Cup of Coffee: Cannon belts first home run
7/27 Cup of Coffee: The system saw another doubleheader on Friday, this time for Lowell. In game two of the double dip, Cameron Cannon hit his first home run as a member of the Red Sox organization. Bobby Dalbec hit number 20 for Portland, while Chris Owings homered again for the PawSox. Pedro Castellanos also walked it off for Salem.

Chris Owings homered yet again, as he has now gone yard in an incredible six consecutive games. He also added a double and drove in four runs. Marco Hernandez went 3 for 4 with a double, while Gorkys Hernandez picked up two hits as well. Ryan Weber walked five, but managed to keep the damage down, surrendering just one unearned run in four innings of work. Brian Johnson was awesome in three innings out of the bullpen, striking out six without allowing a run.

Bobby Dalbec belted is 20th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning to tie it at two. Jeremy Rivera gave the Sox the lead in the eighth with an RBI single to score Tate Matheny, who went 2 for 3 with his 15 double. Jarren Duran also singled, walked, and stole his 15th base. Matthew Kent was very good to start, allowing just two runs (one earned) in six innings with five strikeouts. Dedgar Jimenez was tremendous out of the bullpen, striking out five without allowing a walk or a hit in 2 2/3 innings. Kevin Lenik picked up the save by facing one batter and striking him out.

Pedro Castellanos provided the heroics with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. Edgar Corcino had a huge game, going 3 for 4 with a three-run home run. Keith Curcio smacked a triple and Charlie Madden collected two hits. Daniel Gonzalez started and surrendered four runs in six innings with just two strikeouts. Dominic LoBrutto grabbed the win with a scoreless ninth.

It was a quiet night for Greenville, as they had just four singles. Alan Marrero had two hits while Triston Casas picked up a knock. Alex Scherff was solid, tossing the first six innings while give up two runs on nine hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Devon Fisher had three strikeouts and no walks in 1 2/3 innings.

A three-run third was all Lowell needed, as Kervin Suarez went 2 for 3 with his first home run of the year out of the number nine spot. Elih Marrero also added a double and scored a run. Yusniel Padron-Artiles pitched well, allowing just one unearned run in six innings of work with five strikeouts to lower his ERA to 2.30. Osvaldo De La Rosa picked up the save.

Cameron Cannon, Boston's first selection of the 2019 draft, blasted his first professional home run. The shortstop drove in two and added a walk. Joe Davis, Wil Dalton, and Jonathan Diaz each had two hits, with Diaz collected his second triple of the year. Gilberto Jimenez also doubled and swiped a bag. Yasel Santana labored through four innings, allowing five hits and four walks, but limited the damage to three runs. Brendan Dellucci picked up the win with a scoreless inning, while Ryan Fernandez grabbed his third save by getting six outs, two via the strikeout.

Oscar Rangel had a big night at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored. Second round pick Matthew Lugo also played well with a double, a triple, a stolen base, and three runs. Ceddanne Rafaela added three knocks and Bramdon Perez went 2 for 4 with a double. Seventh round pick Brock Bell started and went two innings, allowing the first run of his professional career. Brandon Walter, Eddie Jimenez, and Devon Roedahl each three a scoreless inning and combined for five strikeouts.

Eight of nine Sox starters had at least one hit, while seven of nine scored at least once, but it wasn't enough. Imanol Contreras had a double, while Darel Belen and Miguel Rojas each hit triples. Belen already has five three-base hits this year. Gabriel Jackson started and struggled, giving up six earned runs in just three innings. Carlos Velez was solid in relief, striking out three and walking none in three scoreless frames.

Railin Perez started for the Sox and gave up just two hits in three innings, but allowed three runs (one earned). Andres Ortuno struggled, taking the loss and surrendering five runs (four earned) in three innings. Denny Daza and Moises Barajas each collected two hits, with Daza roping a double and Barajas belting a three-bagger.

Player of the Night: Chris Owings has produced big time for Pawtucket since being signed on June 17. The 27-year old has a 1.009 OPS in 31 games for the PawSox, with nine long balls and 27 RBI. He appeared in 40 games for the Kansas City Royals this year.
