Cup of Coffee: Potts leads Portland, Greenville wins in 12
9/17 Cup of Coffee: The Sea Dogs offense came alive with 14 runs, led by a big night from Hudson Potts (pictured). Greenville grabbed a win in 12 innings, thanks to 19 strikeouts from the pitching staff, including a terrific start from Brandon Walter. Both DSL Sox teams also saw a few standout offensive performances.

Worcester tied the game with a pair of runs in the ninth, but it wasn't enough. Josh Ockimey had a solid night, going 1 for 3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. Chad De La Guerra also went 1 for 3 with a double and added a walk and a stolen base. Johan Mieses also doubled. Kutter Crawford was solid, going the first 5 1/3 while allowing two runs with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Zack Kelly and Durbin Feltman each gave up a run in three combined frames.

Hudson Potts led the offensive explosion from Portland, going 3 for 4 with his 18th double and 10th home run. He drove in three and also took a walk. Ronaldo Hernandez and Tyreque Reed also had big nights, each going 2 for 5 with four RBI. Hernandez tripled and Reed doubled. Devlin Granberg added three hits, while Ryan Fitzgerald, Cameron Cannon, and Pedro Castellanos each had two knocks. Brayan Bello had a solid outing, allowing a run over five innings. He struck out six and walked three. Rio Gomez and Dominic LoBrutto each tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout, while Matthew Kent struck out three in two innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs.
Unfortunately, Thursday's win by Somerset (NYY) eliminated the Sea Dogs from playoff contention.

Greenville scored three of their four runs after the eighth inning, finally securing the win after Jaxx Groshans' game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning. Wil Dalton had a big game with three hits, including a double. Tyler Dearden also doubled, singled, and walked. Brandon Walter was tremendous, allowing just a run in five innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. He allowed just two hits. Ryan Fernandez, Brendan Cellucci, and Brendan Nail each went two innings, with Fernandez and Nail striking out three and Celucci striking out a pair. Oddanier Mosqueda picked up his third save by striking out the side, giving the Greenville staff 19 strikeouts on the night.

Wyatt Olds made his third start of the year and allowed just a run in three innings with four strikeouts and two free passes. Robert Kwiatkowski was also good, tossing three scoreless frames with one strikeout and no walks. Alexander Montero and Devon Roedahl struggled, as Montero allowed a run on three hits in his lone inning, while Roedahl gave up four runs in 2 2/3 innings. The Sox had just five hits, highlighted by Brainer Bonaci's two-run double.
The loss moves the Sox into a tie with the Down East Wood Ducks (TEX) for the Low-A East's second playoff spot with three games remaining. Both teams sport a 70-47 record.

Jhostynxon Garcia had a huge game at the plate, going 3 for 5 with a double, a triple, and five RBI. He now has a .960 OPS this year. Lyonell James and Armando Sierra each went 2 for 4 with a double, knocking in three runs combined. Barbaro Pinero started and allowed a run in three innings, striking out four and walking a pair. Irving Medina, Robinson Parra, and Railin Perez each went two innings, with Parra having the only scoreless outing. He struck out two and walked none.

Luis Ravelo led the way in this one, going 3 for 4 with a walk. The bottom three hitters in the order, Ahbram Liendo, Frank Astacio, and Miguel Rojas, each went 2 for 4, with Rojas belting his first long ball of the year. Cesar Ruiz started the game with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, no walks, and striking out two. Andres Ortuno dominated out of the bullpen, not allowing a run in 3 1/3 innings, surrendering just one hit, striking out four, and walking none.

Player of the Day: Hudson Potts has had a down year for Portland, but he came alive last night with a pair of extra-base hits. The slugger acquired last season for Mitch Moreland is hitting .221/.270/.401 this year with 18 doubles and 10 home runs. He has had a very good September, hitting .289/.333/.553 so far in 10 games.
