Fall/Winter League Roundup: Tobias stays hot, Arauz has big week in Panama

We continue our weekly roundups of the Fall and Winter Leagues, highlighting performances from players in the Red Sox organization. Coverage will continue every Monday into January. For the full list of Red Sox prospects participating in these leagues, check out our Fall & Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through January. This week's roundup covers the period of December 23 through 29.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)
It was a quiet week for Red Sox prospects as the playoffs wrapped up in Puerto Rico, with only Rusney Castillo and Josh Tobias making appearances. Castillo appeared in five games for Caguas, making 17 at-bats but only notching three hits (one double) and striking out twice. Tobias collected three hits in eight at-bats, but struck out as many times as he continued his strong winter campaign. Additionally Tobias and Castillo both drove in a run and walked during the weeks action.

Mexican Pacific League
With the regular season winding down, no Red Sox prospects made appearances this week in the Mexican Pacific League. Hector Velasquez has been the most active of the Red Sox representatives in Mexico, but was rested this week as Navojoa prepare for the playoffs.

Dominican Winter League
There was little action for Red Sox prospects this week in the Dominican Winter League, as teams came back from their holiday break and began the first round of the playoffs. Marco Hernandez, Jhon Nunez and Domingo Tapia are still on their respective teams active rosters, but only Hernandez has made an appearance in the playoffs thus far. The infielder started as the DH in the opening game of the playoffs, but went 0 for 3 with a strikeout and has not made an appearance since.

Australian Baseball League
Red Sox free agent signing Colin Willis continued to bat in the heart of Melbourne's line-up this week, although this was a quiet week by the outfielder's standards. Willis made seven at-bats across three games, notching a pair of hits and striking out twice. The Gary, Indiana native has put up a sorching .395/.481/.465 line across 17 games thus far in Australia, good for an impressive .946 OPS.

Panama Winter League
The recently acquired Jonathan Arauz continued to represent the Red Sox well in Panama this week. Arauz appeared in all three games for the Aguilas, collecting four hits (including two doubles) across 13 trips to the plate. The Rule 5 Draftee's best game came on Monday when he laced a double as part of  a three hit night. Arauz has not had the easiest time in Panama this winter, but has recently rounded into form and continued to limit his strikeouts.
