Cup of Coffee: Duran, Mieses, and Davis homer for Worcester


9/26 Cup of Coffee: Home runs were flying out of Polar Park on Sunday, but Worcester ended up on the losing end of the battle. A grand slam in the ninth inning was the winning hit for Syracuse. Jarren DuranJohan Mieses (pictured), and Jaylin Davis were the offensive stars for the WooSox.

The WooSox hit three home runs in their home finale, but it was not enough to topple the Mets. Jarren DuranJohan Mieses, and Jaylin Davis all hit solo home runs, with Mieses and Davis each adding singles. Enmanuel Valdez went 3 for 5, and Deivy Grullón went 1 for 3 with a walk. 

The game was tied going into the ninth, but the Mets got to Caleb Simpson for four runs on a two-out grand slam. Starter Kyle Hart went the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Jake Thompson had the most success, striking out three over 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Player of the Day: Johan Mieses went 2 for 3 with a home run, single, and a walk. His OPS rose to an even .900 over 58 games. The 27-year-old has played more regularly in September, and he has turned that into a .265/.386/.514 slash line.
