Cup of Coffee: Binelas, Gonazalez each with multi-homer games

Nick Yorke continued his hot start at Triple-A by going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. He's now hitting .409 with a 1.246 OPS with the WooSox. Mickey Gasper had a big night as well in his third game with Worcester, going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles. He's now 5 for 10 with three walks since being called up. Grant Grambrell started on the mound and tossed five solid innings, allowing just two hits and one run. Isaiah Campbell came on and struck out three of the five hitters he faced in 1 1/3 hitless frames. Chase Shugart gave up a run in his 1 1/3 innings of work, but struck out three.

Kristian Campbell and Alex Binelas went off, each going 4 for 5. Binelas had a whopping nine total bases, with two doubles, a home run, and a single. He drove in four runs as well. Campbell singled three times, doubled, and drove in three runs, raising his OPS to 1.107 in seven games since being promoted to Portland. Roman Anthony was the DH in this one and had a great offensive game as well, going 3 for 5 with his second triple of the year and two runs scored. Kyle Teel was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. Isaac Coffey labored through 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks. He gave up two long balls, but also struck out seven. Jacob Webb tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed and now walks. Helcris Olivarez gave up an unearned run in his lone inning of work, striking out two.

Bryan Gonzalez was locked in last night, going 3 for 4 with two home runs and six RBI. He now has 11 home runs and 32 RBI on the year. Luis Ravelo and Juan Chacon each went 2 for 3 with a walk, as Ravelo roped his ninth double of the season. Cutter Coffey had a big game as well with a double and a home run, while Jhostynxon Garcia crushed his fifth homer of the year. Blake Wehunt made his second Greenville start and allowed four runs on three innings. He allowed just three hits, but two of them were home runs. On the bright side, he punched out six hitters. After Cooper Adams was knocked around for nine runs in just one inning, Isaac Stebens and Cade Feeney had solid outings. Stebens went two innings and struck out five, as he allowed just one run. Feeney also allowed one run in three innings of work with three strikeouts and no walks.

The Sox took this one on the back of two tremendous pitching performances. First up was right-hander Matt Duffy, who went the first five and allowed just one run on three hits. He was very efficient, tossing 68 pitches, 46 for strikes. He punched out six and did not issue a free pass. Danny Kirwin was credited with his second win of the year after four innings of one-hit ball. He did not allow a run, struck out four, and walked just one. Two of the Sox three runs came on solo shots, one from Brooks Brannon and another from Antonio Anderson. Nazzan Zanetello went 1 for 3 with his fourth double of the year and a walk. Andy Lugo added a two-bagger as well.

Edwin Brito picked a great time for his first hit of the season, as his home run in the fourth tied the game at two. Jhoan Peguero also had a nice day at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Enddy Azocar, Miguel Rivera, Carlos Carrasquel, and Anderson Fermin were responsible for the rest of the Sox' six hits, as each picked up a single. Charlie Zink started on the mound and allowed a run in two innings with two strikeouts. Merlin Bido was terrific for three innings out of the bullpen, surrendering just one run on two hits with four strikeouts and no free passes. Yander Bonaci was credited with the win after he tossed two shutout innings, and Greider Colina collected his second save with three strikeouts and one run allowed over the final two frames.

The Sox entered the eighth inning down by two, but a four-run rally propelled them to a win. Jhiancarlos Diaz led the charge by going 3 for 5 with a game-tying RBI single in that eighth inning. Liosward Marin had a big day as well, reaching base four times with a single, a double, and two walks. He knocked in a pair. Second baseman Edwin Darville also reached base four times, as he doubled, drew three walks, and swiped three bases. Moises Bolivar went 2 for 5 with a double, and Ilan Fernandez singled twice and walked. Dalvinson Reyes was the standout on the mound, as he threw the first four innings without allowing a run. He gave up just two hits, struck out five, and did not walk a batter. Gibel Galvan tossed 1 2/3 hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts, and Enrique Carta notched the save in dominant fashion, striking out all four batters he faced.

Player of the Day: Bryan Gonzalez had a season-high nine totals bases and a new career-high in RBI with six. After posting a .252/.317/.404 slash line last year in 110 games for Greenville, Gonzalez is back again in 2024 with the Drive. So far this season, his power has been impressive, as he has already matched last year's home run total with 11 in 71 fewer games. He is slugging .521 and has an .813 OPS in 2024.
