Cup of Coffee: Wilson homers twice, Jimenez continues to rake
6/23 Cup of Coffee: It was a night full of fireworks for the Red Sox system as four affiliates came home victorious Saturday night. In Salem, Marcus Wilson (pictured) brought the power with a pair of home runs, and Andrew Politi was dominant in relief to earn a Red Sox win. Gilberto Jimenez kept on rolling for Lowell with another productive game at the plate, and Teddy Stankiewicz highlighted a shutout in Pawtucket.

It was an up and down start for Denyi Reyes, who struck out six but allowed nine hits en route to surrendering four runs in six innings and losing his ninth game of the year. The newly-promoted Eduard Bazardo picked up where he left off in Salem, striking out two in two scoreless innings. Jake Cosart added a scoreless ninth for Portland. At the plate, the Sea Dogs struggled with the only run coming from Joey Curletta's solo shot. Jarren Duran singled, while both CJ Chatham and Jake Romanski doubled as Portland fell.

Salem overcame an early deficit thanks to a herculean effort from Marcus Wilson. Wilson launched two home runs on the night, good for three RBI, and also walked and stole a base. Batting in front of him, Edgar Corcino also had a great night at the plate, doubling as part of a two-hit night. Bryan Mata continued his strong season on the mound, scattering five hits across five innings and surrendering just two runs. Pitching out of the bullpen, Andrew Politi dazzled, striking out five across four innings and allowing just a single hit.

Dylan Hardy was the catalyst at the plate for Greenville, homering as part of a two-hit, three-run night. Joining Hardy in the home run column was Tyler Dearden, who launched a solo shot. Also having big nights were Everlouis Lozada, who singled three times, and Jordan Wren, who outdid him with four singles. Getting the start for Greenville was Kevin Biondic, who went six innings and allowed two earned runs. Angel Padron added two perfect innings and Logan Browning earned his sixth save of the season with a two-strikeout ninth.

It took a team effort and a little late-inning magic for Lowell to overcome Connecticut Saturday night, as every starter collected a hit. Starter Yasel Santana set the tone with an excellent effort, hurling five innings of one-run ball and striking out six. Kris Jackson shut the door for Lowell with two shutout innings to end the game.
It was Nick Northcut who gave Lowell the lead with his ninth-inning single, his only hit of the game, and Antoni Flores gave Lowell an insurance run two batters later with an RBI single of his own. Gilberto Jimenez continued his red hot start to the 2019 season, collecting two hits and stealing a base for the Spinners.
Lowell came out on top in the second game of the doubleheader thanks to a strong performance from starter Aldo Ramirez. Ramirez went five innings and struck out seven without surrendering a run. Osvaldo de la Rosa relieved him and closed out the game, allowing a run in two innings pitched. On offense, Nick Decker was a one-man wrecking crew as he doubled twice in his three-hit, two-RBI game.

Every Red Sox batter reached base once as they overcame the Rays in a shootout. Remarkably Alex Zapete recorded the only extra-base hit for the DSL Red Sox1 squad, and also scored three runs. Nelfy Abreu and Brandon Rincon were the only other Red Sox to collect multiple hits, while Eduardo Lopez singled, walked, drove in a run, and scored once. Carlos Velez was solid in his start, allowing only two earned runs in four innings pitched and striking out three without allowing a free pass.

The DSL Red Sox2 were unable to complete the sweep of their Tampa Bay counterparts despite a couple of strong offensive performances. Leading the way offensively was Wilmer Perez who singled three times, good for three RBI. Andres Gari also had a strong showing at the dish, scoring twice on the back of a pair of singles and a stolen base. On the mound, Reidis Sena struck out four, but allowed a pair of runs in his three innings of work.

Player of the Day: Although suffering a setback with his mid-season demotion, Marcus Wilson has done nothing but hit since joining Salem. With his two long balls Saturday evening, Wilson has now hit three home runs in two games and now has nine on the season with three different teams. The 25th ranked prospect in the system according to SoxProspects.com now owns a .341/424/.659 line for Salem and will look to hit his way back into Double-A.
