Red Sox select Zach Ehrhard with fourth-round pick
With the 115th pick in the 2024 draft, the Red Sox selected Zach Ehrhard, an outfielder from Oklahoma State University. He is ranked #399 in the Baseball America top 500 and #221 in the MLB.com Top 250. Ehrhard was previously drafted by Boston in the 13th round of the 2021 draft out of Paul Wharton High School in Tampa Florida.
Ehrhard was a three-year starter for the Cowboys, posting an impressive .332/.429/.409 line as a freshman before slumping during a sophomore season hampered by a hamstring injury. He rebounded with a solid showing in 2023 with Hyannis in the Cape Cod League before posting an impressive senior season. After recording just 20 extra-base hits during his first two years at OSU, Ehrhard ripped 25 doubles and 14 homers in in junior season, walking 54 times against 36 strikeouts on his way to a .331/.458/.627 slash line.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Ehrhard shows the instincts and range to stick in center field. Showing that the 2024 power surge is sustainable will be a key as he continues his development through the system. He is the brother of Red Sox minor league catcher Drew Ehrhard.
