Cup of Coffee: Anderson fires seven shutout innings

Pacific Coast League All-Stars 6, International League All-Stars 4
The PawSox made up two-thirds of the starting outfield for the International League, with Rusney Castillo going 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI while Bryce Brentz went 0 for 2 with a walk. Edgar Olmos came on in the eighth and retired the only batter he faced.

Eastern Division All-Stars 7, Western Division All-Stars 1
After recording three or more hits 12 times in the first half with Portland, Danny Mars went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Eastern Division to victory. Rafael Devers went 1 for 2 with a strikeout and Teddy Stankiewicz tossed a scoreless inning, while Williams Jerez did not make an appearance in the game.

Salem Red Sox 6, Potomac Nationals (WAS) 0
A dominant performance from Shaun Anderson was the highlight of Salem's shutout victory. Anderson went the first seven innings, allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out six. After entering the game with an ERA over 5, the right-hander turned in his best start with Salem as he looks to get back to the early season success he had with Greenville. Marc Brakeman finished off the shutout with two scoreless innings, striking out four.
The offense was led by Tate Matheny who went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, and Tyler Spoon also added two hits and a walk. Matheny is now 15 for 36 with six extra-base hits and four walks over the last nine games.

Greenville Drive 12, Kannapolis Intimidators (CWS) 2
Every player reached base at least once as Greenville slugged their way to a win. Bobby Dalbec returned to the lineup for the first time since May 10, and he went 1 for 5 with a double. It was a career-night for Granger Studdard, who went 4 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI. Carlos Tovar went 3 for 5 with a double, and Roldani Baldwin went 2 for 5 with two doubles to give him a team-high 23 on the season. Jhonathan Diaz had a solid outing on the mound, allowing two runs over five innings while striking out two.

Batavia Muckdogs (MIA) 7, Lowell Spinners 2
The Spinners got down early and could never come back, as their five-game winning streak came to an end. Nick Duron gave up four runs over four innings as he dropped to 1-1 on the season. Nicholos Hamilton was the only player to record multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Frankie Rios slugged his first career home run.

Three errors by the Red Sox did not help the cause as they fell to the Rays. Oddanier Mosqueda started the game strong by allowing one run over four innings with four strikeouts, but Eduard Bazardo could not keep it close as he allowed five runs, two earned, in his two innings. Ramfis Berroa had two hits and drove in the only run, while Kervin Suarez extended his hitting streak to 11 games to start the season.

A four-run seventh inning propelled the Red Sox to a comeback victory. Angel Gonzalez went 1 for 3 with a walk, and the hit was a two-run single with two outs in the seventh to put the team ahead. Alexander Martinez went 2 for 5 to raise his average to .359, and Luis Torres went 3 for 4 in his second career start. Manuel Ramirez allowed more than two runs for the first time this season as he was shelled for five runs on nine hits over four innings. Antonio Police got the win after striking out six and allowing two walks over two hitless innings.

Player of the Night: Shaun Anderson looked poised for a big season after pitching to a 1.30 ERA over 27 2/3 innings with Greenville in April. He has struggled since that point, entering the night with an ERA of 5.19 over his last 52 innings. He struck out almost one batter per inning in April, but his strikeout rate has dropped to under six strikeouts per nine innings with Salem. The six strikeouts and 10 groundouts he recorded on Wednesday were the most he had in a start with Salem, and the final stat line looked similar to those dominant starts he had back in April.
