Cup of Coffee: Ball, Olt lift Portland in doubleheader

7/8 Cup of Coffee: The Sea Dogs scored a combined 16 runs in their doubleheader, with Trey Ball (pictured) tossing a complete game in the first one. Brett Netzer, Boston's 2017 third round pick, broke out and reached base four times as Lowell scored 11 runs. Michael Chavis and Rafael Devers each racked up two hits, Mike Olt popped a grand slam, and Brock Holt played well in a rehab game. ----- Buffalo Bisons (TOR) 5, Pawtucket Red Sox 0 Kyle Kendrick had another rough outing, allowing 10 hits and four runs in five innings. Kyle Martin and Ty Buttrey each tossed two innings in relief, with Buttrey putting up zeros in both frames. The offense was held to just five singles, with Heiker Meneses grabbing two hits. Pablo Sandoval and Jhonny Peralta each went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.  ----- Portland Sea Dogs 7, Reading Fightin Phils (PHI) 1 Trey Ball led the way in game one with seven strong innings of one-run ball. He struck out seven, did not walk anybody, and allowed just three hits in the complete game effort. SoxProspects.com's Director of Scouting, Ian Cundall, had a chance to take in the action and reported Ball's slider as being his best offering during the outing. Chad De La Guerra paced the offense by going 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI. Rafael Devers was 2 for 3 with a walk and Michael Chavis went 2 for 3 with a double. Brock Holt also went 1 for 2 with two walks in a rehab appearance. ----- Portland Sea Dogs 9, Reading Fightin Phils (PHI) 6 The Sea Dogs pulled away in game two with six runs in the third inning, which included a grand slam by Mike Olt. Danny Mars was 2 for 4 with two doubles at the top of the lineup. Taylor Grover was knocked around for six hits and three runs in three innings before Josh Smith tossed three shutout innings with three strikeouts.  ----- Lynchburg Hilllcats (CLE) 5, Salem Red Sox 4 Roniel Raudes pitches a solid game, lasting 5 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out seven and walking two. Austin Glorius pitched well in 2 1/3 innings, surrendering no runs and punching out four. Tate Matheny went 2 for 4 with a triple and Josh Ockimey, Jordan Betts, and Tyler Spoon each roped doubles.  ----- Lexington Legends (KC) 5, Greenville Drive 2 Greenville was held to just one hit, a two-run homer by Tucker Tubbs in the fourth. Daniel Gonzalez struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings, but allowed three runs on five hits and three walks. Hildemaro Requena also struggled, allowing four hits and two runs in 1 1/3 innings of work.  ----- Lowell Spinners 11, Connecticut Tigers (DET) 4 Five Lowell starters recorded at least two hits as the Spinners used an eight-run third inning to pull away. 2017 draft pick Brett Netzer had a great game, going 2 for 3 with two singles and two walks. Raiwinson Lameda had two hits and two RBI as well. Yorvin Pantoja started and tossed four shutout innings without allowing a hit, although he walked a pair. Denyi Reyes picked up the win with three innings of one-run ball and two strikeouts.  ----- GCL Red Sox 10, GCL Twins 5 Pedro Castellanos had a huge game with four hits and four RBI, while Andre Colon added three of his own. A rehabbing Bobby Dalbec went 2 for 4 and Kervin Suarez slugged his first home run. Oddanier Mosqueda allowed three runs in four innings on four hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Francisco Lopez-Soto picked up his second win despite allowing five walks and two runs in 2 1/3 innings. Taylor Ahearn finished it off with 2 2/3 scoreless innings.  ----- DSL Red Sox 3, DSL Royals 2 This game was finished after it was suspended in the ninth inning on June 21. The Red Sox walked off in the bottom of the 11th thanks to the new extra-inning rules. Willis Figueroa began the inning at second base and scored on an error. Shair Lacrus picked up the win on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. ----- DSL Royals 4, DSL Red Sox 3 Rafael Gomez pitched well in the loss, allowing two runs in five innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk. At the plate, Willis Figueroa went 2 for 4 with a triple and Keibert Petit added a double.  ----- Player of the Night: Trey Ball gets the nod with his complete game victory in game one of Portland's doubleheader. He has now allowed one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts. Ball's overall ERA stands at 4.91 with 68 strikeouts and 39 walks over 80 2/3 innings.
