Red Sox select Durbin Feltman with their third-round pick
Feltman serves as the closer for the Horned Frogs where he set a school record and was second in the nation with 17 saves during his sophomore season in 2017, finishing with a 3.64 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts to 15 walks over 29 2/3 innings. This year, he started out the season with 13 straight scoreless appearances and ended up allowing only two earned runs all season for a 0.74 ERA matched by a 0.74 WHIP to go along with an impressive 43-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
His arsenal is as impressive as his stats. He has a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and touches 99 according to Baseball America, and Perfect Game USA describes his mid-80s slider as extremely sharp and easily earning plus grades. He does feature a changeup occasionally, but MLB.com says it is merely decent. All publications say that because he is only 6 feet tall and listed at 190 pounds and has effort in his delivery, he is a pure reliever. Still, Baseball America says he is one of the best closers in the country, Perfect Game USA indicates he should be able to move very quickly through a system, and MLB.com says he profiles as a Major League setup man or closer.
The slot value for the 100th pick is $559,600, and there have been no indications that Feltman will be a tough sign or wants to return to TCU.
