Minor Notes: PawSox set to move, Shawaryn's hot streak continues

Here are Monday's minor league notes:

• SoxProspects.com Executive Editor Chris Hatfield and Director of Scouting Ian Cundall got together for the 144th episode of the SoxProspects Podcast. The guys talked about the PawSox leaving Pawtucket, provided scouting notes on the current Pawtucket roster, and went in-depth on two of the hottest hitters in the system, Michael Chavis and Bobby Dalbec. 

• After being in Pawtucket since 1973, the PawSox plan on moving to Worcester, Mass. The PawSox signed a letter of intent to build a stadium in Worcester that is scheduled to open in 2021. Per the PawSox, the move is still pending the approval of "the Worcester City Council, the International League, and the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues ("Minor League Baseball")."

• Jon Chesto of the Boston Globe had some additional details on the move, including that the team would be renamed the Worcester Red Sox, the stadium will seat approximately 10,000 people and be called Polar Park, and it will be located in the Canal District.

• The latest Red Sox player to make a rehab appearance in the minors will be Eduardo Rodriguez, as he is set to pitch for the Sea Dogs on Monday night. Rodriguez has missed the last five weeks with a right ankle sprain. 

• Another left-hander from Venezuela making noise on the farm is Darwinzon Hernandez. In his first start back from the disabled list on Saturday he struck out nine and took the Carolina League lead in strikeouts with 124 on the season. Gerard Gilberto of MiLB.com spoke with Hernandez about his rise this season, and he has been on of the best pitchers in the system of late. 

• A possibly significant role-change took place on Sunday, as seventh-ranked prospect Mike Shawaryn (pictured, below) came out of the bullpen for the first time in 55 career games. Shawaryn has been locked in of late, pitching to a 1.99 ERA over his last 40 2/3 innings with 38 strikeouts. It remains to be seen if this is a long-term move, but it bears watching as Shawaryn is currently one of the best arms on the farm.

Players of the Week

Jarren Duran, RF, Greenville Drive

6 G, 24 AB, 11 H, 3 2B, 0 HR, 4 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K, 3 SB, .458/.500/.583

A seventh-round pick this season out of Cal State Long Beach, Duran has done nothing but hit since entering the system. This is already his second Player of the Week award and he is now batting .370/.409/.539 in 235 plate appearances between Lowell and Greenville. Ranked 20th in the SoxProspects.com rankings, Duran is looking like a great value pick. 

Mike Shawaryn, RHP, Pawtucket

2 G, 10 1/3 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 11 K, 0.48 WHIP

As discussed above, Shawaryn's two appearances this week consisted of one start and one relief appearance. He dominated in both spots as he is moving closer to helping the major league club. He is not Rule 5 Draft eligible until after next season but it's possible the Red Sox add him to the 40-man roster if they think he can contribute once rosters expand. This is his second Pitcher of the Week award and fourth overall since entering the system as a fifth-round pick in 2016 out of the University of Maryland.
