth as he began his rehab assignment. Alex Hoppe gave up one hit in two scoreless innings of relief, striking out one. Isaiah Campbell pitched a scoreless ninth and was in line for the win after Worcester took a 3-2 lead in the tenth, but Lehigh scored a pair in the bottom of the frame for the walk-off victory.

6/13 Cup of Coffee:
Boston's affiliates went 4-3 on Thursday. Jhostynxon Garcia and Vaughn Grissom both homered as Worcester's nine-game winning streak came to an end. Karson Simas (pictured) also went deep while Hayden Mullins and Jack Anderson combined for nine innings of one-run ball in Portland's win. At the lower levels, John Holobetz and Shea Sprague picked up wins for Greenville and Salem, respectively. In the Dominican Summer League, Josue Brito went deep twice for the second time in six games.

-----

Worcester's nine-game winning streak was snapped on Thursday night. Starter Richard Fitts took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts over four innings. Robert Stock tossed a scoreless fifth inning before Brendan Cellucci, Austin Adams, and Jose Adames combined to surrender eight additional runs out of the bullpen. Offensively, all three of Worcester's runs came by way of the long ball. In addition to drawing two walks, Jhostynxon Garcia went 1 for 2 with a two-run blast for his sixth homer at the Triple-A level. Vaughn Grissom went 1 for 4 with a ninth-inning solo shot for his fifth big fly of the season. Corey Rosier doubled as part of a two-hit showing, while Nick Sogard singled, scored one run, and drew one walk out of the leadoff spot.

Cup of Coffee: Tolle strikes out eight in Greenville loss

6/11 Cup of Coffee:
With the Big Three all in Boston, Worcester's new top hitting prospects Jhostynxton Garcia and Blaze Jordan headlined a blowout win for the WooSox. David Sandlin struggled in a Sea Dogs loss while Payton Tolle (pictured) struck out eight in five solid innings but the Drive were unable to pull out the victory. The Salem bullpen was unable to hold onto the lead in a heartbreaking loss. In the Florida Complex League, the Red Sox rode a huge eight-run rally to the win. Dorian Soto and Sadbiel Delzine played well in a pair of wins in the Dominican Summer League.

-----

The WooSox lineup put together an impressive performance against IronPigs starter Andrew Painter, who ranks as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Worcester scored six runs against the right-hander, including a four-run third inning highlighted by a two-run homer by Nate Eaton and an RBI double off the bat of Nathan Hickey. Tyler McDonough added a solo home run in the fourth. Jhostynxton Garcia was 1 for 3 with two walks and two runs scored, pushing his slash line to .352/.395/.606 in 17 games since being promoted to Triple-A. Minor Notes: Number one prospect Roman Anthony called up, makes MLB debut

It was one of the more exciting days for the Red Sox organization in recent years, as their number one prospect was given the call, joining Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell in the show. Another pitching prospect also got the call for the first time.

Roman Anthony makes MLB debut
The top prospect in all of baseball, 21-year old Roman Anthony (pictured, left), was called up by the Red Sox yesterday and made his big league debut. MassLive's Chris Cotillo first floated the call-up as a possibility before MassLive's Katie Morrison O'Day confirmed the news. Anthony took the place of Wilyer Abreu, who was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain. That meant that Anthony was playing right field, a position he had only played four times this year in Triple-A. He hit fifth in the Boston batting order, in front of Campbell and Mayer. Anthony showed off his ability to hit the ball extremely hard in his second at-bat, roping a 111.2 mph line drive off the pitcher. Unfortunately for Anthony, the ball went right to the third baseman, keeping him hitless in his first game. Despite the 0-for-4 debut, he did draw his first career MLB walk, while also driving in his first run.

Cup of Coffee: Turner hits first professional homer in FCL; Rivas stays hot in DSL

6/10 Cup of Coffee:
While Roman Anthony deservedly stole all of the headlines after getting called up for his MLB debut, Boston's rookie-level affiliates went 2-0 on Monday. Will Turner (pictured) and Justin Barry both homered in Florida Complex League action, while Harold Rivas extended his career-opening hitting streak to six games in the Dominican Summer League.

-----

Jesus Travieso put together another solid start for the FCL Red Sox, allowing only one earned run on one hit, three walks, and seven strikeouts over three innings. Fellow righty Wuilliams Rodriguez notched the win in relief after yielding four earned runs on four hits (including a three-run home run), one walk, one hit by pitch, and one strikeout in four innings. Offensively, Gerardo Rodriguez led the way by going 2 for 4 with one double, one run scored, and one walk. Will Turner crushed his first professional home run as part of a 1-for-3 showing in which he drew three walks and scored three times. Justin Barry also went deep for the second time this season with his go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning. Alexander Mambel and Ilan Fernandez both doubled, with the latter driving in the former on his two-base hit in the second inning. Yan Cruz drove in one run as well, while Anderson Fermin drew two walks and scored one run out of the leadoff spot.

