Cup of Coffee: Grissom, Thompson power WooSox in slugfest win

7/9 Cup of Coffee:
It was a tough night for the Red Sox farm as only two affiliates picked up wins in a full slate of games on Tuesday. A four-hit game from Vaughn Grissom (pictured) and a three-hit game by Trayce Thompson led the WooSox to victory despite an inconsistent outing from Kyle Harrison on the mound. The Sea Dogs and Drive fell despite strong starting pitching performances by Eduardo Rivera and Michael Sansone. Justin Gonzales and Enddy Azocar collected run-scoring doubles in a loss for Salem, while Anderson Fermin and Gerardo Rodriguez delivered outstanding games in the FCL. The DSL teams split their games, with Geomaikel Martinez powering the Red team to the win.

-----

The Worcester bats exploded in their series opener against Rochester. Vaughn Grissom kicked off the scoring with an RBI single in the first and went on to have one of his best games of the season, going 4 for 4 with a walk and two doubles. Trayce Thompson drilled RBI singles in the third and fifth innings as part of a 3-for-5 game. Seby Zavala and Nathan Hickey each blasted two-run homers, their fourth and 11th of the season, respectively. Kristian Campbell started at first base and went 1 for 3 with a double and two walks.

Cup of Coffee: Bello, Rodriguez highlight strong day for pitching in FCL

7/8 Cup of Coffee:
Boston's rookie-level affiliates went 3-1 on a Monday in which five games were scheduled. Behind solid pitching from the likes of Jose Bello and Wuilliams Rodriguez (pictured), the FCL Red Sox swept the FCL Rays in a doubleheader. Both Dominican Summer League squads, on the other hand, were affected by the weather.

-----

This game began on July 3 but was suspended in the third inning due to rain. After Dalvinson Reyes struck out three over two scoreless, no-hit innings in his start last Thursday, Jesus Travieso, Tejahari Wilson, and Yoandys Veraza combined to allow just two hits across seven shutout frames of relief on Monday. Offensively, Franyer Noria went 3 for 3 with one run scored, one walk, and one stolen base out of the nine-hole. Batting in front of him, Justin Barry crushed a two-run shot for his third home run of the season, scored twice, and stole two bases as part of a 1-for-4 showing.

Cup of Coffee: Sikes and Grissom lift Worcester; Tibbs and Castro homer for Portland

7/7 Cup of Coffee: There was plenty of offense on the farm on Sunday as Phillip Sikes, Vaughn Grissom, Allan Castro, James Tibbs III, Freili Encarnacion, and Enddy Azocar (pictured) all homered. The pitching could not get the job done, however, as Worcester was the only affiliate in the win column. Connelly Early had a rare rough outing, but John Holobetz and Luis Cohen were impressive in the lower minors.

-----

The WooSox held off the Mets to end a three-game losing skid. Things got off to a rocky start as the Mets got to Cooper Criswell for five runs over the first 1 1/3 innings, including a two-run home run by the rehabbing Jesse Winker. Wyatt Olds followed and managed to allow only one run over 2 1/3 despite walking six while failing to record a strikeout. Jovani MoranAlex Hoppe, and Isaiah Campbell combined to allow only one run over the final 5 1/3, with Moran getting the win and Campbell earning the save.

A two-run home run from Phillip Sikes gave Worcester the lead in the sixth, and a solo shot off the bat of Vaughn Grissom proved to be the winning run in the seventh. Sikes finished 1 for 2 with a walk and three RBI, while Grissom went 2 for 5 with an RBI double. Nick Sogard and Blaze Jordan both doubled as part of a multi-hit game, while Kristian Campbell went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts. Campbell is hitting .160/.222/.200 with 13 strikeouts in 25 at-bats in July.

Cup of Coffee: A pair of rehab assignments continue in Portland, Greenville bullpen impresses in victory

7/6 Cup of Coffee: While it was a fairly quiet night for Boston's affiliates' bats, Greenville got strong showings on both sides of the ball thanks to Nazzan Zanetello (pictured) and the pitching duo of Erik Rivera and Matt McShane. In Portland, the Sea Dogs hosted Hunter Dobbins and Masataka Yoshida for the latest stops on their respective rehab assignments, and Griffin Kilander turned in a strong performance on the mound for Salem.

-----

Worcester's offense could not find its footing while failing to get a hit with runners in scoring position to drop its third game in a row. Isaac Coffey started and picked up the loss with three runs allowed, including two home runs, three walks, four hits, and four strikeouts in four innings of work. Following Coffey, Hobie Harris and Jose Adames combined for four scoreless frames out of the WooSox bullpen. Worcester's only run of the night came off the bat of Seby Zavala, who launched a solo home run in the top of the fourth that cut the deficit to 2-1 at the time. Kristian Campbell went hitless out of the DH spot while Jhostynxon Garcia and Vaughn Grissom each picked up a knock.

