MLB Draft Day 3 Red Sox recap: Rounds 11-40

The Red Sox took several right-handed pitchers on Day 3 of the MLB Draft. At one point, in rounds 24-28, Boston took five consecutive right-handed pitchers.

The team took 11 high school players and 19 college players overall on the final day of the draft. Boston selected 14 pitchers and 16 position players, including seven infielders, seven outfielders, and two catchers.

Here is a look at each of the Day 3 selections for the Red Sox pick-by-pick:

11th round: SS Nick Quintana, Arbor View (NV) HS

Quintana is a 5-foot-10, 185 pound shortstop with pop in his bat. He won the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Nevada during his senior season when he batted .449 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI. He has a terrific arm, having been clocked at 93 mph across the diamond according to Perfect Game USA. However, even with his strong arm, some scouts think he will move to another position. He is ranked 65th by Perfect Game, 114th by Baseball America, and 107th by MLB.com.

12th round: RHP Matthew Gorst, Georgia Tech

Gorst is a junior and was one of the best relief pitchers in the country in 2016, tossing 49 innings with a 0.55 ERA and 12 saves. He allowed just 30 hits, struck out 55, walked 13, and did not give up a home run. Baseball America ranked him 462nd overall.

13th round: RHP Brady Bramlett, Ole Miss

Bramlett was selected in last year's draft by Oakland, but he opted to go back to school for his senior season. He had a terrific year, going 8-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 16 starts. In 82 1/3 innings, he struck out 96 and walked 23. Last year, Fangraphs ranked Bramlett as their top pitcher in the SEC, and they note that he relies heavily on his fastball. He is a big kid, listed at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds.

14th round: LHP Robby Sexton, Wright State U

The 6-foot-1 left-hander made his return from Tommy John surgery in 2016, going 7-3 with a 3.15 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings. He pitched his team to a Horizon League Tournament championship, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings in the final game, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.

15th round: SS Michael Wilson, Colonia (NJ) HS

Wilson is a left-handed hitting shortstop who batted .360 with nine doubles, two triples, and six home runs during his senior campaign. He is listed at 6-foot-1 and has been clocked at 89 MPH across the diamond according to Perfect Game. He was able to showcase his skills at Fenway Park in front of the Red Sox, where he stood out. He has committed to Stony  Brook.

16th round: C Alberto Schmidt, Colegio Angel David HS

Schmidt is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and swings from the right side. According to Perfect Game, he has a line drive swing and makes hard contact. He also had his pop time measured at 1.82 seconds.

17th round: C Nick Sciortino, Boston College

The 5-foot10, 200-pound junior batted .277/.377/.361 with two home runs in 2016 while playing as the team captain. He also threw out 19 base runners in 34 tries (56%).

18th round: RHP Trevor Stephan, Hill (JC)

He is listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. The righty appeared in twenty-nine games this season, starting one of them, and pitching to a 2.88 ERA with 88 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings. Stephan is committed to Arkansas. Of note, he did not pitch in high school until the end of his senior year. (NOTE: a previous version of this post mistakenly listed Stephan's 2015 statistics.)

19th round: LHP Kyle Hart, Indiana

Hart was a fifth-year senior in 2016 and is listed at 6-foot-5, 193 pounds. The left-hander made 15 starts this year and threw 98 1/3 innings. He went 10-4 with a 3.29 ERA and 79 strikeouts. He also walked just 15 batters. He has also already had Tommy John surgery, which is why he missed most of 2014. In 2015, he had a 1.21 ERA.

20th round: SS Nick Lovullo, Holy Cross

Nick is the son of Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo and was drafted by Boston last year in the 34th round. He is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound senior who hit just .225, but he led his team in walks with 40, leading to a .363 on-base percentage. He also swatted four home runs.

21st round: SS Beau Capanna, Bishop Gorman HS

He is listed at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and hits from the right side of the plate. He is committed to New Mexico.

22nd round: OF Granger Studdard, Texas State U

Studdard is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior who batted .285/.389/.380 in 2016 with four home runs. He hit 11 home runs as a sophomore in 2015. His hard work has paid off.

23rd round: CF Juan Carlos Abreu, Winter Springs HS

Abreu is a right-hand hitting center fielder with blazing speed. According to Perfect Game, he ran the 60-yard dash in 6.33 seconds. He is listed at 6-feet, 175 pounds.

24th round: RHP Hunter Smith, UNC Greensboro

Smith is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and was a redshirt-junior in 2016. He pitched 88 2/3 innings and went 6-5 with a 6.19 ERA. He struck out 72 and walked 35.

25th round: RHP Fransisco Soto, Allen County (CC)

He is listed at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds.

26th round: RHP Jared Oliver, Truett-McConnell College

Oliver is a fifth-year senior listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. he led his team with a 3.74 ERA and struck out 99 batters in 74 2/3 innings. He struggled with his control, however, walking 59. Opponents hit just .180 against him.

27th round: RHP Vince Arobio, University of the Pacific

Arobio is a junior listed at 6-feet, 185 pounds. He pitched just 17 1/3 innings in 2016, but he had 27 strikeouts and six saves. He is a junior with a career 3.34 ERA in 70 innings.

28th round: RHP Jordan Scheftz, Saddleback (CC)

He is listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He appeared in 19 games this season, pitching 31 innings and tallying 24 strikeouts against 14 walks.

29th round: SS Cam Shepherd, Peachtree Ridge HS

Shepherd is 6-foot-1, 185 pounds and has been clocked at 87 MPH across the diamond according to Perfect Game. He is a right-handed hitter.

30th round: SS Tyler Fitzgerald, Rochester HS

Fitzgerald is also a right-handed hitting shortstop. He is listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. He has been clocked at 86 MPH across the diamond and runs the 60-yard dash in 6.5 seconds according to Perfect Game.

31st round: OF Christian Jones, Federal Way HS

Jones is listed at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds and has power that is "uncommon in high school baseball."  He is committed to the University of Washington, and was ranked the 78th best high school prospect by Baseball America to open the year.

32nd round: LHP Jeff Belge, Henninger HS

Belge is listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. He touches 94 MPH according to Perfect Game. He had an eye injury that kept him from pitching in the summer of 2015.

33rd round: CF Chad Hardy, Paris (JC)

Hardy is listed at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. The right-hand hitting outfielder batted .297 with seven home runs in 2016.

34th round: RHP Aaron McGarity, Virginia Tech

McGarity is listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds and pitched just 11 1/3 innings this year. He had 19 strikeouts and just four walks with a 2.38 ERA.

35th round: CF John Rave, Central Catholic (IL) HS

Rave is 6-feet, 170 pounds, bats left, and throws left. He committed to Illinois State University. As a sophomore, he batted .420 with four home runs and 27 stolen bases.

36th round: OF Jordan Wren, Georgia Southern U

Wren is also a left-handed throwing, left-handed hitting outfielder. As a junior, he batted .285/.350/.378 with three home runs and 10 stolen bases.

37th round: SS Carter Aldrete, Monterey HS

He is listed at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and bats from the right side. He was a three-sport athlete and almost decided to ditch baseball.

38th round: RHP Austin Bergner, Windermere Prep School (FL)

He is listed at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. For his junior and senior years combined, he went 7-1 with a 0.83 ERA.

39th round: CF Jake Wilson, Nottawasaga SS

He is listed at 6-feet, 175 pounds, and bats from the left side.

40th round: RHP Carter Henry, Port Neches-Groves (TX) HS

He is listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and touches 92 MPH with his fastball according to Perfect Game.
