Fall/Winter Roundup: Regular season ends in the Dominican; De Jesus struggles

This continues our weekly roundups of the Fall and Winter Leagues, highlighting performances from players in the Red Sox organization. Coverage will continue every Monday into January. This week's roundup covers the period of December 10-16.

Dominican Baseball League

Catcher Jhon Nunez was again the only player to appear in the league's final week. Nunez appeared in three games but only received two at-bats, going 0 for 2 with a strikeout which left his regular season slash line at .227/.277/.295 over 44 at-bats. Nunez's team, Toros del Este, finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak, and their 24-24 record was good enough to lock up the fourth and final playoff spot in the six-team league.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League

To say Enmanuel De Jesus (pictured, above) had an off week would be an understatement. On Thursday, entered the game and allowed four hits and two earned runs while only recording one out. It did not go much better for him on Saturday where he again threw 1/3 of an inning while allowing an earned run on three hits. This week was not reflective of his performance this winter where he had previously only allowed three runs over 12 innings. 

Deiner Lopez got into three games this week but only got an at-bat Monday where he went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. Outfielder Juan Hernandez also got into a game this week but did not hit.

Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico)

Coming off a week where he went 4 for 10, catcher Juan Centeno stayed hot, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored on Wednesday and followed it up by going 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Jeremy Rivera has struggled thus far this winter but continues to see solid playing time.  Over five games, the 5-foot-9 shortstop went 4 for 17 with a double, a run scored, an RBI, and a walk and strikeout. 

Australian Baseball League

Righty Harrison Cooney (pictured, left) managed to cut his ERA almost in half after throwing three scoreless innings between Friday and Sunday. Friday he went two innings where he allowed three hits and got a strikeout, and on Sunday he went an inning without allowing a hit while walking one and striking out one. Catcher Jake Romanski also had a solid week, going 4 or 14 with a double, walk and two strikeouts over four games.