Cup of Coffee: Romero provides fireworks to support Houck and Tolle gem

7/5 Cup of Coffee:
Hadlock Field was the site of some exciting fireworks both during and after the Portland victory. The mid-week switch to maximize the number of teams able to host July 4th fireworks had Worcester, Portland, and Greenville on the move. Tanner Houck returned on a rehab assignment to where he spent most of the 2019 season, pairing with Payton Tolle to dominate on the mound. They also got plenty of offensive support, notably off the bat of Mikey Romero (pictured). Worcester and Greenville fell following their bus trips, while Salem had no such travels to blame for its comeback loss. Boston's two DSL teams went head-to-head, while the FCL doubleheader was a weather casualty.

-----

Hits were hard to come by in the Salt City, as the teams matched zeroes into the sixth inning. Kristian Campbell had two of Worcester's four hits on the night. Nathan Hickey and Karson Simas also had a base hit apiece. Jose de Leon returned from the injured list with three scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out five without issuing a walk. After Cooper Adams pitched a scoreless fourth, Bryan Mata cruised through the fifth before allowing a decisive four-run sixth, taking the loss. Jovani Moran and Alex Hoppe also went a shutout frame apiece.

Cup of Coffee: Bleis, White homer for Greenville; Brannon, Salazar also go deep

7/4 Cup of Coffee:
Happy Fourth of July. Thursday was a tough day for Boston's affiliates. Nick Sogard and Kristian Campbell combined for five hits in Worcester's loss to Syracuse. Brooks Brannon homered for the first time at the Double-A level in Portland's loss to New Hampshire. Miguel Bleis (pictured) and Hudson White both went deep in Greenville's loss to Asheville. Kleyver Salazar also left the yard in Salem's loss to Lynchburg. As for the rookie-level teams, the FCL squad's game was suspended due to rain, while both DSL squads fell.

-----

Tyler Uberstine took the loss in his seventh start for Worcester after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits (including two homers), one walk, one hit by pitch, and four strikeouts over five innings. Isaiah Campbell surrendered two additional runs in the top of the eighth, while Wyatt Olds and Hobie Harris combined for three scoreless frames of relief. On the flip side, Nick Sogard and Kristian Campbell enjoyed productive nights at the plate. Sogard went 3 for 5 with one double and one run scored, while Campbell went 2 for 4 with one double and two RBIs. Jhostynxon Garcia and Blaze Jordan both drove in runs as well. Masataka Yoshida went 1 for 3 with one run scored and played five innings in left field in the second game of his rehab assignment.

-----

Dalton Rogers struggled with command in his latest start for Portland, surrendering four earned runs on two hits (including one home run), a season-high six walks, and seven strikeouts over four innings. Only 42 of the 87 pitches he threw landed for strikes. In relief of Rogers, Jonathan Brand and Jorge Juan allowed three additional runs (two earned) in three combined innings out of the bullpen, while Yovanny Cruz tossed a scoreless eighth.

Offensively, Mikey Romero and Drew Ehrhard accounted for half of their side's 12 hits. Romero went 3 for 5 with one RBI and one run scored, while Ehrhard went 3 for 4 with one double. James Tibbs III and Allan Castro also doubled as part of two-hit outings, with the former scoring one run and the latter driving in another. Brooks Brannon crushed a solo shot in the second inning for his first Double-A homer and his only hit of the night. Max Ferguson tripled and scored one run, while Ahbram Liendo had one RBI, one run scored, one walk, and one stolen base to bring his total on the year up to 20.

-----

Brandon Clarke scattered one hit, one walk, and one hit by pitch while striking out four over 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his latest start for Greenville. Fellow lefty Shea Sprague received the bulk of the work out of the bullpen and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits (including one home run), one walk, and seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 frames. Cooper Adams fanned three more in his 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Miguel Bleis put together a productive night at the plate, going 2 for 4 with one double, a solo shot for his 11th home run of the season, and one stolen base. Hudson White also cranked a solo homer for his fourth big fly of the year. Johanfran Garcia went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Franklin Arias doubled for his only hit, while Nelly Taylor drew two walks and stole two bases.

-----

Yhoiker Fajardo struggled in his third start for Salem, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits, one walk, and three strikeouts over four-plus innings. Calvin Bickerstaff was charged with one run in his two innings of relief, while PJ Labriola fanned a pair across two scoreless frames. Kleyver Salazar led the way at the plate by going 2 for 4 with a solo shot for his third home run of the season. Frederik Jimenez also tallied two hits (both singles) and drew one walk.

