Cup of Coffee: Carrasquel rips four hits as DSL Red Sox Red hold division lead
8/6 Cup of Coffee: The DSL season is into its stretch drive with just two weeks of games to go. The DSL Red squad continues to pace their division as Carlos Carrasquel played the hero in an extra-inning win. Their Blue counterparts also were victorious on Monday, though they stand all-but mathematically eliminated from the playoff hunt.

Team Red squandered a 3-0 lead but delivered a pair of runs in the 10th inning to maintain a 2 1/2 game lead in the DSL South Division. Carlos Carrasquel led the way, delivering a vital 10th-inning RBI single as part of a 4-for-5 effort that also included a double and three RBI. Avinson Pinto added a triple and a walk. Yodrian Beltre was excellent in his start, allowing just two hits in four scoreless innings. Anthony Felix got credit for the win, giving up three runs (one earned) in three innings.

Justin Gonzales and Edwin Darville led the way as Tean Blue finished off the sweep. Darville drew a bases-loaded walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win, along with a single and double. Gonzales was also 2 for 3 with a walk. Starter Yoelin Chirino went 3 1/3, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six against two walks. Brahian Rijo got the win in relief, surrendering one run on three hits in three innings.
Player of the Day: It's been an uneven first professional season for Carlos Carrasquel, but his 4-for-5 effort on Monday comes as part of a stretch of improved play. In 10 games since July 4, he has hit .412/.444/.441 with 11 RBI. Carrasquel received a $590,000 bonus out of Venezuela, the second-largest signing bonus given out by Boston during the 2024 signing period.
