Cup of Coffee: Howlett with 4 hits; De Jesus allows 2 hits

5/2 Cup of Coffee: It was a night to forget in the Red Sox system, as Portland was shut out, Pawtucket did not play and Greenville suffered defeat despite putting 14 hits on the board. However, Salem ensured Wednesday would not be a total loss, as the No. 1-No. 6 hitters recorded 10 of the team's 11 base knocks, including multiple-hit efforts from Jarren Duran, Pedro Castellanos, Ryan Fitzgerald and Victor Acosta. Despite the Drive's defeat, Brandon Howlett was 4 for 5.

The top half of the line up got it done as the first five batters in the order pounded out nine of the squad's 11 hits. Jarren Duran continued his torrid start to the season as one of four hitters to notch two hits, including Pedro Castellanos, Ryan Fitzgerald and Victor Acosta. Fitzgerald and Acosta recorded four and three RBI, respectively. Marco Hernandez scored three runs as he continued his rehab stint. On the mound, Enmanuel De Jesus allowed just two runs on two hits in his six-inning effort, with two walks against six punchouts. Dominic LoBrutto pitched a shutout ninth to earn his second save on the year.

Hickory Crawdads (TEX) 11, Greenville Drive 6
A four-run eighth from the visiting Crawdads helped put the game out of Greenville's reach. The Drive outhit their opponents 14-to-11, but were outscored where it matters. Brandon Howlett led the way for the home side with a 4 for 5 night, while Triston Casas hit his third home run of the season as part of a two-hit evening. Devlin Granberg scored three runs and had a 3 for 4 performance at the plate. Brayan Bello only survived three-plus innings, allowing seven runs, all of which were earned, on eight hits. Hunter Haworth did not allow a hit in his four innings of relief, striking out eight while walking 3 batters. Yoan Aybar did not record an out and three of the runs scored in the eighth were charged to his tab.

Player of the Night: In his first full professional season, Jarren Duran is off to an incredible start. His 2 for 5 performance helped pace Greenville in its win and he has now recorded a hit in seven of his last eight games. Duran already has been named SoxProspects.com's player of the week twice and is hitting .404/.459/.545 through the first month of the season. The 22-year-old is in a six-way tie for the Carolina League in triples after hitting 11 in 283 at-bats during 2018.