-----

This game was suspended in the middle of the third inning due to rain and is tentatively scheduled to be completed on Monday, July 7. Dalvinson Reyes had struck out three of the first six batters he faced over two perfect innings. Franyer Noria had set the tone offensively by singling in the top of the third, stealing second base, and eventually scoring the game's first run on a passed ball. Anderson Fermin had also drawn one walk and stolen two bases.

-----

Oscar Vaamonde went 4 1/3 innings in his start, allowing four earned runs on three hits (including one home run), two walks, and four strikeouts. Jainer Almanza and Ranci Castillo were tagged for a total of five runs in 4 2/3 combined innings out of the bullpen. Offensively, Harold Rivas and Maikol Tovar accounted for four of the Blue squad's nine hits. Rivas went 2 for 5 with one double and two RBIs, while Tovar went 2 for 4 with one double, one RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base. Vladimir Asencio also doubled, drove in two runs, and scored once as part of a 1-for-4 day.

-----

Williams Montero took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, one walk, one hit by pitch, and five strikeouts in three innings. Angelo Ladera gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, while Jose Golindano struck out three over three scoreless frames of relief. At the plate, Jhorman Bravo accounted for his side's lone RBI when he drove in Luis Aular on an eighth-inning sacrifice fly. Dorian Soto and Kevin Morillo both doubled for their only hits.

-----

Player of the Day: Miguel Bleis gets the nod after going deep for the first time in nearly a month on Thursday night. The 21-year-old outfielder is now batting .241/.329/.446 with 11 doubles, one triple, a team-leading 11 home runs and 39 RBIs, 42 runs scored, 18 stolen bases, 28 walks, and 61 strikeouts in 60 games (255 plate appearances) for Greenville this season. He is currently ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the organization.

-----

Kyle Harrison made his second start in a Worcester uniform and lasted four innings while surrendering three earned runs on five hits. He also walked two and struck out two on 79 pitches. Wyatt Mills gave up two runs in two innings before Austin Adams tossed a shutout frame with one strikeout and no walks. Masataka Yoshida made his 2025 season debut in this one as the designated hitter. He went 0 for 2 with a strikeout and a walk. Cup of Coffee: Mullins throws immaculate inning, Ehrhard homers for Portland

7/2 Cup of Coffee:
On a strange day full of rain and extra-inning affairs, only one Red Sox affiliate played a regular nine-inning game. Hayden Mullins (pictured) threw an immaculate inning and Zach Ehrhard blasted a three-run homer in a Sea Dogs win. Aaron Brooks and Joey Gartrell led Salem to the win, combining for seven shutout innings while Natanael Yuten tripled twice. Both Worcester and Greenville were rained out and will play doubleheaders on Wednesday. Avison Pinto reached base four times in a win for the FCL Red Sox. In the DSL, Jakson Gamboa led the Red team to the win while a strong game for Justin Ogando wasn't enough for the Blue team.

-----

Syracuse Mets (NYM) @ Worcester Red Sox (postponed)

Minor Notes: Yoshida set to begin rehab assignment; changes for Harrison and Tibbs

Worcester fans will see a familiar face when the WooSox return to Polar Park on Tuesday. All three pieces of the Rafael Devers trade had changes over the past week, and Kristian Campbell (pictured, left) officially made his debut at first base.

Yoshida to begin rehab assignment
Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that Masataka Yoshida is set to begin a rehab assignment with Worcester on Tuesday. Yoshida has been recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old hopes to be back around the All-Star break, which begins on July 14. Yoshida figures to get the bulk of his at-bats as a designated hitter when he makes it back to Boston.

Campbell and Tibbs debut at first base
As the organization plans for both short-term and potentially long-term solutions at first base given the significant injury to Triston Casas, two players made their professional debuts at first base last week. Kristian Campbell played three games at first base and two at second base in Worcester's last series, and James Tibbs III made his first start at first base on Sunday for the Sea Dogs. Tibbs had played exclusively right field prior to last week's series finale.

Cup of Coffee: Early fires six no-hit innings; Campbell and Tibbs play first base

6/30 Cup of Coffee:
A near no-hitter from the Sea Dogs was the highlight on Sunday. Connelly Early (pictured) was dominant again for Portland, and he was supported by a Max Ferguson home run. It was another rough appearance for Tanner Houck, while Kristian Campbell got more reps at first base. Greenville got rained out, and Salem's offense sputtered in a doubleheader.

