Cup of Coffee: Rosario powers Portland; Lowell walks off again

Squandered opportunities contributed to the PawSox' loss. Henry Owens received the start, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out seven in five innings of work. Chandler Shepherd added two scoreless innings of relief, and Noe Ramirez struck out two in his lone inning out of the bullpen.
Pawtucket did all of its damage in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Marco Hernandez and Chris Marrero. The PawSox stranded 11 men on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Rusney Castillo led Pawtucket with three hits from the leadoff spot.

A four-run fourth inning propelled the Sea Dogs. Jalen Beeks picked up the victory, tossing six innings and allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out six. Williams Jerez added two scoreless innings of relief while striking out two. Ben Taylor picked up his second save, hurling a scoreless ninth inning. The Sea Dogs got on the board in the first on a Nate Freiman sacrifice fly. Down, 3-1, in the fourth, Portland struck for four runs on a Rainel Rosario grand slam. Erie would pull within a run in the top of the fifth, but was held in check the rest of the way. Rosario's grand slam was the first by a Sea Dog since May of last season. Portland will go for the series sweep at noon on Thursday. Yoan Moncada was again out of the lineup.
It was a game the Red Sox would like to forget, as the Blue Rocks cruised. Matt Kent fell to 8-6, allowing ten runs (nine earned) on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. German Tavares added 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks. The Red Sox scored their only runs of the game in the seventh on a two-out, two-run double by Bryan Hudson. Mike Meyers and Jordan Betts both had three hits to lead the Red Sox offense.

Daniel Gonzalez picked up the victory, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings. Adam Lau added two innings of relief, allowing one run on a hit and a walk. Victor Diaz picked up his sixth save, hurling a scoreless inning of relief. With the game scoreless in the first, the Drive struck for three runs on a Josh Ockimey two-run home run and a Kyri Washington sacrifice fly. With the game tied in the third, the Drive added two more on an Austin Rei two-run single. The Tourists would pull to within a run in the eighth, but were held in check from then on.

In a thrilling extra-inning affair, the Spinners used a three-run 11th inning to walk off. Kevin Steen received the start, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out five. Jordan Weems picked up the victory, allowing two runs on three hits in his two innings of relief. Down, 4-1, in the bottom of the ninth, the Spinners rallied to tie the game on a two-run double by Ryan Scott and an RBI double by Carlos Tovar. After the Lake Monsters plated two runs in the top of the eleventh inning, the Spinners struck back for three on a bases-loaded walk and a walk-off, two-run double by Chris Madera. It was the third walk off win for the Spinners in their last four games, helping them maintain a one-game lead over both Connecticut and Tri-City.

The Red Sox dug themselves out of a early, 4-0 hole to take home the victory. Denyi Reyes allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings. Francisco Soto picked up the victory, tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Jared Oliver earned his fourth save, hurling two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Down, 4-0, in the third, the Red Sox got on the board on a Stanley Espinal RBI single. The Red Sox pulled to within two in the fifth on a Rafael Oliveras RBI ground out. In the eighth, the Red Sox pulled ahead by plating three runs on a bases-loaded walk and a two-run double by Juan Carlos Abreu.

The Red Sox ended up on the right end of a pitcher's duel as they nipped the Marlins. Juan Perez received the start, allowing a run on five hits while punching out five in six innings of work. Eduard Bazardo picked up the victory, allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief. Down, 1-0, in the seventh, the Red Sox tied the game on a run-scoring error. In the ninth, the Red Sox walked off on an RBI single from Kervin Suarez.

The Phillies took full advantage of five Red Sox errors on their way to a convincing victory. Gregory Santos took the loss, allowing an unearned run in just two innings of work. Jose Zacarias allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in four innings of relief. Andres Jimenez was torched for four runs in just 1/3 of an inning. The Red Sox mustered just three hits, all singles, and were 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position.

Player of the Night: Rainel Rosario gets the hardware after slamming a game-winning grand slam for Portland. Rosario, in his first season in the United States since 2012, has hit .261/.325/.331 with two home runs and 34 RBI in 77 games between Portland and Pawtucket this season.
