Cup of Coffee: Raudes stretches shutout streak for Salem

7/19 Cup of Coffee: Roniel Raudes (pictured) stayed hot for Salem, leading the High-A squad to a win in a pitcher's duel. Bryce Brentz connected for his 20th home run of the season in a Pawtucket win. Jeremy Barfield and the Sea Dogs nearly mounted a wild comeback, but came up just short. Despite Shooter McGavin being in attendance, the Lowell Spinners were thrashed for a loss.

The PawSox jumped on Toledo early with Matt Dominguez and Bryce Brentz providing all the offense Pawtucket would need. Dominguez kicked off the scoring in the first with a bases-clearing double. He was credited for two RBI, as the third run scored on an error. Brentz clubbed his 20th home run in the third inning and added a third RBI with a double in the eighth. Rafael Devers went 2 for 4 with a strikeout. Fresh off of his promotion back to Pawtucket, Ty Buttrey picked up the win with three innings of shutout relief. He allowed only one hit, struck out four and walked none.

The Sea Dogs nearly erased a 9-1 deficit, bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but came up short. Jake Drehoff was roughed up for seven runs on eight hits and a walk in two innings of work. Portland chipped away with Jeremy Barfield going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI and Josh Tobias also going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Michael Chavis went 1 for 5 with his 14th run batted in at the Double-A level.

Roniel Raudes impressed on the mound for the second straight outing, stretching his shutout streak to 11 innings. Raudes hurled six shutout innings, giving up just four hits. He struck out four and walked only two, but also hit a pair of batters. Logan Boyd picked up his first professional save since moving to the bullpen, contributing three shutout innings of relief. He struck out three and walked three, but has yet to allow a run in 8 2/3 innings of relief work with Salem. Chris Madera drove in the game's lone run. Josh Ockimey was hitless in three at-bats.

Lowell came up short of the Gold Jacket on Happy Gilmore Night, with Ryan Oduber getting hit harder than Bob Barker. The lefty gave up eight runs (six earned) on six hits and a walk in one inning of work. Jared Oliver impressed in relief, however, striking out seven in three shutout innings.

The Red Sox and the Orioles combined for 13 runs in the ninth and tenth innings in a wild finish. The Sox forced extra innings thanks to two runs on a double, a balk, an error, a wild pitch and a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth. The Orioles then put up five in the 10th to put the game away. Oddanier Mosqueda posted a solid start with five innings of work. He gave up one run on four hits while striking out three and walking none. Second-round pick Cole Brannen went 2 for 5 with a run scored.

Player of the Night: With his second straight scoreless outing, Roniel Raudes gets the nod for Player of the Night. After seeing his ERA swell to 5.15 in late June, Raudes has managed to lower that by almost an entire run since then. The 11 straight shutout innings is the longest such streak of his professional career.
