Cup of Coffee: Castillo, Betts, Baldwin rake in offensive outburst

5/6 Cup of Coffee: The bats were cooking last night, as Pawtucket, Salem, and Greenville combined to score 35 runs. Rusney Castillo and Steve Selsky had big nights for Pawtucket, while Jordan Betts (pictured) and Roldani Baldwin had nice nights for Salem and Greenville, respectively. Marcus Walden and Shaun Anderson mixed in solid starts as well. After being the only team in the system to play two nights ago, Portland had both ends of a doubleheader rained out.

A scoreless six innings from Marcus Walden and a pair of three-run frames for the offense set the tone for Pawtucket. Walden allowed just a hit and a walk while striking out four. Steve Selsky went 2 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI, and Rusney Castillo had three hits including a double. Sam Travis was 1 for 4 with an RBI ground-rule double.

These games will be made up on two different days. A doubleheader will be played today and on July 7th at 6:00 p.m.

Six of nine Salem starters recorded at least two hits in their slugfest victory. Josh Ockimey was 2 for 3 with a walk and two RBI, and Michael Chavis was 2 for 5 with a double. Chad De La Guerra and Jordan Betts each reached four times with two hits and two walks, with Betts belting his first home run of the year. Jhon Nunez and Trent Kemp each had three knocks as well. Trevor Kelley pitched well to close the game out, throwing two scoreless frames to keep his season ERA at 0.00.

-----

Shaun Anderson met the quality start requirement by allowing three earned runs in six innings. He also struck out eight while walking only one and completed six innings for the third consecutive start. Roldani Baldwin had a huge night, going 3 for 5 with a double, a home run, and three runs scored. Bobby Dalbec was 2 for 3 with a walk and Lorenzo Cedrola and Chris Madera each blasted home runs.

-----

Player of the Night: Jordan Betts gets the nod, as he reached four times in five plate appearances, showing both patience and extra-base hit power. The 2014 18th-round selection has had a tough start to 2017, with last night bringing his line up to .231/.305/.385. Betts spent most of 2016 in Salem, where he posted just a .692 OPS.
