May Players of the Month: Blaze Jordan and Eduardo Rivera

The second full month of the minor league season is in the books, which means it is time to present the SoxProspects.com Players of the Month for May to corner infielder Blaze Jordan (pictured, left) and left-hander Eduardo Rivera (pictured, bottom right). Both prospects are currently ranked within the organization's top 40.

Jordan was officially promoted to Worcester on Tuesday after earning Eastern League Player of the Month honors for May. The right-handed hitting 22-year-old slashed a scorching .390/.490/.671 with five doubles, six home runs, 24 RBIs, 18 runs scored, three stolen bases, 14 walks, and 11 strikeouts in 26 games (98 plate appearances) with Portland last month. Overall, he batted .320/.415/.513 with 11 doubles, six home runs, 37 RBIs, 30 runs scored, three stolen bases, 22 walks, and 19 strikeouts in 44 games (176 plate appearances) for the Sea Dogs to open the 2025 campaign. He made 28 starts at first base, 14 starts at third base, and two starts at DH.

This marks the first time that Jordan has been recognized as a SoxProspects.com Player of the Month. The former 2020 third-round draft pick out of DeSoto Central High School (Southaven, Miss.) is currently ranked as the No. 23 prospect in the organization after making a hefty jump in today's rankings update based on notable improvements he has made this year. Heading into play on Friday, he has gone 5 for 12 (.417) with four doubles, one home run, four RBIs, five runs scored, one walk, and two strikeouts in his first three games with Worcester.

Rivera is also a first-time SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month. The soon-to-be 22-year-old lefty forged a 2.50 ERA (2.75 FIP) with 29 strikeouts to 11 walks in four outings (three starts) spanning 18 innings for Greenville in May. Overall, he has posted a 2.08 ERA (2.03 FIP) with 45 strikeouts to 13 walks through seven appearances (four starts) and 26 innings this season. Opposing hitters in the South Atlantic League have batted just .105 against him to this point.

A former 2021 11th-round draft selection of the Athletics out of Colegeio Cadest in Puerto Rico, Rivera was released by the A's last May and signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox shortly thereafter. The 6-foot-7, 237-pound southpaw ended his 2024 season in Salem and then emerged as one of the top arms in the Puerto Rican Winter League. This year, he has featured a 93-97 mph fastball that has reached 98 mph, an 87-89 mph cutter, an 83-86 mph slider, an 85-89 mph changeup, and a 78-80 mph curveball. He is currently regarded as the No. 34 prospect in Boston's farm system, which ranks 17th among pitchers in the organization.
