Fall/Winter League Roundup: Reyes throws 5 more shutout frames; Pereda heats up in VZ

The fall/winter leagues have been going on for a few weeks, but COVID-19 factors have resulted in the cancellation of the Arizona Fall League as well as several games across the various winter leagues. Coverage of the winter leagues will continue every Monday into January. For the full list of Red Sox prospects participating in these leagues, check out our
Fall & Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through January. This week's roundup covers the period up to December 6.

Dominican Professional Baseball League

Headlining the performances this week was Denyi Reyes, who pitched five shutout innings for Escogido, allowing just two hits. He struck out two batters and now has a WHIP of 0.46 on the year while not allowing a run over three starts. Joel Payamps also did not allow a run, delivering three scoreless frames across two appearances with two hits against two strikeouts. Raynel Espinal appeared in two games, delivering 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed six baserunners on three hits and three walks while striking out one batter for Gigantes. Deivy Grullon did not fare well at the plate, hitting 1 for 11 across three games with four strikeouts. Johan Mieses played in just one game for Este with an 0-for-2 contest.

Mexican Pacific League

Joey Meneses, who is playing for Culiacan, spent time at first base, third base, right field, and designated hitter last week, but stayed in the middle of the lineup. He hit 8 for 22 with a pair of walks and earned a hit in each of his six games.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League

Jhonny Pereda (pictured, right) had a solid week for Caracas, going 8 for 20 with a double and three walks across six games. Pereda spent time at both first base and catcher and had a 3-for-3 day on December 5 with an RBI double. Oddanier Mosquera struggled on the mound for Anzoategui, getting two appearances in on the week. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits. He recorded one walk against two strikeouts.

National Professional Baseball League (Nicaragua)

The comeback trail from Tommy John surgery for Roniel Raudes got a bit bumpier this week. The right-hander, who had posted a 4.00 ERA in nine innings across four appearances in his first game action since his June 2018 injury that led to January 2019 surgery, apparently had his season ended early by further health issues. Raudes has been ranked as high as 8th on the SoxProspects.com rankings, back in 2017, and gained some notoriety for his unique pre-pitch motion.

Nixson Munoz, who is pitching for Boer, threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in an 8-6 loss against Gigantes on December 2. He recorded three strikeouts against two hits.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)

As was mentioned last week, the Puerto Rican league will start tomorrow, December 8, and will be one to keep an eye on with Jarren Duran, ranked No. 4 in the SoxProspects.com rankings, playing for Caguas.

Colombian Professional Baseball League

Rivaldo Avila did not appear in a game over the first week of play for Monteria.
