Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket, Salem each win seventh straight; Greenville falls in 17

4/21 Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket and Salem stayed hot, with each winning its seventh in a row thanks to strong efforts on the mound. Portland walked off as victors, squeezing out its second straight victory. Greenville played its longest contest in franchise history, but lost in heartbreaking fashion.

Pawtucket Red Sox 2, Rochester Red Wings (MIN) 0

Pawtucket won its seven straight thanks to a strong start from Robby Scott. The lefty tossed 4 1/3 frames, allowing just two hits while punching out five. Scott made the start on short notice after William Cuevas was called up to Boston. Jorge Marban picked up the win, allowing three hits and a walk over 2 2/3 innings. Wesley Wright notched his second save of the season, closing out the final two innings.

With the game tied in the sixth, Sam Travis (pictured, right) laced a one-out double that brought home Deven Marrero and Rusney Castillo for the game's only offense. Travis has hit .452 during the PawSox' current road trip.

Portland Sea Dogs 1, Trenton Thunder (NYY) 0 

In another pitching duel, the Sea Dogs walked off thanks to Jordan Betts's two-out RBI double. Teddy Stankiewicz was outstanding in his six innings of work, allowing just four hits and striking out six. Williams Jerez added two innings of relief, allowing two hits and a walk. Luis Ysla picked up the victory, pitching around two walks in the ninth inning.

Salem Red Sox 5, Carolina Mudcats (ATL) 1

Strong performances from starter Jalen Beeks and outfielder Mike Meyers helped Salem win its seventh in a row and earn a series sweep. Beeks moved to 2-0 on the season, hurling five shutout innings. He allowed five hits, a walk, and struck out three. Jamie Callahan added three innings of relief, allowing just an unearned run. Red Sox pitching held the Mudcats to an 0-for-11 showing with runners in scoring position.

Franklin Guzman started the scoring in the fourth, bringing home two on an RBI double. In the fifth, Rafael Devers extended the Red Sox lead to 3-0 with an RBI single. In the eighth, Meyers smacked a solo home run, his first of the season, and Ben Moore brought home another run on an RBI single. Meyers was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

Hickory Crawdads (TEX) 5, Greenville Drive 4 (17 innings)

The Drive's six-game winning streak was snapped in heartbreaking fashion as they fell to the Crawdads in 17 innings. The game was the longest in Greenville history, besting the previous record of 16 innings that was set in 2006. Roniel Raudes received the start for the Drive and lasted just 3 1/3 innings. The 18-year old allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks. Victor Diaz took the loss, allowing one run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.

With Hickory up, 2-0, in the third, the Drive tied the game on a run-scoring error and an RBI single from Tate Matheny. Down, 3-2, in the sixth, Greenville grabbed the lead on Luis Alexander Basabe's two-run home run. After the Crawdads tied the game in the seventh, the game remained knotted for the next nine innings. Hickory walked off in the bottom of the 17th on an RBI double from Andy Ibanez. Matheny led the Drive's offense, going 4 for 7 with a walk, RBI, and run scored.

Player of the Night: Sam Travis nets the honor after his RBI double in the sixth inning propelled Pawtucket to its seven straight victory. Travis was 2 for 4 with the double and two RBI on the day. The 22-year-old first baseman is off to a great start, hitting .339/.377/.482 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 14 games.
