2021 MLB First Year Player Draft Picks No. 1-29
The 2021 MLB First Year Player Draft is underway from a new location and date. Formerly hosted at MLB Network's studios in Seacaucus, NJ during mid-June, the draft is now at the site of the MLB All-Star Game in Denver and is now a month later as part of the all-star festivities, with fans invited to attend for the first time. It also has its third different format in the past three years, though 2020's draft was shortened to five rounds due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. This year's edition will feature 20 rounds over three days, rather than the traditional 40-round format seen in 2019 and years prior. As scouts were more easily able to see players this year, the top picks were more evenly distributed between high school and college selections, with five college players and five prep talents taken in the top 10, including Boston's Marcelo Mayer, who was selected No. 4 overall out of Eastlake HS in California.
