Red Sox select Caleb Bolden with seventh-round pick
With its seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft, Boston has selected Caleb Bolden, a right-handed pitcher out of Texas Christian University.
Bolden is a fifth-year senior who spent his first four seasons at the University of Arkansas. He underwent Tommy John surgery with the Razorbacks and missed the 2019 season. He pitched just 16 innings in 2020 as the season ended early due to the pandemic. In 2022 with TCU, Bolden pitched to a 6.23 ERA over 39 innings. The Red Sox are projected to get some cap savings with Bolden as he will likely get an under-slot deal.
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Bolden was previously drafted out of high school in the 16th round of the 2017 draft by Tampa Bay. His fastball reportedly sits at 91-93 mph, and he has a low-80s slider.
