Fall/Winter League Roundup: Dalbec powers Team USA split, Houck fans six
We continue our weekly roundups of the Fall and Winter Leagues, highlighting performances from players in the Red Sox organization. Coverage will continue every Monday into January. WBSC Premier 12 Tournament
The flagship tournament of the World Baseball and Softball confederation kicked off this week, with Team USA being the only team to carry any Red sox minor leaguers. The red white and blue split their opening contests of the group stage, defeating the Netherlands and losing to Mexico respectively. Despite the mixed results for the team as a whole, the Red Sox representatives had a solid start to the tournament.
To the surprise of no one, Bobby Dalbec got things started with a bang homering in each of the first two games. Thus far in the tournament, Dalbec leads Team USA in both hits and RBI while also leading the tournament in home runs. Joining Dalbec in the infield, CJ Chatham has also looked solid as he's singled in both of the Team USA's games to start the tournament.
On the mound, Noah Song appeared out of the bullpen in the USA's dismantling of the Netherlands; firing a scoreless inning as part of the shut out. Tanner Houck got the nod for Game 2 and put in an uneven performance. The right-hander was roughed up in the first inning before settling down nicely before eventually surrendering an unearned run in the fifth. Houck finished the game with three runs (two earned) to his name, but promisingly struck out six and didn't allow a walk.
