Minor Notes: Sox sign 18 draft picks, including first rounder Kyle Teel
Teel, Zanetello, 16 others ink deals with Sox
The Red Sox have reached agreements on deals with 18 of their 22 draft picks, including each of their first five selections. For reference, Boston signed 19 of their 21 picks last year and 16 of their 20 picks in 2021. The team was able to go under slot for the first pick for the second straight year, as Kyle Teel signed for $4,000,000, which is $663,100 under slot value. They were able to go over slot for each of their next two picks, as high schoolers Nazzan Zanetello and Antonio Anderson signed for $3,000,000 and $1,500,000, respectively. Justin Reimer, a shortstop from Wright State, is the only pick from the first 10 rounds who has not signed yet. Phoenix Call (Round 15), Dylan Schlaegel (Round 17), and Robert Orloski (Round 20) are the other three picks who have yet to sign.

Rafaela (pictured, top) continued his hot stretch with Worcester last week, especially in the power department. Since getting called up the the WooSox at the end of June, Rafaela is hitting .305/.352/.646 in 19 games. He already has six home runs, which matches his total in 60 games with the Sea Dogs. He has mostly played center field, as 15 of his 19 games with the team have come in center, while four have come at shortstop. Overall in 2023, between Portland and Worcester, the 22-year-old is hitting .297 with 24 doubles, two triples, and 12 home runs.

Reyes back in majors
With Pablo Reyes' 20-day rehab window coming to a close, the Red Sox had a decision to make. The ultimately decided to activate Reyes and add him back to the big league squad while optioning Brandon Walter and Justin Garza to Worcester. Garza had a 7.36 ERA in 18 games with Boston, while Walter posted a very solid 3.02 ERA over 14 2/3 frames during his first stint in the majors. The lefty had nine strikeouts and four walks. Reyes provided some much-needed help at shortstop before his injury, batting .303 with a .702 OPS and playing solid defense. He also had an .887 OPS over 11 games during his rehab stint.

The Red Sox made an interesting signing yesterday, inking 18-year old Chansol Lee to a deal. He is out of high school in Korea and was expected to go in the first round of the upcoming KBO draft. Keagan Stiefel of NESN.com wrote more about the signing here. Here is some video as well from Tyler Milliken. Lee tops out at 95 MPH according to reports.

He is also third in the league among qualified pitchers in batting average against, as batters are hitting just .202 against him this year. In four July starts, Bastardo has a 1.13 ERA with 36 strikeouts and just five walks over 24 innings. He has gone at least six innings in three consecutive starts for the first time in his minor league career, and the seven innings on Friday are a new career-high.
