Fall/Winter League Roundup: Rivera gets hot, Castillo debuts


We continue our weekly roundups of the Fall and Winter Leagues, highlighting performances from players in the Red Sox organization. Coverage will continue every Monday into January. For the full list of Red Sox prospects participating in these leagues, check out our Fall & Winter Leagues page, which will be updated continuously through January. This week's roundup covers the period of December 2 to December 7.


Dominican Baseball League
Marco Hernandez had a very solid week, going 5 for 13 with a double, two RBI, and two runs. His week included a 4-for-6 showing at the plate on Thursday. Domingo Tapia got into one game on the mound, tossing two frames and giving up a solo home run. He walked none and struck out one hitter.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)
Jeremy Rivera (pictured) was on fire this past week, going 8 for 16 with a pair of two-baggers, three runs, two RBI, two walks, and just two strikeouts. Jantzen Witte went 4 for 18 with a run scored and Alan Marrero struggled again, going just 1 for 10 with five strikeouts. Edgar Corcino, Matthew Lugo, and Sam Travis each appeared in one game and combined to go 0 for 9 from the plate. Rusney Castillo made his Roberto Clemente League debut, appearing in four games and going 2 for 14 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Mexican Pacific League
Hector Velazquez appeared in a pair of games and logged just 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (zero earned) on one hit with one strikeout and two walks. These two outings were the first two relief outings for Velazquez this winter. 

Australian Baseball League
Colin Willis had a 2-for-6 week to keep his season batting average at .450. He's 9 for 20 with three walks this winter, giving him an OBP of .522.
