Fort Report: SoxProspects crew arrives at spring training
Here are Thursday's minor league notes:
- Ian Cundall arrived in Fort Myers on Wednesday, and he has already tweeted his observations on a handful of players. He saw Danny Diaz hit a long opposite field home run in a simulated game, and he saw an impressive splitter from Jake Thompson (pictured).
- Mike Andrews, Chris Hatfield, and James Dunne will all be joining Cundall on Thursday, and they will be staying until Sunday. Follow along on their Twitter accounts, as well as the SoxProspects.com Twitter account, for the latest from minor league camp.
- The #SP40 Twitter countdown wrapped up this week, with second-ranked prospect Triston Casas and top-ranked prospect Michael Chavis rounding out the list.
- Alex Speier of the Boston Globe wrote about an eclectic group of current and former players ($) who watched Rick Porcello throw live BP on the back fields. The group included players representing the past (Pedro Martinez), current (Chris Sale), and the future (Darwinzon Hernandez).
- The list of players still in big league camp went down to 35, as right-handed pitcher Ryan Weber was reassigned to minor league camp.
- Josh Jackson of MiLB.com went in-depth on several of the top prospects in the Red Sox system in his latest Prospect Primer. Jackson believes that Bobby Dalbec is the most likely prospect to join Chavis in the Top 100, and that Bobby Poyner is the prospect that will spend the most time in Boston this year.
- With rumors swirling about Craig Kimbrel potentially signing with the Brewers, it is good to remember that if Kimbrel signs before the 2019 Draft, the Red Sox will receive a compensation pick that falls after the fourth round.
- For fans who are nostalgic for the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry from the early aughts, the PawSox are "celebrating" Alex Rodriguez's engagement to Jennifer Lopez on April 12. The night will include some lowlights from A-Rod's 2004 season, free admission for Jennifers, and potentially Ben Affleck throwing out the first pitch.
- Here is the list of minor league players who have appeared in spring training games since the last Fort Report: Nick Lovullo, Mike Miller, Jeremy Rivera, Jantzen Witte, Chris Madera, Aneury Tavarez, Jarren Duran, Brett Netzer, Jagger Rusconi, and Jenrry Mejia.
