Cup of Coffee: Mata, Dalbec, and Duran lead Portland

Pawtucket Red Sox 7, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (PHI) 3
A three-run home run from Rusney Castillo and a strong outing from Kyle Hart pushed the PawSox to victory. The home run was Castillo's 13th of the season as he has approaches his career-high of 15 hit in 2017. The PawSox also got home runs from Josh Ockimey, his 18th of the season, and Oscar Hernandez, his fourth of the season. The home run was Ockimey's first in 60 plate appearances as he has been mired in a long slump that he has shown signs of breaking out of recently. Marco Hernandez had two more hits as he continues to swing a hot bat.

Bobby Dalbec and Jarren Duran drove in seven of Portland's runs as they tripled up the Flying Squirrels. Dalbec went 3 for 5 with a triple and an RBI, while Duran went 2 for 4 with three RBI and a run scored. Duran extended his hitting streak to nine games, while Dalbec snapped his streak of eight straight games with a strikeout.
On the mound Bryan Mata did enough to win as he moved to 2-3 with Portland. Mata struck out eight and walked two over five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. The eight strikeouts tied a season-high, and he now has 88 in 82 innings. Dedgar Jimenez got the save as her fired two shutout innings, striking out two.

Thaddeus Ward struck out seven over five innings, but he was touched up for four runs (three earned) while walking three. It was only the fourth time in 20 games this season that Ward gave up more than two runs in an appearance. Zach Schellenger struck out four of the five batters he faced, and Dominic LoBrutto allowed the winning run to score on a walk-off bunt single.
Nick Lovullo drove in two runs with two doubles, and Victor Acosta went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk.

Lowell Spinners 6, Brooklyn Cyclones (NYM) 2 (Game One)
Marino Campana was on base three times and Ryan Fernandez improved to 3-0 as Lowell took the first game of the doubleheader. Campana went 3 for 3, stole three bases, and had an outfield assist for the Spinners. Jaxx Groshans also had three hits, while Gilberto Jimenez and Cameron Cannon each doubled. Fernandez allowed one run and struck out five over 4 1/3 innings, and the run was the first he surrendered in six appearances in July. Ryan Zeferjahn was pulled after throwing 32 pitches and recording only two outs as he walked three and allowed one run, and Kris Jackson got his sixth save with two shutout innings to close the game out.
Lowell Spinners 4, Brooklyn Cyclones 3 (Game Two)
The Cyclones fell apart in the final innings, allowing Kervin Suarez to score on a four-base error that started as a groundball to the pitcher, and then Alex Erro scored Samuel Miranda on a sacrifice fly after Miranda doubled and then moved to third on an error. Kelvin Sanchez went three innings and allowed one run with five strikeouts, and Hildemaro Requena earned his fourth win by firing three scoreless innings. In addition to Miranda, Erro and Cannon each doubled for the Spinners.

The Red Sox pitching held to Orioles to just three hits and at one point retired 14 batters in a row. Gregorio Reyes was outstanding, striking out three and allowing just three hits over five innings. Yoelvis Guedez was even better as he did not allow a baserunner over three innings, striking out three, and Dylan Spacke finished off the shutout with a scoreless ninth. Guedez, an 18-year-old out of Venezuela, has not allowed a run over his last 12 1/3 innings and his ERA now sits at 2.29 with 22 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings.
Second-round pick Matthew Lugo continued to play well, going 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. He has been especially hot over the last 10 games, batting .385. Joseph Monge went 0 for 2 with a walk in his first game action sine May 10 as he starts his rehab assignment, and Danny Diaz went 1 for 4 with a walk, his first walk since July 4.

Eduardo Lopez and a balanced offensive attack pushed the Red Sox past the Athletics. Lopez went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk while also swiping his 13th bag. Lopez has not hit for much power this season, but he has turned things around after a slow start, and his on-base percentage is .393 over his last 19 games. Darel Belen went 2 for 5 with his fourth home run of the year as the 19-year-old raised his OPS to .820.
Starter Angel Bastardo was hurt by a three-run second inning, but he was otherwise solid in his four innings. The win went to Jesus Rosillo who struck out four over two hitless innings as he improved to 4-1.

On Tuesday night he went 3 for 3 with three stolen bases and an outfield assist as he had a tremendous all-around performance. The three hits tied a season-high, though his .229 average still has room for improvement.
