Cup of Coffee: Bleis, Zanetello power Greenville; Jordan stays hot for Worcester


6/6 Cup of Coffee:
Boston's affiliates went 4-3 on an action-packed Thursday. Blaze Jordan racked up two more doubles while Isaac Coffey made his Triple-A debut for Worcester. In Portland, lefties Connelly Early and Chris Murphy combined for four strikeouts over six innings. Miguel Bleis (pictured) homered twice, and Nazzan Zanetello also went deep for Greenville. Andruw Musett, Yoeilin Cespedes, and Enddy Azocar were among the top performers in a walk-off win for Salem. At the rookie level, the FCL Red Sox fell while the DSL squads split their games.

Blaze Jordan stayed hot at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and one run scored. Nate Eaton and Nick Sogard each had two hits as well. Sogard went 2 for 4 with one double, two RBIs, one run scored, and one walk, while Eaton went 2 for 4 with one double, one RBI, and one run scored. Seby Zavala went 1 for 3 with one double, one RBI, one run scored, and one walk. Jhostynxon Garcia tripled in one run and scored another. Phillip Sikes crushed a 363-foot solo shot for his third home run of the season. Roman Anthony and Vaughn Grissom went hitless, but they combined for one RBI and two runs scored on four walks. Trayce Thompson drew one walk and scored one run.

Isaac Coffey went 3 1/3 innings in his first start at the Triple-A level. The 24-year-old righty allowed one earned run on four hits (including a solo homer from old friend Franchy Cordero), one walk, and one strikeout. He threw 61 pitches (37 strikes) and generated 10 swings and misses. Wyatt Mills and Bryan Mata each surrendered a run out of the bullpen, while Austin Adams struck out two of the three batters he faced in a scoreless sixth inning. Isaiah Campbell was shelled for three runs in the ninth, but closed things out to seal Worcester's fourth straight win.

Connelly Early went five innings in his sixth start of the season for Portland. The 23-year-old lefty allowed two earned runs on nine hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. He threw 79 pitches (55 strikes) and generated nine swings and misses. Fellow southpaw Chris Murphy continued his rehab assignment and struck out one in a scoreless top of the sixth before Zach Bryant and Christopher Troye combined to surrender six additional runs (five earned) out of the bullpen. At the plate, Allan Castro went 2 for 4 with two walks and one stolen base. Marvin Alcantara went 1 for 4 with a season-high three RBIs and one run scored. Tyler Miller, Ronald Rosario, and Karson Simas all drove in runs as well, while Corey Rosier and Max Ferguson both doubled and scored one run.

Miguel Bleis paced the Greenville lineup, going 2 for 4 with two home runs, three RBIs, three runs scored, and one stolen base. Nazzan Zanetello also drilled a three-run shot for his fifth home run of the season, stole one base, and drew two walks. Andy Lugo went 2 for 3 with one double, one run scored, and one stolen base. Yophery Rodriguez drove in one run and scored another, Brooks Brannon scored one run, and Nelly Taylor singled and drew one walk. Noah Song got the start and tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one. Fellow righty Max Carlson took over and yielded two unearned runs on just one hit, no walks, and six strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Cooper Adams tossed three scoreless frames to end it and pull the Drive back to .500 at 27-27.

Andruw Musett led the way for Salem, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored. Yoeilin Cespedes went 2 for 5 with one double, one triple, two RBIs, and one run scored. Natanael Yuten doubled in one run and drew one walk. Frederik Jimenez went 1 for 2 with one run scored, two stolen bases, and two walks. Enddy Azocar had just one hit as well, but it was a walk-off double that scored Musett all the way from first base with two outs in the ninth. Pitching-wise, Luis Cohen went five innings in his start for the Red Sox, allowing three earned runs on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Jay Allmer worked two scoreless frames in relief of Cohen before making way for Manuel Medina, who surrendered three runs in the top of the eighth. Nicolas De La Cruz retired the lone batter he faced to earn his first winning decision of the year.

Gerardo Rodriguez and Jorge Rodriguez enjoyed productive days at the plate for the FCL Red Sox. The former went 2 for 3 with one double, a career-high five RBIs, and one run scored. The latter went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, also a career-high. Justin Barry doubled in one run and scored another, while Jhoan Peguero scored one run and stole one base. Avinson Pinto and Will Turner each drew two walks, with Pinto scoring three times and stealing his 11th base of the season. On the mound, Dalvinson Reyes proved to be the lone bright spot, as he allowed one earned run on one hit, three walks, and one strikeout over two innings in his fourth start of the season.

Christopher Alvarado went 1 for 2 with an RBI double and one stolen base out of the nine-hole. Harold Rivas went 1 for 2 with one walk from the leadoff spot. Stiven De La Cruz and Vladimir Asencio each went 1 for 3, with the latter scoring one run. Dariel Morillo took the loss in his first start of the season, allowing two earned runs on one hit, three walks, one hit by pitch, and three strikeouts in one inning. Three relievers combined to yield seven additional earned runs.

Dorian Soto and Jhorman Bravo combined for five of their side's eight hits. Soto went 3 for 4 with one RBI and two runs scored, while Bravo went 2 for 3 with his first professional home run (a two-run blast) and one walk. Miguel Welch went 1 for 3 with one RBI, one stolen base, and one walk. Gustavo Antunez went 1 for 2 with one RBI, one run scored, and one walk. Kenyon Simmons doubled and scored one run. On the flip side, Williams Montero got the start and went four innings in his pro debut. The 17-year-old righty allowed one earned run on two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Angel Lopez and Allan Griman then spun three scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

Player of the Day: Miguel Bleis gets the nod for putting together his second multi-homer game of the season for Greenville. In his last 10 games dating back to May 24, the 21-year-old Dominican-born outfielder is batting .361 (13 for 36) with five home runs, nine RBIs, 13 runs scored, five stolen bases, four walks, and six strikeouts. He is currently ranked as the No. 13 prospect in the organization.