-----

The Red Sox tried a new approach to help out the struggling Tanner Houck, but the results did not improve. Jovani Moran worked a spotless inning as the opener, and then Houck came in to start the second. He kept the RailRiders off the board for his first two innings, but he gave up two home runs in the fourth. In all, he allowed four runs on seven hits over 3 2/3, walking one and striking out three. A double off the bat of Vaughn Grissom and a single from Corey Rosier were Worcester’s only two hits. Kristian Campbell went 0 for 2 with two walks while playing first base for the third time in a week.

6/28 Cup of Coffee:

-----

The WooSox got off to a hot start as Jhostynxon Garcia (pictured) launched a two-run home run in the first inning, but those would be their final runs of the game. Garcia finished 2 for 4, and Kristian Campbell went 1 for 2 with two walks and a throwing error. Tyler Uberstine allowed four earned runs for the first time this season as the RailRiders got to him for that amount on four hits and four walks over four innings. He did strike out five, but allowed a home run to Spencer Jones, who was making his Triple-A debut. Jordan Hicks followed and struck out two while working around a hit and a walk in his only inning. He topped out at 100 mph with his fastball. Alex Hoppe struck out the side in the eighth as the bullpen kept the game close.

Cup of Coffee: Harrison, Rivera make Worcester, Portland debuts; Clarke returns

6/27 Cup of Coffee:
Thursday's slate featured a few noteworthy debuts on the pitching side of things and not much scoring for Boston's affiliates. Kyle Harrison, a key piece of the Rafael Devers trade, made his organizational debut in Worcester's loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Eduardo Rivera, who was recently promoted, made his first start at the Double-A level in Portland's loss to Binghamton. Brandon Clarke (pictured) struck out three over two innings in his first start for Greenville in more than a month. Down in the Dominican Summer League, Josue Brito went deep for the fifth time in 15 games.

Cup of Coffee: Campbell debuts at first base, Aita dominates, Cespedes hits clutch home run

6/26 Cup of Coffee
: Blake Aita turned in a fantastic outing to lead Greenville to a win over Rome. Salem had a well-pitched night as well, which was rewarded with a win when Yoeilin Cespedes crushed a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning. The WooSox got shutout, but Kristian Campbell played first base for the first time.

-----

The most notable part of an otherwise forgettable night for Worcester was Kristian Campbell making his professional debut at first base. Campbell worked at first base on the side with the major league staff for a little bit before being sent down, and now has his first game action under his belt. It was a tough night for Campbell at the plate, going 0 for 4 with four strikeouts. Tyler McDonough, Blaze Jordan and Corey Rosier had the only hits for the WooSox, all singles. Robert Stock got the start on the bump and tossed 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball. He struck out six and only walked one. The Greenville and Salem bats turned in quiet performances in a pair of losses. Jorge Rodriguez's huge game led the Red Sox to victory in the FCL, while strong starting pitching performances propelled both DSL teams to wins.

Minor Notes: Tibbs and Bello enter rankings; Tolle promoted to Portland

In the wake of the Rafael Devers trade, the new-look Red Sox shuffled rosters throughout the organization last week. On the field, a combined no-hitter in Portland was the highlight of the week for Red Sox affiliates.

Players acquired in Devers trade debut in Sox system
Three of the four players acquired in the Devers trade made their first appearances in the Red Sox organization during the last week. James Tibbs III entered the SoxProspects.com rankings as the eighth prospect in the system and made his debut at the Double-A level. In five games with the Sea Dogs, Tibbs has gone 5 for 19 with a double and a triple. Jose Bello, ranked No. 45, threw two scoreless innings on Monday in his first appearance with the FCL Red Sox. Jordan Hicks began his rehab assignment on Sunday as he returns from a toe injury. Cup of Coffee: Romero's slam powers Portland, Salem staff puts together a gem

6/22 Cup of Coffee: A stellar pitching performance by the Salem staff helped support an offense that scored just three runs and a big evening for Mikey Romero (pictured) highlighted the night across the Boston affiliates on Saturday with a grand slam. In Worcester, Kristian Campbell appeared in his first game since being sent down on Friday, and the DSL squads matched up against one another. Meanwhile, Greenville and the FCL squad were unable to come away with victories.

-----

Buffalo Bison (TOR) 10, Worcester Red Sox 6
The Worcester bullpen gave up six runs over the final three innings and the offense couldn't maintain its middle-innings production, falling to Buffalo. Worcester fell behind 2-0 after one inning and 4-1 after three before a four-run fourth, along with another tally in the fifth, gave Worcester a 6-4 lead. As part of the offense in the fourth inning, Vaughn Grissom and Trayce Thompson hit back-to-back home runs before Corey Rosier added a solo shot later in the frame. Following his demotion from Boston, Kristian Campbell went 0 for 3 with a walk in his first game in Worcester.

