Cup of Coffee: Hamilton, Meidroth homer; Gonzalez strikes out nine

5/3 Cup of Coffee: It was a great day for offense, as Worcester scored nine runs, Salem scored 12 runs, and Greenville picked up 16 knocks. David Hamilton (pictured) had another huge game at the plate to lead Worcester to a win. Chase Meidroth also had three hits for Greenville in their win. The Drive also got a great outing from Wikelman Gonzalez.

Worcester Red Sox 9, Buffalo Bisons (TOR) 8
David Hamilton continued his tremendous season, leading the way on offense with a 4-for-5 performance. The shortstop homered for the fifth time this year and added a double and two runs scored. Ryan Fitzgerald also had a big night with an RBI single and a two-run triple. Jorge Alfaro chipped in as well with a couple of hits. The Sox were running in this one too, swiping six bases, including a pair from Alfaro and Greg Allen. Niko Goodrum and Bobby Dalbec had steals as well. Chris Murphy got the start on the mound and was hit around, surrendering seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings on seven hits and four walks. Taylor Broadway followed him with a scoreless 1 2/3 innings before Oddanier Mosqueda tossed a clean frame of his own. Andrew Politi picked up a four-out save as well without allowing a hit.

Greenville Drive 5, Asheville Tourists (HOU) 1
Six of the nine Greenville starters collected at least two hits, as the Drive reached 16 hits as a team. Chase Meidroth had his second three-hit day of the season by going 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBI. He is now hitting .345 with a .999 OPS on the season. Bryan Gonzalez also had three hits, including an RBI triple in the fourth inning to get Greenville on the board first. Marcelo Mayer had two hits as well, while Max Ferguson ripped a couple of doubles. Wikelman Gonzalez was terrific on the bump, allowing just one run and three hits over five innings to go along with nine strikeouts. The nine punchouts tied a career-high for Gonzalez, having done it three other times in his career. The Drive bullpen was awesome as well, as Jordan DiValerio and Maceo Campbell each threw two scoreless innings, with DiValerio striking out three and Campbell fanning four.

Salem Red Sox 12, Fayetteville Woodpeckers (HOU) 2
Luis Ravelo had a huge day at the plate, driving in a career-high five runs. The 19-year-old had a two-run single as well as a three-run double. Lyonell James and Karson Simas each went 2 for 5, while Cutter Coffey walked twice, doubled, and scored three runs. Ronald Rosario had a two-run triple as well. Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz started and was solid, tossing five innings of two-run ball to pick up his second win of the year. He allowed just three hits and one walk. Caleb Bolden came on and struck out three in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Felix Cepeda and Marques Johnson finished it out with a scoreless frame each.

Player of the Day: David Hamilton picks up another Player of the Day honor with his four-hit game. Even in the middle of this great season, Hamilton managed to have season-highs in hits and total bases last night. He has reached 90 plate appearances this year and is up to a .311/.376/.556 slash line with 14 stolen bases.
