Cup of Coffee: Esplin hits first pro homer, Osinski leads Lowell
7/12 Cup of Coffee: It was a quiet night in the Red Sox farm system with Pawtucket and Portland on their All-Star breaks and Lowell and Greenville with the night off. Seventh-rounder Tyler Esplin hit his first professional home run for the GCL squad. Michael Osinski (pictured), a 31st round pick this year for Boston, had a nice night at the plate in a Spinners win.

The Spinners racked up 12 hits, led by Michael Osinski out of the eight hole. The 21-year-old Longwood University product went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. He also started a 6-4-3 double play in the field. Yoan Aybar went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored and gunned down a would-be run at the plate in the sixth. Durin O'Linger had a solid outing on the mound, giving up two runs - neither of which were earned - on five hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. He walked two and struck out five.

Tyler Esplin tried to ignite a late comeback for the GCL Sox with his first professional home run in the ninth inning. The two-run shot was all the Sox could muster, however, collecting just four hits on the game. CJ Chatham went 0 for 3 in the second game of his rehab assignment. Angel Padron went four innings on the mound, giving up one run on two hits while walking two and striking out four.

A wild 11th inning lifted the DSL squad to a win after scoring four runs without the benefit of a hit. Three walks, a hit batter, a balk, a sacrifice fly and the runner that now starts on second base per the new extra inning rules led to the win. Keibert Petit went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Angel Gonzalez went 1 for 4 and drove in a pair. Rayniel Moreno fared well in five innings of work, giving up two runs on just three hits and a walk. He also struck out four.

Player of the Night: On a light night, Michael Osinski gets the nod for Player of the Night. He is now 6 for 15 in five games for Lowell. A Vestal, N.Y., native, Osinski hit .308 in his junior season for Longwood with three home runs, 36 RBI, 35 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. Osinski is the second Longwood product drafted by Boston after selecting Kyri Washington in the 23rd round of the 2015 draft.
