Cup of Coffee: Olmos, Dominguez power PawSox to win

6/25 Cup of Coffee: Jay Groome had a mixed bag in his second outing with the Spinners. Edgar Olmos continued to pitch well in Pawtucket while Matt Dominguez (pictured) had a big offensive night. Bullpens also pitched pretty well throughout the system.

Pitching was the story in this one, as three PawSox combined to give up just two hits. Edgar Olmos had another nice start with five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit with seven strikeouts. He did have some control issues, walking five. Chandler Shepherd and Jamie Callahan each threw two shutout innings, with Shepherd striking out four. Matt Dominguez led the offense by going 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, and four RBI.  Blake Swihart had two hits including a double, and Bryce Brentz had a pair of doubles and a walk.

After taking a 5-4 lead with a three-run bottom of the eighth, Taylor Grover blew the save and took the loss by giving up two runs. Teddy Stankiewicz gave up four runs (three earned) in six innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Josh Smith did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Henry Urrutia had a big night, reaching three times with two double and a walk. Michael Chavis was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Rafael Devers went 0 for 5.

Matt Kent pitched well in the win by allowing just two earned runs in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Jordan Weems picked up the win with three strikeouts in two innings and Trevor Kelley got the save with a scoreless ninth. Jordan Betts homered as part of a two-hit night, Jhon Nunez went 3 for 4, and Austin Rei had two doubles to give him 21 on the year.

After being down 4-2, Greenville tied it in the eighth and walked it off in the 10th with a Roldani Baldwin RBI single. Tyler Hill went 3 for 5 and Ryan Scott had two singles and a walk. Robby Sexton allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Algenis Martinez pitched well in relief to earn the win with six strikeouts in three scoreless frames.

Jay Groome made his second start with Lowell and lasted just 3 2/3 innings. He struck out five but walked two and allowed four hits. SoxProspects.com's Director of Scouting, Ian Cundall, has more on the start. Marcos Lantigua and Juan Florentino each threw two shutout innings in relief with Florentino picking up three strikeouts. Lowell had just six hits, including triples by Aneury Tavarez and Yoan Aybar.

The DSL Sox rolled to a 7-0 victory, led by Willis Figueroa's three hits, including a triple. Alexander Martinez had a double and a triple and Luis Hernandez had two hits. Gregory Santos went the first four innings on the mound with four strikeouts, Andres Jimenez went the next two with two strikeouts, and Shair Lacrus finished it off with three strikeouts in three innings.