Cooper Criswell started for the WooSox and allowed four runs on four hits, one of which was a home run, walking two and striking out four in five innings. Hobie Harris took the loss in relief as he allowed three runs over the following two innings while allowing a home run of his own.

Cup of Coffee: Romero homers in return; Fajardo debuts for Salem

6/21 Cup of Coffee:
It was a busy day down on the farm, with all seven affiliates in action and nary a single rainout in the offing. Mikey Romero (pictured) returned from the injured list to power a Portland victory. Tyler Uberstine and Eduardo Rivera turned in quality starts for Worcester and Greenville in wins. Yhoiker Fajardo made his Salem debut but took the loss as the offense was stymied. The DSL teams completed a sweep, while the FCL Sox were knocked off by their cross-town rival.

-----

The WooSox fell into an early 1-0 hole but scored seven unanswered runs. Blaze Jordan continued to swing a hot bat, as the first baseman was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBI. He is 8 for 16 through the first four games of the series. Jhostynxon Garcia made an impact on both sides of the ball, going 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored at the plate and cutting down the potential tying run at the plate with an outfield assist on a would-be sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The offensive support was more than enough for Tyler Uberstine, who allowed one run on six hits in six innings. The right-hander walked and struck out three apiece. Somewhat incredibly, it was Uberstine's first winning decision since July 2022. Wyatt Olds, Alex Hoppe, and Jose Adames each went a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to preserve the win.

Cup of Coffee: Jordan stays hot in Worcester; Liendo finishes homer shy of cycle

6/20 Cup of Coffee:
While the big club was off, all seven of Boston's affiliates were in action on Thursday. Blaze Jordan (pictured) and Corey Rosier were among the offensive standouts in Worcester's bounce-back win over Buffalo. Ahbram Liendo nearly hit for the cycle while James Tibbs III recorded his first multi-hit game at the Double-A level in Portland's loss to Akron. Blake Aita did not get much run support as Greenville fell to Greensboro. Yoeilin Cespedes and Fraymi De Leon combined for four hits in Salem's loss to Fredericksburg. Anderson Fermin enjoyed a productive day at the plate in the FCL, while both DSL squads came away with wins.

-----

Robert Stock emerged victorious in his 10th start (14th overall appearance) of the season for Worcester. The journeyman right-hander allowed four earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch over six innings. He finished with 77 pitches (49 strikes) and induced 10 swings and misses. Wyatt Mills, the rehabbing Chris Murphy, and Austin Adams then combined for three perfect frames of relief to end it.

6/19 Cup of Coffee
: Tanner Houck is back on the mound, as he made a rehab start for Worcester. Blaze Jordan continued his great season with a home run. Hayden Mullins and John Holobetz pitched very well for Portland and Greenville, respectively. Salem swept a doubleheader, with Shea Sprague (pictured) dominating on the mound in the second game.

-----

Tanner Houck opened up this game, making his first rehab start since being placed on the IL on May 14. He pitched the first inning, then walked the first batter of the second inning before being pulled. The righty allowed one run on two hits, throwing 32 pitches. He produced one whiff on a sweeper, and as Ian Cundall notes, his fastball sat 94-96 mph while mixing in a new cutter. Isaac Coffey struggled in relief, allowing four earned runs and getting just two outs. Jose De Leon wasn't much better, surrendering six earned runs in 3 1/3 frames. Hobie Harris and Jose Adames pitched well, each tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and no walks. It was a quiet night for the Worcester offense with just one hit, no runs, and eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings against a rehabbing Max ScherzerBlaze Jordan provided the only run, belting a solo home run, his second with the WooSox. Vaughn Grissom also roped his 14th double of the year.

Cup of Coffee: Tibbs debuts for Sea Dogs; Soto homers twice in DSL

6/18 Cup of Coffee:
Excellent pitching performances in the upper minors were a highlight of the night for the Red Sox affiliates. Richard Fitts threw five scoreless innings in a WooSox win and Connelly Early (pictured) struck out eight batters in six strong innings in a hard luck loss for Portland. James Tibbs III was 0 for 4 in his Sea Dogs debut. Franklin Arias and Nazzan Zanetello had great games but the Drive lost to Greensboro. Salem's series opener against Fredericksburg was rained out. Jorge Rodriguez delivered a strong performance in a win in an FCL Red Sox win. Dorian Soto ripped the first two home runs of his professional career in the DSL.

