Minor Notes: Thompson battles McKay

Here are Monday's minor notes:

• SoxProspects.com's Director of Scouting Ian Cundall recently got a chance to see a pair of 2017 draft picks in action. Cundall writes about what he saw from fourth-round selection Jake Thompson, including a detailed observation on the right-handed pitcher's impressive sequence to 2017 fourth overall pick Brendan McKay. Cundall also writes about third-round selection Brett Netzer, a second baseman who was recently called up to Greenville after hitting .317 in Lowell. 
• Last night, Blake Swihart made his return to Triple-A Pawtucket after nine games with the GCL Red Sox. He was the DH for the PawSox last night and went 0 for 4. 
• Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times writes about some potential PawSox September callus. 
• SoxProspects.com's Executive Editor Chris Hatfield got a chance to see the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday and Sunday and recorded some notes on Twitter. He saw Henry Owens pitch well on Saturday and Kevin McAvoy run into some bad luck on Sunday. 
• In case you missed it, top prospect Rafael Devers launched a 423-foot bomb to left-center field to tie Sunday night's game against the Yankees. The homer came off a 102.8 MPH fastball from left-hander Aroldis Chapman. 
• Alex Speier of the Boston Globe writes about how Devers and Andrew Benintendi are reminders that Boston, despite trading a lot of prospects recently, has not mortgaged the future. 
• In addition to being named the SoxProspects.com Player of the Week (below), Lowell Spinners outfielder Marino Campana was named the New York-Penn League Player of the Week after staying red hot at the plate.

Marino Campana, OF, Lowell Spinners

Campana (pictured, above) is currently riding a very impressive 16-game hitting streak dating back to July 24. He has had multiple hits in three of his last four games and has logged at least on RBI in six consecutive games. During the hitting streak, he has raised his batting average with Lowell from .167 to .277. 

Campana was an international free agent signing out of the Dominican Republic in July of 2014. The 19-year-old spent time with the DSL Red Sox and GCL Red Sox last season and was called up to Lowell this year after beginning in the GCL. His overall line with Lowell in 29 games is .277/.308/.402. 

Denyi Reyes, RHP, Lowell Spinners

1 G, 6 2/3 IP, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 0.30 WHIP

Reyes is working on a string of five consecutive outings in which he has gone at least five innings and given up zero earned runs. He also has a very impressive 18 strikeouts and zero walks in that same span. 

Reyes, like Campana, was an international free agent signing out of the Dominican Republic in July of 2014. The 20-year-old has a 1.57 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 46 innings for Lowell this season.
