Red Sox select Devlin Granberg with their sixth-round pick

With their sixth-round pick (190th overall) in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the Red Sox selected Devlin Granberg, an outfielder from Dallas Baptist University in Texas. Granberg, a 6-foot-2 senior, was highly thought of for a senior sign, ranked 245th on Baseball America's list and no. 408 by Perfect Game USA.

Granberg has been productive at the plate throughout his collegiate career, hitting .427/.508/.680 with 25 home runs in 163 games between Creighton, Cisco Junior College, and Dallas Baptist, but he has never been drafted. He has good hand-eye coordination at the plate and generates good exit velocity with above-average bat speed.  He can also run for a player of his size, stealing 23 bases in 2018, but despite that, he is still limited to left field due to fringe-average defense and a below-average arm.

From Hudson, Colorado, Granberg was named the Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year after posting a school record .443 batting average and winning his second consecutive MVC batting title. Granberg ranked top 10 nationally in six offensive categories and was No. 1 overall in the country in hits with 112. Granberg is also a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, awarded to the top player in college baseball.

Following his senior year of high school, Granberg played for the Brockton Rox in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

The slot value for the No. 190 overall pick is $241,600.