-----

After struggling in his first two starts since being optioned to Worcester, Richard Fitts was lights out on Tuesday night. Bryan Mata allowed two runs on three hits in an inning and Alex Hoppe allowed one run in 2/3 of an inning. Isaiah Campbell earned his sixth save of the season with a shutout 1 1/3 innings.

A big week across the Boston organization got turned upside down on Sunday afternoon as Rafael Devers was traded to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster deal. On the field, Roman Anthony made his highly anticipated big league debut. Cup of Coffee: Travieso and Co. deal in FCL: Both DSL games interrupted by lightning

6/17 Cup of Coffee:
The Florida Complex League Red Sox were the only rookie-level affiliate to get a full game in on Monday. Both Dominican Summer League squads saw their games suspended in the early stages due to lightning.

-----

Jesus Travieso (pictured) put together his longest start of the season to date for the FCL Red Sox. The 18-year-old right-hander allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out five over a career-high five innings of work. Fellow righties Gilbel Galvan, who was credited with the winning decision, and Juan Henriquez combined for four additional scoreless frames out of the bullpen to preserve the shutout. Yan Cruz led the way offensively by going 2 for 3 with one RBI and one walk. Edwin Brito also drove in a run as part of a 1-for-4 day. Trade Analysis: Initial scouting reports for James Tibbs and Jose Bello

Early Sunday evening, word started to go around that the Red Sox had dealt designated hitter Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in return for two major league pitchers, Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison, and two prospects, outfielder James Tibbs and right-hander Jose Bello. Here are our initial scouting reports for Tibbs and Bello. Please note, these will be updated with a more complete scouting report once we have seen the players in action.

James Tibbs, OF, High-A Northwest League
Age: 22
Started: 2024 1st round, 13th overall
Projected initial rank: 6-8
Scouting Report
Physical Description: Medium frame. Well developed lower half. Minimal remaining projection.

Hit: Starts square and vertical with his hands high. Utilizes a leg kick timing device. Quick hands and solid bat speed. Patient approach and makes good swing decisions. Low chase rate and makes consistent contact in the zone. Sees a lot of pitches and will take a walk. Runs an above-average hard-hit rate. Better against fastballs than secondary offerings, but has shown the ability to make adjustments against off-speed and spin already. Whiff rates tick up against velocity. Groundball rate has been higher in pro ball than it was as an amateur and bears watching as he moves into the high minors. Has hit lefties well in a small sample in the low minors, but struggled at times against them as an amateur.

Power: Above-average raw power. Power plays best on pitches middle-in to the pull side, Produces solid exit velocities. Grooved swing with a slight uppercut lends itself to driving the ball with back spin.

Run: Below-average speed. Not a major part of his game.

Field: Corner outfield-only profile. Likely best suited for left field given the complexities of playing right field  at Fenway Park. Has only played right field in pro ball, but did play left and first base in college.

Arm: Average arm strength. Solid enough for corner outfield.

Cup of Coffee: Ehrlicher unhittable in Salem loss

6/16 Cup of Coffee:
Between the sweep of the Yankees and the team trading a homegrown superstar for the second time in five years, one might have fallen behind on the in-game action of Boston's minor league affiliates. Loyal reader, the SoxProspects.com Cup of Coffee is here to catch you up. The lone victory of the day came from the Greenville Drive, as a Nelly Taylor homer highlighted a march of 20 baserunners. Austin Ehrlicher (pictured) went five no-hit innings for Salem, but the Sox dropped the come-from-behind loss. Worcester had a front-row seat for one of baseball's top pitching prospects, who showed off why he is so well regarded, while Portland squandered a solid Dalton Rogers start.

-----

The WooSox were stymied by Phillies phenom Andrew Painter. A second-inning single by Nathan Hickey notched the only hit in five innings against the starter. A home run from Seby Zavala in the eighth spoiled the shutout bid, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Blaze Jordan was held hitless but did convert an unassisted double play in the third inning, helping to preserve a scoreless tie. Starter Cooper Criswell went four scoreless innings, surrendering three hits, walking three, and striking out two. Zach Penrod took the loss, allowing two runs in the fifth. Penrod was designated for assignment later in the day, necessitated by the 40-man roster additions from That Trade.

Cup of Coffee: Jordan comes through in Worcester, Wehunt dazzles in Portland

6/15 Cup of Coffee: There were plenty of fireworks across the Boston affiliates on Saturday. Thanks to Blaze Jordan's (pictured) two-run double in extra innings, Worcester was able to sneak out a win. In
Portland, Blake Wehunt struck out a career-high 13 batters, and it was a tough showing on the pitching side across the Complex Leagues, combining to allow 31 runs across its three contests.

