Cup of Coffee: Abreu smacks two homers in Worcester; Anthony also goes deep in Portland

In the second game of his rehab assignment, Wilyer Abreu went 2 for 5 with two solo homers. In his first game back with Worcester since making his major-league debut, Jamie Westbrook went 2 for 3 with a two-run double, a three-run home run, and two walks. Nick Sogard also doubled, tripled, drove in a run, and stole a base as part of a 2-for-4 night. Chase Meidroth went 1 for 3 with one RBI, one run scored, and one walk out of the leadoff spot.
Josh Winckowski picked up the win in his second straight quality start for the WooSox. The righty scattered six hits, issued two walks, plunked a batter, and struck out four over six scoreless innings. He finished with 85 pitches (53 strikes) and elicited six swings-and-misses. Isaiah Campbell and Sal Romano were each tagged for two runs out of the bullpen.

Three members of Portland's starting lineup recorded two hits. Roman Anthony went 2 for 3 with his seventh home run of the season and two walks out of the leadoff spot. Marcelo Mayer went 2 for 3 with his 25th double of the year and one RBI before being replaced defensively by Karson Simas in the seventh inning. Tyler McDonough doubled in two runs and scored another.
Robert Kwiatkowski suffered his first loss in his first start of the season for the Sea Dogs. The righty surrendered five earned runs on three hits, two walks, and one strikeout over 1 2/3 innings. Caleb Bolden and Brendan Cellucci were both hit hard out of the bullpen. Wyatt Olds struck out three across 2 2/3 frames of one-run ball while catcher Matt Donlan worked a scoreless ninth inning in his second relief outing of the year.

Cutter Coffey extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 2 for 4 with an RBI double and a run scored. Jhostynxon Garcia, who scored twice, and Juan Chacon each went 2 for 4 as well. Allan Castro and Ronald Rosario both doubled for their only hits of the night. Hayden Mullins got the start on the mound and allowed only one earned run on one hit, zero walks, one hit batter, and one strikeout over four innings. Bryce Bonnin and Nathan Landry combined to surrender five runs while Cade Feeney tossed 1 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.

Luis Cohen took the loss in his start for Salem, yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits, four walks, and three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings. Michael Sansone took over out of the bullpen and struck out four across 4 2/3 scoreless, no-hit frames. On the flip side, a fifth-inning single from Marvin Alcantara was the only offense the Red Sox could muster on Wednesday as they sent just 28 batters to the plate in a game that took one hour and 50 minutes to complete.

Player of the Day: Though he graduated from his prospect status last month, Wilyer Abreu gets the nod here for cranking a pair of solo shots in Worcester's win over Columbus. The rehabbing 24-year-old played all nine innings in right field on Wednesday after serving as the DH the night prior. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain on June 4 but is expected to rejoin the big-league club during their upcoming series in Cincinnati at some point this weekend.
