Cup of Coffee: Shepherd guides Pawtucket to win
5/29 Cup of Coffee: It was an impressive performance from Chandler Shepherd (pictured) after a hiccup in his last start as the right-hander led the PawSox to a win. The Sea Dogs and Red Sox both lost, with the latter falling in extra innings on Monday.

Despite a rocky performance in his last start, Chandler Shepherd continued his impressive run in May by tossing seven innings of one-run ball in the PawSox' win over the IronPigs. The tall right-hander allowed one run on four hits and struck out six while Robbie Scott and Ryan Brasier each pitched in for one inning of scoreless relief.
Sam Travis blasted a solo shot in the fifth inning as part of a two-hit performance while Tzu-Wei Lin, Cole Sturgeon, and Ivan De Jesus Jr. also added two hits apiece in the win.

Jeremy Rivera was the lone bright spot with a home run, single, and two RBI from the leadoff spot as the Sea Dogs fell to the Fightin' Phils. Matthew Kent was tagged for four runs on eight hits in five innings pitched but did strike out eight batters in the loss. Kent gave up a single, walk and single to open the top of the sixth with the Sea Dogs up 2-1, but Trey Ball proceeded to allow a grand slam, walk, single and walk in relief before retiring the next three Reading batters.

Due to inclement weather, the series finale between the Drive and Fireflies was canceled and will not be made up since the teams do not play again in the second half of the season.

Player of the Day: With a nice bounce-back performance on Monday, Chandler Shepherd responded nicely from his worst outing of the month on May 23, when we lasted just 3 1/3 innings while allowing four runs, to pitch seven innings of one-run ball in a win over Lehigh. The 25-year-old 2014 selection out of the University of Kentucky has been impressive this month, despite his one hiccup, pitching five innings or more in four of his five starts while lowering his ERA from 7.36 at the beginning of the month to 4.24 after Monday's win.