-----

Worcester Red Sox 5, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (PHI) 3 (10 Innings)
Despite giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at three, Worcester got the eventual game-winning two-run double by Blaze Jordan to help snap a brief two-game skid. The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead through the first four innings and it stayed that way until the eighth inning. Following six scoreless innings from Tyler Uberstine, Chris Murphy succeeded him and struggled. Still in the midst of working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Murphy allowed three runs, two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in his 1 2/3 innings to let the lead slip away. The 3-3 score took the game into extra innings where Jordan came through with his go-ahead hit.

Despite earning a no decision, Uberstine has impressed since earning a promotion to Worcester. in 27 innings since being brought up to Triple-A, the Red Sox's 19th round pick in 2021 has pitched to the tune of a 2.67 ERA with 29 strikeouts.

-----

Portland Sea Dogs 7, Somerset Patriots (NYY) 2
Coming out of the bullpen in bulk relief after Caleb Bolden pitched a scoreless first inning, Blake Wehunt tossed seven dominant innings while striking out a career-high 13 batters to earn his second win of the season. The 6-foot-7 hurler threw 63 of his 94 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 3.81. Following Wehunt's stellar outing, Gabriel Jackson pitched the bottom of the ninth and allowed a run on two hits. The Sea Dog offense gave Wehunt plenty of run support with an 11-hit outburst, led by three-hit outings from Marvin Alcantara and Drew Ehrhard while Tyler Miller contributed with a pair of doubles in the victory.

-----

Hudson Valley Renegades (NYY) 1, Greenville Drive 0
Only a single run in the bottom of the first inning allowed by Jovani Moran proved to be the difference as the Drive offense could only muster five singles across the game while going hitless with runners in scoring position. After Moran walked two, hit two and gave up a hit along with the run, Eduardo Rivera pitched in bulk out of the bullpen and dazzled. The left-hander pitched 6 2/3 innings while allowing three baserunners and struck out seven to lower his ERA to 1.64 across 38 1/3 innings. While the Greenville hitters were mostly quiet, Johanfran Garcia and Brooks Brannon each slapped a pair of singles in the defeat. The defeat was Greenville's second straight 1-0 loss.

-----

Delmarva Shorebirds (BAL) 9, Salem Red Sox 6
Salem got roughed up early in the game and could not bounce back on its way to its second straight defeat. Ben Hansen was charged with the loss, as in just two innings he allowed four runs on eight hits along with three walks and two strikeouts. Salem was able to cut its deficit to 5-3 in the top of the fifth after a balk and an RBI single by Starlyn Nunez before Adam Bates, who relieved Hansen, allowed three runs in the sixth to put the game away for good.

-----

FCL Twins 13, FCL Red Sox 5
Command was at a premium for the Red Sox pitching staff as they allowed 12 hits and 13 walks to go along with two hit batters on its way to a blowout loss on Saturday. After putting together four starts in a row in which he allowed a total of four runs, Yoelvin Chirino struggled in the loss with four hits and two walks allowed along with five earned runs on his way to being charged with the loss. The Red Sox offense saw seven of its hitters record at least one knock, with Anderson Fermin leading the way with a 2-for-3 statline along with an RBI and a walk. Outside of Fermin, Edwin Brito, Liosward Marin, Jorge Rodriguez, and Jhoan Peguero also recorded RBIs in the loss.

-----

DSL Reds 6, DSL Red Sox Red 4
A back-and-forth game ended just short of a Red Sox comeback victory. The scoring started with a Dorian Soto run-scoring triple in the bottom of the first as part of a 2-for-5 outing. After the score was knotted in the third inning, Jhorman Bravo helped the Red Sox retake the lead on an RBI walk in the bottom of the fifth. The lead held until the late innings, where the pitching staff allowed five runs across the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to enter the bottom of the ninth trailing 6-2. The deficit was trimmed to two after an RBI triple by Givian Sirvania followed by a single by Krishan Ulacio to score Sirvania, but could not add on any more to lose. Felix Belisario was charged with a blown save and the loss after allowing two runs across 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.

-----

DSL Dodgers Mega 12, DSL Red Sox Blue 11
Similar to the other DSL contest, the Red Sox trailed late, and its comeback attempt fell short in an action-packed game. The back-and-forth game started with the Red Sox trailing 10-3 after three innings. Team Blue scored two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, but allowed a pair of runs before sparking a comeback in the eighth and ninth that fell a run shy of tying it. Offensively, Christopher Alvarado reached base four times with a pair of walks and pair of hits along with three runs batted in and a stolen base. Stiven De La Cruz went a perfect 4-for-4 and scored three times as part of the attack. The team also drew 11 walks and stole four bases.

