Cup of Coffee: Jose Bello debuts, Jesus Travieso continues to shine in FCL
6/24 Cup of Coffee: Boston's rookie-level affiliates went 1-2 on Monday. In the Florida Complex League, Jesus Travieso (pictured) picked up his first professional win while recent trade acquisition Jose Bello made his organizational debut on the mound. In the Dominican Summer League, the Blue squad was yet again interrupted by lightning while the Red squad came up short at home.

Jesus Travieso secured the first win of his professional career on Monday. The 18-year-old right-hander allowed just one unearned run on four hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts over five solid innings. Fellow righty Jose Bello, acquired from San Francisco as part of last week's stunning Rafael Devers trade, made his organizational debut out of the bullpen and struck out three in two scoreless frames. Juan Henriquez gave up one run in the eighth, while Jeison Payano put up a zero in the ninth for his first save of the season.
Three members of the FCL squad's starting lineup enjoyed multi-hit performances. Tavano Baker went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and one stolen base before being pinch-hit for in the seventh inning. Anderson Fermin went 2 for 3 with one RBI and two walks, while Gerardo Rodriguez went 2 for 5 with one stolen base. D'Angelo Ortiz singled in two runs, scored once, and drew two walks as part of a 1-for-2 afternoon. Avinson Pinto, Justin Barry, and Efren Teran all drove in runs as well. Though he went hitless, Edwin Brito contributed with two walks and two runs scored.

This game began on June 16 but was suspended early on due to lightning. Dani Richar ended up taking the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits, two walks, one hit by pitch, and four strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings. Yomar De La Rosa yielded just one unearned run on two hits, one walk, and four strikeouts in his three innings of relief. Luis Cabrera retired the only two batters he faced. Offensively, Hector Ramos led the way by going 2 for 3 with one RBI and two walks. Stiven De La Cruz also drove in one run and drew one walk as part of a 1-for-4 showing. Jostin Ogando went 1 for 3 with one double, one run scored, and one walk.
This game was suspended with the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning due to lightning. It is tentatively scheduled to be completed on July 17. Yander Bonaci went four innings in his first start for the Blue squad, allowing three earned runs on three hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Dariel Morillo followed and gave up an additional run on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts over two innings of relief. At the plate, Edwin Darville had gone 2 for 3 with one double, one RBI, one run scored, and one walk. Ramos and Vladimir Asencio both had gone 1 for 3 with one run scored and one walk. De La Cruz had also scored one run and walked once. Ogando had driven in one run on a seventh-inning sacrifice fly.

Berny Ortiz suffered the first loss of his professional career, allowing three earned runs on two hits, three walks, one hit by pitch, and two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings. Jose Golindano and Allan Griman combined to surrender four earned runs on five hits (including three home runs) in 4 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Breylin Cruz, on the other hand, struck out three across two scoreless frames of relief. At the plate, Alexander Alzi went 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored. Franklin Primera (who scored one run) and Adrian Valdez (who drove in one run and scored another) both doubled for their lone hits of the contest. Givian Sirvania plated Valdez with a seventh-inning RBI triple.

Player of the Day: Jesus Travieso gets the nod for checking off an important career first on Monday. The Venezuelan-born hurler has been on an impressive run in the Florida Complex League as of late and now owns a 3.33 ERA with 38 strikeouts to 19 walks through eight outings (seven starts) spanning 27 innings so far this season. Opposing hitters have batted .222 against Travieso, who is currently ranked as the No. 51 prospect in the organization.
