Cup of Coffee: Barraclough strikes out 11; Valdez homers for Worcester
8/19 Cup of Coffee: The lower minors dealt with a lot of rain, but the full-season leagues all got their games in. Kyle Barraclough was dominant in Worcester, and Enmanuel Valdez (pictured) gave him all the run support he needed. Isaac Coffey had a rare rough outing for Portland, while Allan Castro tried his best to carry his team the victory.

Kyle Barraclough improved to 8-0 by striking out 11 over 6 2/3 innings. He gave up one run on two hits and threw 61 of his 99 pitches for strikes. Joe Jacques added 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Justin Garza worked around three walks in the ninth to get the save. The WooSox had only three hits, with a two-run shot from Enmanuel Valdez accounting for most of the damage. Valdez also singled, as did Wilyer Abreu.

Isaac Coffey tied a season high by allowing six runs in a loss to the Rumble Ponies. Coffey struck out seven, walked two, allowed six hits, and hit two batters. On offense, Blaze Jordan went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Tyler McDonough went 2 for 4 with a triple, and Tyler Esplin went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI.

This game was 1-1 after nine innings, but after each team scored three times in the 10th, the Dash walked it off in the 11th. Zach Penrod twirled five scoreless innings in his system debut, walking four and striking out two. Nate Tellier allowed a walk and a single in the 11th that ended the game. Allan Castro had two of the team's biggest hits, connecting on a solo home run in the sixth and an RBI single in the 10th. Max Ferguson laced an RBI triple, and Eduardo Lopez went 1 for 3 with a double and two walks.

It was a rough start for Cristian Nunez, who allowed six runs on eight hits over four innings. Luis Talavera and Jhonny Felix followed with two innings apiece, with Felix not allowing a hit. Johnfrank Salazar and Albert Feliz led the offense, with Salazar going 2 for 4 with a double, and Feliz going 2 for 4 with an RBI. A single from Natanael Yuten was the team's only other hit.

The Red Sox managed only one hit as they were shut out by the Twins. Stanley Tucker hit a leadoff single, and then the team combined to go 0 for 22. Hayden Mullins made his professional debut as he works back from Tommy John surgery. He allowed one run in his lone inning. 2023 draft picks Blake Wehunt, CJ Weins, and Cade Feeney all worked scoreless innings in their first professional appearances.
The second game of the planned doubleheader was postponed and will be made up on Saturday.

The Pirates were leading 3-2 in the third inning when the game got suspended. It will be completed on August 21.

Player of the Day: 11 strikeouts from Kyle Barraclough stifled the RailRiders offense. The well-traveled 33-year-old appeared in two games for Boston against Detroit, allowing one run over 3 1/3. He lowered his Triple-A ERA to 2.40 on Friday, with 39 strikes and 21 walks over 48 2/3 innings.
