Minor Notes: Scouting scratch on Alex Scherff; Michael Chavis a big mover at MLB Pipeline

Here are Thursday's Minor Notes:

• SoxProspects.com's Ian Cundall was down at Instructs last week and his first piece from the weekend, a Scouting Scratch on Alex Scherff (pictured), was released on Thursday, citing an above-average curveball as part of an improved look at the right-hander from Texas.

• The SoxProspects podcast also returned for episode No. 146, where Ian recapped his weekend at Fall Instructs with Chris and the pair answered some email questions.
• The full roster has yet to be released, but WEEI.com's Rob Bradford has the story on those that will not be suiting up in the ALDS for the Red Sox, including Tzu-Wei Lin, Sam Travis and Robby Scott, each of whom spent a solid chunk of their season in the minor leagues and will be staying fresh in Fort Myers should their services be required. Brandon Phillips was sent home for the winter and will not be factoring into Boston's postseason plans.
• According to the Boston Herald's Jason Mastrodonato, it's down to four relievers for two spots. Bobby Poyner, who pitched 44 innings across 33 appearances between Portland and Pawtucket this season, will be competing with Joe Kelly, Heath Hembree and Brandon Workman. Workman threw 30 innings for the PawSox combined with his 41 1/3 frames with Boston.
• MLB Pipeline re-ranked its top 100 prospects after the season's conclusion and on Wednesday, Michael Chavis was highlighted as being one of the biggest movers up the list. Chavis started the year at No. 96 and ended at No. 69.
• MLB Pipeline also highlighted Chavis as the top Red Sox prospect participating in the Arizona Fall League as Jim Callis, Mike Rosenbaum and Jonathan Mayo named each squad's top prospect participating.
• The trio over at MLB Pipleline mapped out the construction of each of the 10 postseason rosters and the Red Sox, with 10 homegrown players, were tied with the Astros for most such players among the five American League teams.
• With a steal on September 26 against the Baltimore Orioles, Mookie Betts became the second Red Sox ever to become a member of the 30-30 club, after Jacoby Ellsbury did it in 2011. Both of those players, two of 40 to ever reach the mark, are homegrown.
• Betts also won Baseball Digest's player of the year award after leading the majors with a .346 batting average, with 32 home runs and 30 stolen bases, scoring 129 runs.
• Baseball Miracles is looking for new and gently used baseball gloves for their trip to the Dominican Republic as well as one to Puerto Rico in December.