Cup of Coffee: Arias homers; Song debuts for Portland

6/9 Cup of Coffee: A come-from-behind win for Worcester and Noah Song's debut with the Sea Dogs were the highlights in the upper minors. Franklin Arias and Eduardo Rivera once again starred in Greenville for the Drive, while Kelvin Diaz went deep for Salem.

-----

Worcester's patient approach paid off as they came back to beat Rochester. The WooSox only had four hits but drew nine walks. Cup of Coffee: Anthony nearly sends a ball 500 feet, Garcia continues to hit in rehab stint

6/8 Cup of Coffee: There were quite the offensive fireworks in Worcester thanks to Roman Anthony (pictured) to highlight a full slate on Saturday. Portland played a pair of games after some rain, and Dorian Soto continues his strong start in the DSL.

-----

Worcester Red Sox 10, Rochester Red Wings (WSH) 4
After falling behind 4-0 after the top of the first inning, the Worcester offense scored a run in the bottom of the first, one in the second, and three in the third that was capped off with a two-run double by Ryan Noda to give the WooSox a 5-4 lead after three innings. The score remained the same until the bottom of the eighth inning, where Worcester exploded for five more runs. The cherry on top of the offensive outburst was a 497-foot grand slam by Roman Anthony that left his bat at 115 mph. The slam was Anthony's 10th home run of the year and his second grand slam of the season to bring his OPS to .916.

Richard Fitts started his first game in AAA after being demoted from Boston and struggled as he allowed four runs in three innings pitched while being charged for six hits allowed and two walks. Wyatt Olds followed Fitts and earned the win with three scoreless frames to go along with three strikeouts.

-----
In a resumption of a suspended game from Friday night, Portland surrendered runs in each of the first three innings to fall behind and never recover. Every pitcher to appear in the game for the Sea Dogs allowed at least one run with Hayden Mullins, who was charged with the loss allowing a game-high five runs in 2 1/3 innings.

A mostly quiet afternoon with the bats was led by Corey Rosier's two-hit, two-RBI outing coming from a two-run home run in the fifth inning. In three games since returning to Portland, the outfielder has hits in each contest with a home run and three runs driven in.
Similar to its performance in the first game of the day, the Portland offense could only muster three singles in the game from Allan Castro, Ahbram Liendo, and Karson Simas. Jack Anderson took the loss in his third start of the season for the Sea Dogs. The right-hander gave up three runs (two earned runs) across three innings with a walk and four strikeouts.

-----

Greenville Drive 5, Rome Emperors (ATL) 2
It was the Freili Encarnacion game for Greenville as the 20-year-old went 3 for 3 with a three-run home run in the victory. The homer was Encarnacion's first blast since earning a promotion to the Drive. Justin Riemer also recorded a two-hit night and drove in two on a double in the second inning to give Greenville the lead for good. Jonathan Brand was excellent in relief, picking up the win with 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Brand has bounced between Greenville, Portland, and Worcester this year but has posted 6 2/3 innings with the Drive while only allowing a single run.

-----

Lynchburg Hillcats (CLE) 10, Salem Red Sox 5
A late eighth-inning rally by Lynchburg trumped what would have been an impressive come-from-behind victory for Salem. Red Sox starter Blake Aita gave up three runs in the first and another one in the second to put his team behind 4-0 in the early going. The score would remain the same until Salem plated two in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. During the comeback, Natanael Yuten drove in a pair with two run-scoring singles. Taking the lead into the late innings, Joe Vogatsky and Nathanael Cruz combined to give up six runs over the final two frames. Vogatsky was ultimately tagged with the loss.

-----

FCL Red Sox 5, FCL Twins 1
Johanfran Garcia, who continues his rehab assignment, slugged a two-run home run and added another RBI on a sacrifice fly to power the Red Sox to victory. The home run was Garcia's third of the season pushing his average to .316 and his OPS to .965. Alongside Garcia's outing, D'Angelo Ortiz added two hits to raise his average to .309 and Tavano Baker supplied his own two-hit performance in the win. Yoelvin Chirino took over in relief following scoreless innings from rehabbing Jovani Moran and P.J. Labriola and picked up the win after four innings of work, with one run and six strikeouts added to his line.

-----

DSL Astros Blue 7, DSL Red Sox Blue 0
It was a tough outing for the Red Sox offense, scattering three singles across seven innings in the loss with two of them coming off the bat of Harold Rivas. Jesus Martinez took the loss after failing to get out of the first inning while being charged with four runs on a single hit, which was a home run, to go along with two walks and a strikeout.

-----

DSL Red Sox Red 5, DSL Pirates Gold 2
Strong pitching between five pitchers over seven innings along with multi-hit performances from Dorian Soto and Jhorman Bravo powered the Red Sox to its second victory on the young season. Soto's 2-for-2 outing along with a pair of RBIs and a run scored gives him nine hits over his first 19 at bats with four runs driven in. Angelo Ladera grabbed the win in relief, pitching a scoreless 1 2/3 frames while allowing a single baserunner on a hit by pitch and striking out two.

