Cup of Coffee: Brito homers twice on DSL Opening Day; Travieso fans six in FCL

6/3 Cup of Coffee:
Monday marked the start of the 2025 Dominican Summer League season. Many of Boston's recent international signees made their professional debuts as DSL Red Sox Blue won and DSL Red Sox Red lost their respective Opening Day matchups. In the Florida Complex League, Jesus Travieso (pictured) and a rehabbing Johanfran Garcia were among the standouts in a come-from-behind win over the FCL Pirates.

-----

Jesus Traviesto was solid in his fourth start for the FCL Red Sox. The 18-year-old righty allowed only one unearned run on three hits, two walks, and six strikeouts over four innings. Jeison Payano and Juan Henriquez impressed out of the bullpen as well, combining for five strikeouts in four scoreless, no-hit frames of relief. Offensively, Avinson Pinto and Anderson Fermin each had two hits. Pinto went 2 for 4 with one run scored, while Fermin went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Gerardo Rodriguez doubled in three runs with his lone hit. D'Angelo Ortiz also drove in three runs as part of a 1-for-3 showing in which he scored one run and drew one walk. Johanfran Garcia had the biggest hit of the day, as he went 1 for 4 with an eighth-inning solo shot for the second home run of his rehab assignment.

Josue Brito got his second season in the DSL off to a banging start, going 2 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs. Eliezer Alfonso, Hector Ramos, and Vladimir Asencio each had two hits as well. Alfonzo went 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored, Ramos went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, and Asencio singled twice. Harold Rivas tripled in one run and scored another out of the leadoff spot, while Christopher Alvarado accounted for his side's lone double. On the mound, Dani Richar went 3 2/3 innings in the first start of his professional career. The 19-year-old righty allowed one earned run on six hits, zero walks, and four strikeouts. Allan Griman also made his pro debut out of the bullpen and retired two of the three batters he faced.

The reigning DSL champions dropped their high-scoring season opener in dramatic fashion. Three members of the Red squad recorded multiple hits, with Jhonny Osta leading the way by going 3 for 5 with one double, four RBIs, one run scored, and one stolen base in his professional debut. Alexander Alzi, also making his pro debut, went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Adrian Valdez went 2 for 3 with two doubles, three runs scored, and three walks. On the flip side, Berny Ortiz went 3 2/3 innings in his first pro start. The 19-year-old righty allowed two earned runs on two hits, one walk, one hit by pitch, and three strikeouts. Ranci Castillo and Givian Sirvania combined for three scoreless frames of relief.

Player of the Day: Josue Brito gets the nod for putting together the first multi-homer game of his young career on Monday. The 18-year-old first baseman/outfielder was signed for $20,000 out of Venezuela last January and batted .212/.379/.346 with five doubles, three home runs, 14 RBIs, 15 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 27 walks, and 31 strikeouts over 37 games (132 plate appearances) in his debut season with DSL Red Sox Blue.
