Cup of Coffee: Bello strikes out 13 over six innings

Pawtucket Red Sox 7, Buffalo Bisons (TOR) 5 (10 innings)
Oscar Hernandez launched a walk-off two-run home run with two outs in the 10th inning to win it for the PawSox. Pawtucket was down by two entering the ninth, and they ultimately tied the game with two outs when Tzu-Wei Lin scored on a wild pitch. Hernandez provided the fireworks in the 10th, and Sam Travis hit a two-run home run earlier in the night. Travis has been hot to start July, with his current line sitting at .342/.400/.553.
Starter Teddy Stankiewicz went the first five innings while allowing three runs, and he was followed by Mike Shawaryn, who gave up a two-run shot in his two innings. Shawaryn has now given up 17 runs over his last 8 1/3 innings, including his eight-run outing in London against the Yankees. The win went to Travis Lakins, who did not allow a hit over two scoreless innings.

Portland Sea Dogs 7, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NYM) 3
A 14-hit attack led by C.J. Chatham paced Portland on Saturday. Chatham finished the night going 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI to raise his average to .312. Bobby Dalbec went 2 for 5 with two singles and no strikeouts in a rather uncharacteristic game for him, and Jarren Duran went 1 for 4 with a walk and two steals. Duran is hitting .300 over his last 10 games, but he has still not shown the same power since being promoted to Portland.
That offense was more than enough for Denyi Reyes, who tossed the first six innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits. Dedgar Jimenez worked around three hits to fire two scoreless innings in relief. Reyes has now thrown at least six innings in each of his last nine starts.

Dylan Hardy scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning after Salem rallied for four runs in the ninth to come back and stun the Keys. Salem used four hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch to tie the game in the ninth, with Garrett Benge's two-run single being the key hit in the inning. Benge finished the night 3 for 3 with two walks, and Marcus Wilson went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Rio Gomez and Algenis Martinez combined to shut Frederick out over 6 1/3 innings of relief after Dylan Thompson was rocked for six runs (five earned) over 2 2/3 innings. Gomez continues to impress as his ERA dropped to 2.03 with Salem, and 1.58 on the season.

The story of the night was Brayan Bello, who struck out 13 without walking a batter over six shutout innings. There was plenty of buzz on Bello coming into the season, but he struggled initially on his aggressive assignment in Greenville. Starts like Saturday's show the potential Bello has and why the organization was so high on him after spring training.
Lexington scored a run in both the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game, but the Drive broke the game open in the 10th, with the third run of the inning scoring on a squeeze bunt by Grant Williams. Leadoff hitter Cole Brannen went 3 for 6 with an RBI, and Kole Cottam went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk.

A three-run home run from Nick Decker in the third inning pushed the Spinners past Auburn. The home run was the second of the year for Decker as he went 1 for 3. Stephen Scott went 2 for 4 with a double, and Nicholas Northcut went 2 for 4 with a run scored. A quality start from Yusniel Padron-Artilles pushed his record up to 4-0, as he allowed three runs over six innings. He only struck out four, but he has still notched 56 over his last 49 innings.

A lock-down performance from the bullpen helped the Red Sox close out the Twins. After starter Felix Cepeda allowed one run over 2 2/3 innings, a trio of relievers came on and had strong performances. Brandon Walter picked up his first professional win by going 3 1/3 innings, striking out five while allowing three hits. Mason Duke followed with two strikeouts in his two scoreless innings, and Devon Roedahl earned the save with a scoreless ninth.
The offense managed only four hits, one of which was the first professional hit for first-round pick Cameron Cannon. Cannon finished the game 1 for 3, and the Red Sox scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning when Caleb Ramsey scored on a passed ball.

Player of the Night: Brayan Bello was dominant, striking out 13 over six innings. Bello started the season as a 19-year-old in the South Atlantic League, and he has had a lot of growing pains as he faces older competition. Bello entered the night with a 7.45 ERA, but he put it all together on Saturday night. Bello now has 73 strikeouts over 69 2/3 innings and also has the best groundball ratio on the Drive, so the pieces are certainly there for him to turn his season around.