Player of the Day: In what was nothing short of a seismic home run in significance and literal distance, Roman Anthony was the talk of Minor League Baseball on Saturday. Boston's top prospect sent an eighth inning grand slam 497 feet into the Worcester night. The blast capped off a 1-for-4 evening with a walk and two runs scored added to his statline. Anthony is now slashing .290/.421/.495 in 57 games this season.

Cup of Coffee: Cespedes triples, homers for Salem; Bleis stays hot

6/7 Cup of Coffee:
A pair of top-20 prospects were the standouts on Friday as the organization had a full slate of games on the schedule. Miguel Bleis continued his excellent stretch, blasting another home run to power a Greenville victory. Salem dropped its contest despite an outstanding night from Yoeilin Cespedes (pictured). Worcester had the system's only win, with a strong Tyler Uberstine effort that got significant offensive support. Portland was, yet again, interrupted by rain. The Sea Dogs saw their contest suspended in the third inning. It was a tough afternoon in the complexes, as the three Rookie Ball teams were swept while being outscored 33-7.

-----

While a certain top prospect had a scheduled day off, Worcester ripped 12 hits, with seven going for extra bases. Ryan Noda blasted a pair of solo home runs, adding a walk. Nick Sogard led off the WooSox side of the game with his first homer of the season. Jhostynxon Garcia doubled as part of a three-hit effort, while Blaze Jordan had his fifth straight game (across two levels) with a two-bagger.

Cup of Coffee: Zanetello homers twice for Drive; Delzine debuts in DSL

6/4 Cup of Coffee:
It was the first full slate of the season, as all seven of Boston's minor league affiliates played on Tuesday. Roman Anthony and Ryan Noda homered in a thrilling walkoff win for the WooSox. Allan Castro and Max Ferguson led the Sea Dogs to victory with home runs in Portland. The FCL Red Sox bats delivered a sizzling performance, scoring 15 runs in an offensive explosion. While both DSL teams lost on Tuesday, there was still reason for excitement as Sadbiel Delzine started and made his debut in the Red Sox organization.

-----

The WooSox strung together an exciting tenth-inning rally to walk off Rochester in their series opener. Down 5-3 in the 10th inning, Ryan Noda tied the game with a two-run homer to center field. The WooSox then scored the winning run on a throwing error by Red Wings catcher Drew Millas following a bunt by Seby Zavala. Noda was one of Worcester's standout performers, going 2 for 5 and driving in four runs. Many of Boston's recent international signees made their professional debuts as DSL Red Sox Blue won and DSL Red Sox Red lost their respective Opening Day matchups. In the Florida Complex League, Jesus Travieso (pictured) and a rehabbing Johanfran Garcia were among the standouts in a come-from-behind win over the FCL Pirates.

2025 SoxProspects Donation Drive

Hello readers and listeners! Now that the minor league season is fully underway, we're asking for your help to raise $10,000 to keep SoxProspects.com running on all cylinders. We have kept the site free for over 21 years now, and we hope to do so for the foreseeable future. As we scout dozens of games first-hand each year, travel costs pile up. Donations help cover site costs in two primary areas: (1) first-hand coverage travel costs for scouting; and (2) general IT costs such as hardware, software, internet costs, and hosting fees.

In recent years, readers have made donations ranging from $5 to $500 to help defray these costs. We ultimately raised about $11,000 in connection with our 2024 drive. Thanks so much to everyone who chipped in!

While we've remained free, other prospect sites charge for content. For example, Baseball America charges about $100 per year for a digital subscription. We think BA is fantastic and absolutely worthy of a subscription, we have one! We’d like to think that our content would be worthy of comparable rates if we ever decided to go that route, but we've decided that we want to keep the site running for free for as long as we can. Donations from regular readers go a long way towards making that happen.

Ultimately, through about August 1, we are asking our readers to donate if they can to help keep SoxProspects.com free to the public. If you want to donate, first, we would like to thank you profusely – it’s truly appreciated! To donate, visit our DONATIONS PAGE. All payments are secured through PayPal, although you don’t need a PayPal account to contribute.

Last, to any of our regular readers that are not members of the SoxProspects Forum, please feel free to sign up! We’d love to get some new members in on the discussion and some new ideas floated around during our peak season! As always, thanks to all of our readers for visiting the site and all of our forum members for posting!

Sincerely,
The SoxProspects.com Team

Cup of Coffee: Early continues to shine, Brannon homers twice in Greenville

6/1 Cup of Coffee: It was a mixed bag of results across the farm system, as Connelly Early (pictured) starred on the mound for Portland, Johanfran Garcia continued his rehab in the complex league, and Brooks Brannon stayed hot in Greenville.

-----

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (NYY) 3, Worcester Red Sox 0
Despite eight walks drawn by the WooSox offense, Worcester failed to record a hit with runners in scoring position to drop its second straight game. In the shutout, Roman Anthony reached base twice with a walk and a single that left his bat at 111.8 mph and Ryan Noda singled and drew a pair of walks.

On the mound, Zach Penrod opened the game and struggled with his command, walking a pair and throwing just 10 of his 23 pitches of strikes in 2/3 of an inning. After Zack Kelly recorded the final out of the first, Tyler Uberstine pitched in bulk relief, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
