Cup of Coffee: Spinners have a Glorius night against Batavia

After surrendering a late lead, the PawSox came through in extra innings to defeat the IronPigs. Zeke Spruill pitched well, hurling eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out eight in a no decision. Noe Ramirez was roughed up for four runs (three earned) on three hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning. The recently promoted Jorge Marban pitched the last 1 2/3 to collect his first victory as a member of the PawSox.
Leading 3-2 in the ninth, Sandy Leon's three-run home run gave the PawSox a 6-2 cushion. However, in the bottom of the ninth, the IronPigs plated four runs to tie the game, 6-6. In the tenth, Jonathan Roof laced an RBI double that proved to be the winning run. Leon, Carlos Rivero, and Deven Marrero each had three hits to lead the Pawtucket offense.

A seven run third inning helped Akron sink the Sea Dogs. Danny Rosenbaum dropped to 0-5, falling victim to poor defense as he allowed eight runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks in just 2 1/3 innings. Mike Augliera relieved Rosenbaum, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings of relief. The lone runs of the contest for Portland came from an Oscar Tejeda RBI single in the first and a Carlos Asuaje solo home run in the fourth.

Despite out hitting the Dash 6-3, Salem could not make the most of its opportunities in a 2-1 loss. Ty Buttrey pitched well in the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while punching out four. Mike Adams added two perfect innings of relief. The Red Sox lone run of the contest came in the seventh on a Jordan Betts RBI single. The loss drops the Red Sox to 17-31 in the second half of the season and 13 games behind Winston-Salem in the Carolina League's Southern Division.

The Drive were only able to muster two hits as their offense was kept at bay in a 6-2 loss. Ben Taylor pitched the first four innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk. Michael Gunn took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Greenville's only offense came on one of its two hits, a two-run home run in the third inning off the bat of Rafael Devers. The loss extends the Drive's losing streak to five games.

Austin Glorius picked up his first professional win, allowing just one hits and two walks in five innings of work. The recently signed right-hander struck out eight of the 19 batters he faced. Enfember Martinez tossed the last four innings in scoreless fashion to collect his first save of the 2015 campaign. The Spinners got on the board in the fourth on Mitchell Gunsolus' RBI double. In the seventh, Sean Coyle's RBI single and a run scoring error extended the Red Sox lead to 3-0. The victory helped to move the Spinners to within a half game of first place Tri-City in the Stedler Division standings. Andrew Benintendi was 2 for 3 with a pair of walks, extending his hitting streak to eight games.

Jalen Williams took the loss as he allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and a walk in just 2 2/3 innings of work. Pat Goetze pitched well in relief, allowing just three hits in 3 1/2 innings out of the bullpen. Carlos Garcia also added two scoreless innings of relief. Red Sox batters struck out ten times and were 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position.

Alejandro Rodriguez fell to 3-6, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk in four innings. Hildemaro Requena relieved Rodriguez, tossing three innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. The DSL Sox struck out 13 times, were just 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position, and left 11 men on base. Willis Figueroa and Luis Yovera had two hits apiece to lead the Red Sox offense.

Yorvin Pantoja pitched well in his five innings of work, allowing just one hit and three walks, striking out five. Warlyn Guzman took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings of relief. The Red Sox runs came from RBI ground outs from Lorenzo Cedrola in the sixth and Rafael Toribio in the ninth.

Player of the Night: Austin Glorius, the 22 year old right-hander allowed just one hit and two walks, punching out five in his five innings of work on Friday night. Signed as an undrafted free agent earlier this month out of Valdosta State University, Glorius picked up his first professional victory in just his third appearance.
