Cup of Coffee: Garcia homers and Soto dazzles in rain-shortened slate

6/28 Cup of Coffee:
Worcester and Portland were the only stateside affiliates to complete their games on Friday. Greenville, Salem, and the FCL all had games either postponed or suspended. In the DSL, Dorian Soto and Juanyerlin Duran were dominant in victories.

The WooSox got off to a hot start as Jhostynxon Garcia (pictured) launched a two-run home run in the first inning, but those would be their final runs of the game. Garcia finished 2 for 4, and Kristian Campbell went 1 for 2 with two walks and a throwing error. Tyler Uberstine allowed four earned runs for the first time this season as the RailRiders got to him for four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. He did strike out five, but allowed a home run to Spencer Jones, who was making his Triple-A debut. Jordan Hicks followed and struck out two while working around a hit and a walk in his only inning. He topped out at 100 mph with his fastball. Alex Hoppe struck out the side in the eighth as the bullpen kept the game close.

Portland's offense stumbled in a loss to Binghamton. Mikey Romero had two of the team's four hits, and Zach Ehrhard went 1 for 3 with a walk. Dalton Rogers left with the lead after firing 4 2/3 shutout innings. The Rumble Ponies got to Noah Song for three runs in 1 2/3 innings. He walked four and gave up just one hit, but it was a solo home run. He now has six walks in his last two outings, after walking five in his previous nine appearances.

Greenville Drive @ Rome Emperors (ATL), PPD (rain)
The first of three games to be affected by rain, this one will be made up on June 28 as part of a doubleheader.

-----

Hickory Crawdads (TEX) @ Salem Red Sox, PPD (rain)
This game started, but was ultimately suspended in the third inning. It will resume on June 28 and be a full nine-inning game. A seven-inning game will follow.

-----

FCL Red Sox @ FCL Twins, PPD (rain)
Friday's game was postponed and will be made as part of a doubleheader on the 4th of July.

-----

Dorian Soto led the way again as the Red squad doubled up the Brewers. Soto went 3 for 5 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Jhorman Bravo went 2 for 5 with an RBI, and Gustavo Antunez went 1 for 3 with a walk, double, and stolen base. Starter Christopher Cordero allowed four runs in his four frames, but the bullpen was excellent behind him. Robert Moreno and Felix Belisario combined to toss five hitless innings with six strikeouts.

The Blue squad came out on top in a pitcher's duel. Each team only tallied two hits, with Juanyerlin Duran turning in the best start of his career. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out eight over 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Dariel Morillo got the win as he kept the Padres off the board for the final seven outs. The big hit came from Hector Ramos as he laced a two-run double that gave the Red Sox the lead in the third.

Player of the Day: Jhostynxon Garcia blasted his ninth home run with Worcester, and 12th of the year, in Worcester's victory. He raised his June triple slash to .263/.362/.575 with six home runs in 21 games. The 22-year-old is sporting a high strikeout rate this month, but so far it has not affected his overall line.