Pitching was a struggle for the entire Red Sox staff as they walked 13 batters and hit three more. Jainer Almanza started for the Red Sox and took the loss as he allowed four runs on two hits and four walks.

-----

Player of the Day: Since earning a promotion to Worcester, Blaze Jordan has done nothing but hit. The first baseman went 2 for 4 with a crucial two-run double in the tenth inning to help the WooSox get past Lehigh Valley. In 11 games in Triple-A. Jordan has a .326/.354/.565 slash line with a home run and seven runs driven in. He is currently ranked the 23rd prospect in Boston's system.

Cup of Coffee: Aita dominates in Greenville debut

6/14 Cup of Coffee:
While the major league squad had a thrilling extra-innings win, it was tough going down on the farm. All seven teams were in action, and the only victory came from the DSL Red team at the expense of the DSL Blue squad. The four full-season affiliates combined for just 14 hits. The meager offensive output squandered some excellent pitching, particularly from Blake Aita (pictured), who was dominant in a loss in his Greenville debut. Yhoiker Fajardo also continued his outstanding work in the FCL. He was in line for a win until a crushing walk-off.

-----

Despite only picking up four hits on the day, the WooSox held on tough before getting dispatched by first-place Lehigh Valley in extra innings. Tyler McDonough had half of his team's hits and both of their RBI, going 2 for 4 on the night. A Blaze Jordan double was the only extra-base knock for the WooSox. Starter Jose De Leon went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one, while striking out six. Nick Burdi threw a scoreless sixth as he began his rehab assignment. Alex Hoppe gave up one hit in two scoreless innings of relief, striking out one. Isaiah Campbell pitched a scoreless ninth and was in line for the win after Worcester took a 3-2 lead in the tenth, but Lehigh scored a pair in the bottom of the frame for the walk-off victory.

At the lower levels, John Holobetz and Shea Sprague picked up wins for Greenville and Salem, respectively. -----

Worcester's nine-game winning streak was snapped on Thursday night. Starter Richard Fitts took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts over four innings. Robert Stock tossed a scoreless fifth inning before Brendan Cellucci, Austin Adams, and Jose Adames combined to surrender eight additional runs out of the bullpen. Offensively, all three of Worcester's runs came by way of the long ball. In addition to drawing two walks, Jhostynxon Garcia went 1 for 2 with a two-run blast for his sixth homer at the Triple-A level. Vaughn Grissom went 1 for 4 with a ninth-inning solo shot for his fifth big fly of the season. Cup of Coffee: Tolle strikes out eight in Greenville loss

6/11 Cup of Coffee:
With the Big Three all in Boston, Worcester's new top hitting prospects Jhostynxton Garcia and Blaze Jordan headlined a blowout win for the WooSox. David Sandlin struggled in a Sea Dogs loss while Payton Tolle (pictured) struck out eight in five solid innings but the Drive were unable to pull out the victory. The Salem bullpen was unable to hold onto the lead in a heartbreaking loss. In the Florida Complex League, the Red Sox rode a huge eight-run rally to the win. Dorian Soto and Sadbiel Delzine played well in a pair of wins in the Dominican Summer League.

-----

The WooSox lineup put together an impressive performance against IronPigs starter Andrew Painter, who ranks as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Worcester scored six runs against the right-hander, including a four-run third inning highlighted by a two-run homer by Nate Eaton and an RBI double off the bat of Nathan Hickey. Tyler McDonough added a solo home run in the fourth. Jhostynxton Garcia was 1 for 3 with two walks and two runs scored, pushing his slash line to .352/.395/.606 in 17 games since being promoted to Triple-A. Minor Notes: Number one prospect Roman Anthony called up, makes MLB debut

It was one of the more exciting days for the Red Sox organization in recent years, as their number one prospect was given the call, joining Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell in the show. Another pitching prospect also got the call for the first time.

Roman Anthony makes MLB debut
The top prospect in all of baseball, 21-year old Roman Anthony (pictured, left), was called up by the Red Sox yesterday and made his big league debut. MassLive's Chris Cotillo first floated the call-up as a possibility before MassLive's Katie Morrison O'Day confirmed the news. Anthony took the place of Wilyer Abreu, who was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain. That meant that Anthony was playing right field, a position he had only played four times this year in Triple-A. He hit fifth in the Boston batting order, in front of Campbell and Mayer. Anthony showed off his ability to hit the ball extremely hard in his second at-bat, roping a 111.2 mph line drive off the pitcher. Unfortunately for Anthony, the ball went right to the third baseman, keeping him hitless in his first game. Despite the 0-for-4 debut, he did draw his first career MLB walk, while also driving in his first run.
