Cup of Coffee: Chavis, Longhi pace Greenville, Espinoza continues to impress
8/8 Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket and Portland were blanked while Salem's bats fell quiet in the latter half of their loss. Greenville's offensive allowed them to sweep a doubleheader against Lexington, while Lowell could not tame the Tigers. The GCL squad split a doubleheader of its own, while the DSL squads out-muscled their competition.

For the second night in a row, the PawSox were shut out by the Chiefs. The Chiefs seem to have the Paw Sox number as of late, winning their eighth game in a row against Pawtucket. Keith Couch took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks in just three innings of work. Edwin Escobar followed Couch with three scoreless innings of relief, walking three and striking out four. Allen Craig had a single to extend his hitting streak to five games.

Portland only mustered three hits on the evening as they lost for the ninth time in their last eleven contests. Danny Rosenbaum fell to 0-4, as he allowed four runs on four hits and five walks in 4 2/3 innings. Heri Quevedo allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in two innings of relief. Madison Younginer added 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Daniel McGrath tossed the first five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks, striking out four. German Taveras took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on one hits and a walk in three innings of relief.
Salem got on the board first in the third inning, receiving an RBI single from Mauricio Dubon. In the fourth, the Red Sox took a 3-0 lead on a Yolian Cerse RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Jordan Betts. The Red Sox would be silenced after that, collecting just one hit the rest of the game.

Greenville Drive 7, Lexington Legends (KC) 5 (Game One)
In game one of a doubleheader, Greenville used a seventh inning rally to topple the Legends. Jalen Beeks received the start, tossing the first 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks, striking out four. Jake Drehoff picked up the win, hurling 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
In the third, Greenville took a 1-0 lead on a Rafael Devers RBI single. In the fourth, with the game tied 1-1, Joseph Monge's RBI single gave the Drive a temporary 2-1 advantage. The Legends would immediately tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. In the sixth, Monge laced another RBI single, plating two, to give the Drive a 4-2 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Lexington plated three to pull ahead 5-4. In the seventh, Yoan Moancada led off with a walk and proceeded to steal second and third. After a Devers walk, Nick Longhi smashed a clutch three run home run to put the Drive back on top, 7-5. Danny Mars led the Greenville offense with a 3 for 3 evening, including a double and two runs scored. Mars is now hitting .352/.403/.427 since the All-Star break.

Greenville Drive 11, Lexington Legends (KC) 4 (Game Two)
Game two saw the Drive's offense continue to chug along nicely, as they used a seven run second inning to take both games of the doubleheader. Jeffry Fernandez pitched the first four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks. Jamie Callahan picked up the victory, tossing three scoreless innings of relief, striking out three.
Michael Chavis hit a grand slam in the second inning for his only hit of the game. Mike Meyers was 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Greenville offense.

Connecticut Tigers (DET) 7, Lowell Spinners 1
Lowell couldn't cash in with runners in scoring position, going just 2 for 7, leaving nine men on base in the loss. Javier Rodriguez fell to 0-4, allowing five runs on three hits and six walks in just 3 1/3 innings of work. Daniel Gonzalez pitched the remaining 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, punching out six. The Spinners lone run of the game came in the fifth on a Jeremy Rivera RBI single. Andrew Benintendi was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. The 2015 first round pick has raised his average 36 points in the last nine games.

GCL Twins 5, GCL Red Sox 3 (Game One)
In game one of yet another doubleheader for the Red Sox, a late inning rally by the Twins ended up making the difference. Anderson Espinoza (pictured, above) continued to dazzle, hurling four scoreless innings, allowing just one a hit and a walk while striking out five. The 17-year-old right-hander now holds a tidy 0.96 ERA in seven starts for the GCL Sox. Carlos Caceres took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks in three innings of relief. Devon Fisher was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Luis Alejandro Basabe was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored from the top of the order.

GCL Red Sox 2, GCL Twins 0 (Game Two)
Roniel Raudes was outstanding as he picked up his first victory as a member of the GCL Sox. Raudes tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, striking out two. Brad Stone added 1 1/3 innings of relief, allowing three hits and three walks, striking out two. Rafael Oliveras picked up the save, collecting the last two outs of the game. Rolandi Baldwin led the Red Sox offense, going 2 for 3 with a solo home run.

Eduardo Bazardo received the start, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks, striking out five in three innings of work. Roberto Medina picked up the victory, hurling two innings of relief, allowing four unearned runs on four hits and two walks. Nicolo Clemente picked up the save, recording the final out of the game. Marino Campana was 2 for 6 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI to lead the Red Sox offense. Six of the nine members of the Red Sox lineup had two hits.

DSL Red Sox2 10, DSL Pirates 4
Gary Calvo was fantastic in his five innings of work, allowing just two walks while striking out six, on the way to his first professional victory. Juan Barriento led the offense with a 3 for 5 game, smacking a solo home run and collecting two RBI. Like their other DSL counterparts, six of the nine members in the starting lineup recorded at least two hits.

Player of the Night: Anderson Espinoza, who tossed four shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk, striking out five in the GCL Red Sox 5-3 loss to the GCL Twins. The 17-year-old right-hander has a 1.05 ERA in 11 starts between the GCL Sox and the DSL Sox, striking out 43 in 43 innings of work.
