Cup of Coffee: Devers delivers during rehab; Betts belts pair of homers
9/4 Cup of Coffee: In the final day of the season, with all five teams failing to make the playoffs, Rafael Devers proved he was ready to rejoin the big club while Jordan Betts finished up his 2018 season with a bang for Portland. Jarren Duran delivered a fitting final performance of the season, collecting two hits in a Greenville win.

Michael Chavis provided the only run on a force attempt in the first inning, but it was the lone run for the PawSox in the final game of the regular season. Rafael Devers, in his final rehab outing, went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Mike Shawaryn lasted 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits two runs and striking out five to finish the year with a 3.93 ERA across 36 2/3 innings pitch for Pawtucket.
The PawSox finished the year with a 66-73 record.

Two home runs from Jordan Betts powered Portland as a Deiner Lopez two-run blast in the top of the 11th inning delivered an extra-inning win over Binghamton. Betts' two homers were his only two hits, as he accounted for all but one of the Sea Dogs' runs.
Jake Cosart picked up the win with three innings of relief, allowing two hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out four.
The Sea Dogs finished the regular season with a 63-76 record.

Two runs in the top of the eighth sunk Salem, who out-hit Lynchburg 9-4 but didn't have a single extra-base hit in a season-closing loss. Kutter Crawford was part of a get-em-all-in-the-game contest, starting for the Red Sox, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing one hit, one run but five walks to go along with five strikeouts in an 85-pitch performance. Joan Martinez, Kevin McAvoy, Yankory Pimentel and Durbin Feltman all pitched in in relief in the loss.
CJ Chatham went 1 for 4 in the season finale, finishing his year with Salem with a .315 average following a May 8th call-up from Greenville.

A grand finale from Alex Scherff didn't result in a win for the 20-year-old right-hander, but the Drive did end up with the win. Scherff finished with five frames of six-hit, one-run ball, striking out six while throwing 57 of his 81 pitches for strikes.

With Tyler Esplin batting, a wild pitch scored Dylan Hardy to knot the game up at five apiece in the bottom of the ninth. An inning later, Alan Marrero scored on an RBI single from Juan Carlos Abreu to walk off the game, and season, with a win over the Tigers.
Yorvin Pantoja pitched well over five innings, giving up two hits, two runs (one earned) while striking out two as Kris Jackson got the win, going 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just one walk while striking out four.

Player of the Day: With his last-name namesake having an MVP-type season with the big club, Jordan Betts had an MVP-type performance for Portland, smacking two home runs in the final game of the regular season. The former 18th round selection picked the right time to have his only two-home run performance of the season in the season finale.
